Aesthetically it does not match with the rest of the car. Why would anyone integrate modern screen into classy 1990` interior? Does not make stylistic sense.

Hi John, I have a 1998 XK convertible (56 miles) and really appreciate your precious tips, but I think that you are wrong this time. Your device completely destroys the atmosphere of the classic wooden interior. I also wanted to upgrade connectivity of my car, and found a, in my view, much better solution, which is a Pioneer device which fits in the standard DIN radio slot and which unfolds a screen that is about as big as yours, incl. SatNav, camera connection, Bluetooth and all of the other bells and whistles. I did it about 6 years ago, cost me about EUR 1500 inkl. professional Installation, and serves me really well. The device looks a bit more chunky than the curved original (also because it is shiny black and not grey) , but I think it's much better than your solution from an optical point of view. And, last but not least, I intend to register the vehicle as an oldtimer in 2028, and I am sure the strict Austrian authorities would not fancy this prominent screen. Some of my friends got refusals for much lesser reasons.

Re my comment below: the Pioneer device I bought in June 2017 is the NAVEGATE78BT 1 DIN. Original price was EUR 779 plus about EUR 350 for installation.

This makes classics much more user friendly. I mounted my rear view camera to my number plate frame so as not to drill into the Jag. I did drill a hole inside the license plate light housing to run the wire. Very clean install. And the camera stays clean.

I love your content but this time I think that a wrong way to go. It simply does not look appropriate. XK8 is wood and leather all over for a reason and a screen like that one looks odd.

  • @stevebass3992

    A nice neat install John

  • @garymorris801

Mate appreciate the work but for me it looks out of place

  • @UdoIBress

Well done, as always, the work of an engineer. It's good that I had a look at how the panel is removed. I hope that I don't have too many problems with my project. I will also do it in such a way that it can be removed later. I have to cut up a used middle panel. The carpuride should go in there. But that takes time. All parts are not still there.I congratulate you on this brilliant work and thank you for showing the video. Greetings, Udo.

  • @jagv12m

Nicely done I’m going to do the exact setup

  • @ChrisMeakin-jx7kg

Dave, you have done it again!! Well done mate. As I love a good gadget I will follow your design, and think the unit looks good in your car. As in all things putting in a unit like this is a personal choice. Will send photos once project complete.

  • @buffalobillgary1

I can’t thank you enough for this idea. I finalised my install today to hide all the wiring. It’s the most applicable update for such a wonderful classic car.

  • @johnpalmer2969

Impressive, very neat - well done 👍

  • @moodiblues2

Well done! If I were a bit more handy and less lazy, I might have tried your method. Still may.

  • @Tony4176

    Look well
