I love that you guys are doing this!! I personally would love and 2nd half full of spoiler conversations! And both of you picking your favorite scene and why. Can't wait for more episodes!
I won't lie, the orginal Danish film really affected me negatively on a personal level. The gaslighting and boundary crossing was so intense (having experienced that in my own life), it hurt. So much so that I probably will not see this remake even though I know there are differences in the third act. I can not tell you both how much I appreciate you addressing this film. On a personal level, thank you.💗
This episode was WAY better than last week! It feels way more cohesive - THANK YOU! Jono’s audio is also better, but there’s still a little tinny-ness going on. I’m guessing he’s using the mic on his headphones? Thanks for the review! Spooky Season is upon us and you two are really making me want to get my butt back in a cinema seat ❤❤❤
@@dotunderscore Not overly critical at all! We love productive feedback. As you said, we take it very seriously and we're going to continue to improve this channel. It may not be as good as the regular show given the different recording locations and the problems that ultimately come with that, but we'll still shoot for the stars!
i loved the "watch movies at the theater!" -- perfect!! 💯🙌 support films at the theaters! I'd love a non-spoiler section to start still, then a spoiler & deeper review section, not even necessarily as director / therapist perspectives specifically, but just simply as Alan & Jono perspectives as regular people
Four minutes in, and I can tell you guys took all of the feedback from the first video to heart. You guys are great! Keep up the good work ❤. End edit: I love the questions to keep in mind while watching! This review definitely made me want to go see the movie even more than I already did. Excellent work, Jono and Alan!
Really enjoying this channel!! Personally, I think the main thing i want to hear is the film side of things here, so naturally I'm curious to hear what Alan has to say. I like that the main CT channel focus on the therapy side, and as nice balance to that, and to differentiate it more, i like that this channel focus on the cinema, and on more recent cinema too! This episode nailed the Alan-Jono balance for me. Glad to hear Alan talk about movies from his perspective and reach past his imposter syndrome! I also liked the therapy touch points at the end quickly taking about triggers, what you can learn and what you can think about on your own. Really great episode!
I am so happy that you guys made this channel ❤ I also really liked the incorporation of the graphic into the video when discussing boundaries. The visual addition was a nice touch!
I would have loved it if you had mentioned that the movie is an American version of a Danish movie of the same name! I have seen so many great European movies being remade with American actors and in English language - which I get, it brings a larger audience to the movie. But please mention the original movie 🙌❤️ Please watch the Danish/original version! It might he a 10/10 😉
I am SO glad you guys reviewed this! I want to see it so badly. I, too, was expecting a Split-esque performance from McAvoy. And I love the breakdown of the directing style and how it was integral to making this movie work. We don’t deserve you guys! Thank you :)
I'm loving this new channel! The improvement just from your first episode to your second is astonoshing, and the brilliant insights from both of you are why I watch every episode on both your channels, even for movies I may never see.
Loved the dynamics of this week’s video more than the last one (big props to changing Alan and Jono’s seating positions). I’d prefer if there was no mention of when to expect what in which part of the movie (“There’s hardly any violence until the 3rd act…” 🙈). Other than that, looking forward to the next episode. ❤️
Mr. Tumnus! I loved him in Narnia. I did feel very threatened, though, as soon as he started playing the Aulos to lull Lucy to sleep. Something lurking behind the eyes. Sounds like I'll have to take a trip to the theater 😀

I absolutely LOVED this episode!! 🥰 This was amazing! Exactly what I’d want from a review! 🥰 I just wish there had been proper subtitles as it’s hard for me to pay attention and hear what is being said without them 🙈 Jono’s sound seems better, but I do wish it could be even closer to the quality on Alan’s mic. But all in all it was great! I could genuinely keep watching you guys talk about movies and stuffs forever! 😎 AND Watch movies at the theater!! 🎬💜
I love how you review the film and specifically add in who it is and isn't for and questions to ask. My husband an I love doing that after watching films so this will definitely be put to use for us :)
I remember James Mcavoy from Attonent and since then I love most of the movies he has been In. Everytime are getting better and better. I'm so glad I rooted for him ❤🎉
Just an fyi from someone who has seen both this one and the original Danish film, the remake isn’t nearly as disturbing as the original. So, if that’s what you’re looking for, definitely give it a try! It’s on Shudder 😊
Speak No Evil was the perfect title for the film! You could say it's called that because of the boy but I think it's more so from everyone never speaking up, there were so many times before they showed their true colors that they wanted to say something, like the scene with the meat but didn't because they were too concerned to offend, didn't want to come off as rude but eventually you have to. His line "you let us" was actually spot on, because it's true they honestly did. Not saying they deserved anything that was happening to them but they should have spoken up way sooner. I also loved that James' accent was kind of all over the place, sometimes it sounded English but then Scottish, then other times I'm not even sure and I do think it was intentional, like we're not really supposed to know where he's from. I loved it! Please in the future do an actual Cinema Therapy on it to take an even deeper dive into it!
you should have prefaced your comment with a "spoiler included" since Alan and Jono specifically didn't include the response, "you let us" in their vid
Its so cool you guys have a movie review channel too! As an aspiring filmmaker, I loved the simplicity of the film and how well it subtly expresses the horror theme of social pressure and being unable to say no until it's too late. That being said, i went to watch this movie for Mackenzie Davis and left feeling amazed by the whole cast! The children actors are no joke imo. Esp the mute child Ant. If there was a character I was rooting for the most it was definitely him. Anyway, really liking the structure of the video too. Its very well edited! Subbed! Excited to hear more movie reviews!
Mr Tumnus was my first James McAvoy character also. ❤️ I will not be seeing this film because I hate feeling uncomfortable; I knew I wasn’t going to see it but I appreciate the review confirming that for me! 😄
Had no clue this was a remake. I'm really looking forward to this movie and James McAvoy's performance. After seeing him in Split and the masterful performance in Glass, I'm officially a lifelong fan.
James McAvoy always delivers in anything he does! I've never seen a bad performance from him, even if the film isn't great he always is! You should check out The Last King Of Scotland, he is so good in that!
I went in theater knowing James McAvoy gave all of himself to this character and it shows. I felt the awkwardness of the situation from the beginning. I'm an introvert and This was very horror from the first scenes. I was uncomfortable throughout the entire movie, but at the end was so relieved (go child!).
The tension in this movie is great. The way it talks about humans needs to be polite. James McAvoy is so good he got saying I'm never vacationing with him
I like this video more than last week the Alan-Jono balance was better for this format, I really like that you clarify very well who this movie is or is not for
Something very helpful for me would be if, maybe at the end, you warned about spoilers so people could switch it off at that time, but then we could hear more specifics about pertinent parts of the movie that might be upsetting or triggering. For me, that is any ANIMALS that are harmed.
I watched this review first, saw the movie, then watched this again. Loved the movie even though it's not my first choice for films, but I had my husband with me for safety (I'm a wuss!). At the end we talked about how the boy and "mother" survived similar to the reavers in Firefly. Loved hating on the dad, and how it all played out. Definitely glad I watched it, and seeing this review helped me decide. Thank you!
Okay, upcoming underground cult classic for you to review: HUNDREDS OF BEAVERS! This is a black and white silent film made on a nothing budget that came out in 2022. One of the funniest movies I've seen in the past 10 years, and I thought the film making aspect of it would give Allen space and material to really shine and have lots to talk about
Scoot is an incredible actor. For anyone that needs proof, I highly encourage seeking out AMC's Halt and Catch Fire (also features Lee Pace who is absolutely fantastic)
Please do a review/comparison to the original! That version bothered me to my core and I feel the change to the ending in the American remake takes away from the overall message
Thank you for including a trigger warning. I was sitting next to a friend watching just the trailer of this film and it triggered the hell out of her due to a past relationship.
There is also a French film "Harry, He's Here to Help" "Harry, un ami qui vous veut du bien" (original title) 2000/01 and it's the same theme (story ?) I woudn't watch it again, not because of the quality of the film, but because I was really scared. So, this one ? Thanks, but no thanks 🙂🙃
Just saw this last night, and between this and Split, I can’t imagine any movie where James McAvoy just gets to show up and go off for two hours being bad.
Creators and reviewers in a positive environment huh? I love the direction this channel is headed. However, if there's one thing that I think this channel can do more to improve, I think it would be selling the movie and why someone should go see it. Granted, I think trailers do that already. I think trailers should stand by themselves and the potential audience are drawn to it. But I think this channel could be like a "Second Wind" for the undecided viewers who don't know whether or not they should watch movies in theaters or if they should wait for the digital stream release. I liked the review and what it is about from a psychological perspective. I looked the trigger warning and how it can be therapeutic. What i liked most in this episode was no badly edited swearing- If you're going to edit, but we know what's being said anyway, it makes the edit pointless, and i switch the show off. You don't seem to want to offend people unless it's about swearing, and this whole channel would be an excellent therapy tool until there is unprofessional swearing that takes away from the lesson being taught. Then it won't work to teach groups. Shame, Good lessons are getting missed that way.
So, is this like Get Out for white people?? Of course having said that, I’m not sure that Get Out WASN’T for white people!! Scoot “the guy you cast when Skeet (the guy you cast when Johnny Depp is Unavailable) Ulrich is unavailable” McNairy is proving himself to be a pretty great actor. This was a fun review and a glowing one of a movie that I am just NOT going to go see. Probably. I really do like so much of the cast. McKenzie Davis is always good. Tully- Diablo Cody’s (spoiler???) unique take on Fight Club might fit into that heading. McKenzie Davis was excellent in that as well. Ready or Not- I’m not positive it has much rewatch value so I’m not sure it quite fits there but I have to say I enjoyed that MUCH more than I thought I would. I do not follow horror flicks but I read an interview with the costume designer and was deeply intrigued. Get Out I HAD to rewatch because I didn’t all the way “get it it the first time”. Knives Out was great and I loved it but I figured out who the murderer was as soon as they came on screen. My BF who had seen it with his mom was shocked and impressed that I figured it out. But most impressively for me- kept it completely under his hat that I was right.
