Slugs the size of sheep! 😂 I feel your pain. The thunder storms are due to reach us in the Scottish Highlands this afternoon - hoping my carrot seeds don't get washed away!
Lovely video, thank you! I don't know how you find the hours in the day...do you actually sleep ever? 😆 Your garden has such a great vibe, it looks like the kind of place a curious person could lose a whole day wandering! I harvested the elephant garlic scapes yesterday and made pesto, not especially adventurous, but so so delicious! Have a good week! 😊
Beautiful Stephanie. I too love Runner Beans but some of mine have been pulled out by a rodent. I've got a second lot growing now. Every night my plot is attacked by some four legged beastie! Little holes everywhere, including molehills. It's been fun this year, not to mention the slugs. Ah well....the joys of gardening!!
That could be a vole, they seem to have a bit of a thing for beans. There are lots of owls here which seems to help with our vole population, but they do get into the polytunnel & the owls can't get them there
What a year! The weather, the slugs and snails- gah! Glad to see you’re still smiling Steph! Thanks for a lovely video - your garden is so interesting and beautiful 😊
Thank you Sally-Ann. It's certainly been a slug year so far. It isn't as bad as it was here last summer, I am hoping that is due to more of a balance between predator and prey, but there is still a lot of summer to go, and it continues to be damp....
Love the abundance of gardens in spring and summer. We are heading into autumn here so everything is slowing down. Will enjoy watching your amazing garden throughout the growing season!! Thanks Stephanie
Hi Stephanie, I love watching your videos. You mention rodents. Do you have problems with rabbits? I live in a rural area too and have a big problem with them. The little blighters are everywhere! I've surrounded each of my raised beds with anti rabbit wire mesh - like chicken wire but smaller holes - but it makes it difficult to get into the bed to weed. Do you have any suggestions for someone on a budget? I would love to put a fence around my plot like Huw Richards has done on his self sufficiency garden, but it's too costly to do that.
I don't have rabbits here, thankfully, and I hope they don't discover the garden! I've not seen Huw's rabbit fencing but for sure large scale fencing would be unaffordable for many people (his is a business so fair enough). Cloches covered with netting can help to deter rabbits. It won't keep out a really determined bunny but can encourage them to hop off elsewhere.
Thank you Stephanie - inspiring as ever. I’m interested to hear that you’re still harvesting purple sprouting broccoli at the end of May. Mine had finished in early May despite using a late variety. Do you have any tips for keeping it going a bit longer?
This went in late, after the first lot was destroyed by slugs. I bought the plants in as it was by then too late to sow. That is why they are cropping so late
It's an azalea. There are five or six here, all beautiful vibrant colours. I can't take credit for them because they were planted by the lady who lived here (not the people I bought from, the one before them). She had a great taste in flowering plants. I think she also planted the apple and cherry trees in the orchard.

My carrot seedlings were mostly eaten by slugs - I hope yours survive the wet weather
Great video, Stephanie!
Thank you

Thank you, that is such a lovely way of describing my garden. I love garlic scape pesto, yum.
Greetings from Somerset!
Whereabouts? I moved here from Bruton, where I'd lived for 20 years

Thank you so much.
The only way I can get marigolds past the slugs is to grow them in hanging baskets near the tomatoes, it works really well
What a great idea, shall try a basket in the polytunnel
You're so relaxing to listen to. 😊
Thank you
Wow that is a lot of planting ahead I think you doing a great job 😊
Thank you so much, very kind of you
This was incredibly helpful in several ways! Thanks so much for sharing your experiences and sensible wisdom ❤
Thank you Kimberley
The garden is looking lush and beautiful!
Thank you

I see - thank you.
What type of tree is your beautiful tree with the pink leaves at around 9.45 in the video?
Yes I would like to know too. It’s lovely!
