Gotta be honest, Nicole Kidman I always love, Ethan Hawke is one of my all time favourite actors who can do no wrong, but I'm so impressed by the boy playing Amleth. He's brilliant and truly immersive, which is always the question with child actors. Haven't yet seen it but it almost looks like it was set in the style of a play (given the history of Amleth and then Hamlet) by the camera work and how it almost feels like the cast are speaking to the audience a lot of the time?

This is a pivotal scene to understanding the true motivations of the mother. Yes she may have ordered the King’s death, but was that not what he was asking for in this very scene? He wanted to die by the sword and she made that happen for him.

    • @rarelljohnson8309

@Caleb Conn I agree that she wasn’t doing him a favor, and it was in fact for her own self interest, but I definitely disagree that she was a loveless witch. Later, when she has the conversation with grown-up Amleth she is basically saying in this world, women especially, must do anything they can to survive. Let’s not forget that she was a slave and the raven king without a doubt most definitely raped her.

Y'know, rewatching these clips, it is really hard to take the Queen's claim that "the war raven king did not love his son and had only tolerated the queen" seriously, seemed more like she hold a grudge for him enslaving her and raping her (a well justified grudge to be fair), and tried to slander the old king in front of Amleth to shake his will to battle

Then how can you believe her claim that she was enslaved and rayped? Which she didnt actually say btw
The King treated her with respect from everything shown in the movie. And she was the 2nd most powerful person there..... I wouldnt consider that a "slave". Also slaves didnt become queens, they became concubines at best. She was probably from another noble family, and it was an arranged marriage at worst. She is a liar and is THE major villain of the movie

@@scythianking7315 that’s what I cannot understand about her “motive”. It is shown the King really did love her and his son, no sign of contempt or tolerance. I went in with high hopes because of The Lighthouse and the obvious non-superhero plot. Ironically, twas the plot that let me down, turning into a far more depressing Hamlet or Lion King. However, the berserker bits near the beginning were far more promising. Could've been a more interesting movie to see him transform from wolfman beast to a cold, calculating political opponent, more a la Count of Monte Cristo. Coulda. Shoulda. 7/10.
