I got to meet Jamie Lee Curtis on the set of "True Lies" in 1994.
I remember how kind she was and patient with us kids despite the fact she was in the middle of filming.
I gave her a small leather and porcelain beaded bracelet I had made. She said her daughter would be jealous and probably try to steal it, :D
She's truly an amazing person, and I feel honored to have met her and I'm very glad that she has gotten even stronger.

There's a saying about training that goes:

Easier said than done, but in the end it comes to that

I'm watching this while under the influence of Weed and wine. I'm a big pot-head/wineo
When Jamie started talking about recovery at the beginning.
I realized I spent these last 5 years since high school ended. Just messing around and having fun. When the LaBeouf episode dropped I had just lost my grandmother. Was going through an ounce of weed every 2 weeks, for about 6 months. I've slowed down a bit on my drinking / smoking
Been wanting to quit, and go to post-secondary schooling. I know the brain fog is going to be a Bit*h. Thanks for uploading this episode and also the LaBeouf episode. It means a lot, that the kid from Transformers, and Lori from Halloween. Have struggles just like me.

You watch interviews with actors so im guessing you like movies. There's a thing about addiction and movie characters. Every hero has a sad story that could justify his villian arc. But he chose to be a hero despite that.

It is good now and then to slow down/go on hiatus. I have been partaking of edibles since 2018 since I lost a family member. I have two gummies left myself and after those are gone, I am going on an indefinite hiatus. The brain fog will not be that bad, and will clear very quickly, 24-48 hours. Been on a 9 month hiatus before and you will be better off for it. You will be good.... 💯

The transparency she displays, without shame, is amazing to watch. We all are addicts to something, but whether we acknowledge it or not, is up to us. Podcasts like this make us ask that question to ourselves of 'are you ready to do something about it?'. Thank you for conversations like this and the many you have done before that pose this reflection.

I’m about to get to make chili for dinner w/ groceries my son was willing to get me from the grocery on his lunch break and I get to go to bed alone tonight in my 1 bedroom apt. that my family helps me afford. My first inclination is to ‘use the negative’ when recounting my day because I’m depressed & I hurt, physically & mentally, but the truth of the matter is, if I just look past my first feeling, I am blessed beyond measure. 18:30 this hits heard. My brother died from a heroine overdose in 2009. At the time, we didn’t allow anyone but close family to come to the funeral. I ran into a few of his “friends” at a dunkin in town, they were obviously strung out, and they kept telling me how wonderful my brother was and how much they’re gonna miss him and how sorry they were and I couldn’t help but sit there and feel like… they were complicit. They enabled him. His blood is on their hands.

It’s so much easier not worrying about how much I’m drinking, should I drive or get a ride, did I say something stupid…… I wish I had stopped years ago. I have no desire to go out that way. Every time I see you in a movie or interview I feel your energy . You always give me a charge. Jon you could not have been more gracious. Re: therapy being too expensive: I just finished an 8 week online video therapy program through Kaiser via Covered California (Obama-care) that was FREE because it was all done online. So there are totally affordable therapy options out there if you're willing to do the work. The main issue is that most people, in recovery or not, don't realize that their mental health is mostly determined by the work they're personally able to do outside of meetings and therapy sessions. Blessings to all.

They're both amazing in The Bear, and JLC is such an honest upfront actress. Also, Jon's a good interviewer too, really listens to his guests...

Ms. Curtis is an interesting person for sure and thankfully as someone being interviewed, she knows how to talk. Is there anything worse than people who agree to an interview and then can't string two sentences together. LOL It's refreshing to see her values and priorities are where they are. I wish I had known that most of the interview was going to be about her addiction challenges if only so I could have been in the right mind set to receive them. That being said, what Ms. Curtis talked about was important and I'm sure there were listeners who found strength and resolve because of it.
I couldn't help but feel one fly in the ointment for lack of a better way of putting it. I wonder if Ms. Curtis conducts herself all the time in the manner in which she gave this interview. Specifically the high energy, the elevated drama (again for lack of a better word) in her demeanor.
I must admit, I found it a bit off putting. All the while reprimanding myself because WHAT she was saying I totally agreed with. It was just so much energy coming at me.
I worry that her husband (and perhaps other close family and friends) might over time find it just too much.
She definitely has that born again focus that, while being on point, can also alienate people because it's just too much too often. I'd hate to see that happen because she's obviously a caring person who's simply trying to do the right thing for herself and those people/children facing incredibly difficult challenges.
Oh, I read other people's comments and some mentioned they didn't like the editing out of the cursing. I very much appreciated it. Do I curse. Of course. It's not about that. You have every right to edit out cursing since it is considered a vulgarism and there's nothing wrong with it. I'd just as soon not hear it. Even though I knew WHAT curses she was probably saying, it was nice not to actually have to hear them. Just because a curse is "real" and "authentic" doesn't make it wrong to edit them out either. Frankly, it made it easier to focus on the content of what she was talking about and not get that momentary curse word in my brain. Do I think any the worse of Ms. Curtis for cursing? No. Like I said, I curse too. I suspect I don't curse as freely as Ms. Curtis does, but so what? I still very much appreciated your editing them out. It just kept the interview focused on the subject at hand.
