Thank you so much- just had new boiler installed, after our old faithful Glow Worm was costing so much to run in difficult times.
The engineer told me if was a breeze to set up- but any technology in your late sixties is difficult to understand. You explained it so well, and we now mainly use the boiler in manual mode.
The instructions were awful- but your video explained everything in plain English- well done, it is so much appreciated !!

Thank you Mark. Even after reading the instruction booklet I could not figure how to set up the T4m. Your video was so informative and help full I could not have programmed the unit without it.

    Hi Mark
My previous Honeywell thermostat died suddenly and your videos were really useful in deciding which replacement to buy and get installed and programmed in record time. Many thanks. Much appreciated!

Thanks..will watch again when I have calmed down. My installer didn’t really have a clue how to operate this……and it is NOT intuitive at all..told me heating companies ‘have spent millions’ making sure these thermostats are easy for the techno phobe older generation. All I can say is that they wasted their money! So much easier when my controls were a manual dial, and not digital …..pushing one button, then another…..ticks etc etc

Good video but there’s lots more you could cover. There is both optimum start, which I use, and delayed start, as well as optimum stop. These need to be selected in the installation menu. Also, these stats don’t work like conventional mechanical thermostats where the heating is run continuously until the set temperature as reached with the boiler cycling the burner on and off as flow temperature set on the boiler stat rises and falls. The T4 series runs the heating for quite a long period from initial start when the room is cold but, as the room temp rises closer to set point, from about 1.5C below, the T4 will cycle the heating on and off quite frequently. It can be a bit puzzling to see the room temperature at say, 17.5C but the heating switched off when the set point is 19C. It uses latent heat coming off the radiators with an occasional boost of hot water from the boiler to eventually get the room to set point but it doesn’t do it in the conventional way. The saving on gas is noticeable - my first CM927 which the T4 replaced paid for itself in a year with lower bills. Optimum start uses artificial intelligence to work out in the first few weeks of use how long the heating system takes to warm the room to set point and adjusts on time to suit - it may start an hour earlier than the set time on a very cold winter morning but only 5 or 10 minutes early in milder weather. Optimum stop will stop heating earlier than set if the stat calculates the room will remain at set point until the desired final off time off the day. I use 17C overnight so the house doesn’t cool too much and take too long to heat up again next morning.

Really useful, gave details such as overriding a programme for specified number of hours and holiday/away settings etc which were simply not mentioned in Honeywell's own manual. Likewise how to 'unhide' options like the Optimisation settings which are useful but not on the menu as received. Well done Mark!

Hi. I just bought and installed a T4R. For the moment, I am keeping it on Manual on a low temperature 15C as no one is leaving in the house. The temperature has settled since at this low temperature so now the ambient temperature is the same as the manually set temperature on the thermostat. So now comes the tricky part. It seems like the default heating behavior of the thermostat is somehow to preserve this temperature by briefly turning ON/OFF the heating (ON for 1-2 minutes and OFF for 5 minutes). Now this for me is pretty much a waste of gas as the house has underfloor heating and turning the heating ON for just 1-2 minutes is pretty much useless as the water in the system cannot be heated that fast. I looked over the "Additional Parameteres" in this video and the ones that make some sense are the 2 CR (heating cycles per hours) + 3 OT (Minimum ON time) although these are not great either. The thermostat I was familiar with was working on a very basic principle: you set the temperature, turns ON the heating until it reaches 0.2 - 0.5 degrees above the set temperature, turns OFF the heating and then waits for the ambient temperature to drop by 0.2 - 0.5 below the set temperature and the heating cycle resumes.
Is there a way to set this thermostat to work on the same principle?
It is worth mentioning that the house only has the gas boiler and heat distribuitors on each floor. There is no automation yet installed to control the heating on each room yet.

Great video - super helpful. Thanks very much
However I have a question please on the optimisation option on the 'special menu' - how does the optimisation option work please? I understand that the thermostat will assess the current room temperature and the next time/target temperature and then switch the boiler on/off before that target time in order for the temperature to hit the target at that time?
If that's the case then you have say 7-9am at target temp of 21 degrees but then you leave the house for work at 9am so you want the target temp to fall to say 10 degrees at 9am......how does the thermostat decide on priorities? Does it turn the boiler off at say 8:30 so that the room cools down to 10 degrees at 9am or does it prioritise the 21 degree temp until 9am the turn off to try to get the temperature down to 10 degrees? If it does turn the boiler off before 9am but you definitely want the room to stay at 21 degrees until 9am how do you get round this issue (other than turning off the optimisation option!)
I may have opened a can of worms here so you may ignore the question but I'm intrigued as I want to use this feature as I plan my programming
Many thanks again for staying up late to make this video!
    Mark

Thank you for a really useful video that I have saved in my favourites as I am sure to need it again. The thermostat is poorly designed and over complicated. Like most things that are improved - they never really are. Even my heating engineer found it diffficult. God help anyone who doesn't have you tube as the instruction book is rubbish and doesn't even have the parameters included. I had to google just how to take it back to factory settings.

Very useful but why does night setting not allow the off time to be changed from 6.30am. It overrides the on temperature we want for 6am in the morning. I see it jumped over the night of set time, which it did for me. We will have to manually override every morning.

    • @zainali-lm4zr
      @zainali-lm4zr 3 ปีที่แล้ว

I know what you mean, the last part end time, will always be the first part start time, so for example your first part begins at 7am. Then the final part is restricted to 7am, you can't set the last part (being night time) as let's say 11pm - 2am which is kinda annoying, it can only be 11pm to 7am unless someone manually turns it off

These things are such a hassle. I have the T4 Pro which seems to have '90s tech. I can't believe they'd choose such an obtuse thing as their default. They must have gotten a discount. I wish they'd let me pick something better. I set it for 8am wakeup, and the heat starts blazing at 630. Meanwhile I have "away" at 10, yet for some reason it drops the temp in between the two. I have always wanted a programmable thermostat, but I thought it would make sense and not be such a hassle. Now I just turned the programming off and do it manually like it's 1980. I am filled with rage and no one to rage at.

Hi there, Your video showed fitting the thermostat sender whilst mentioning you was adding the wires to the right side from the boiler later. My boiler is downstairs and the thermostat is upstairs on the landing which is silly as it never gets hot enough up there to activate the thermostat whilst downstairs is like an oven. So I was wanting the sender upstairs and the receiver controller downstairs. So can the sender NOT have the wires from the boiler to the right side i.e. no boiler directly connected. many thanks

hello, I bought honeywell, I watched your video on the internet, I did the same, but the house doesn't turn on even though it's cold, I wonder how many degrees it kicks in.

Ok my husband is OLD school and driving me nuts with this thermostat (Honeywell T4 Pro). PLEASE tell me how to cancel all programing and just manually put the air on what we want during the day and change it at night if we desire with the +/- buttons?? We have been using it this way for over a year (new home)....and one day it just started setting at 83 degrees at night, even if we try to lower it...it stays at 83 at night (not good for living in Florida). Please help? We just want to manually set it to what we want. No set Temps at certain times. Thanks!😊
