- Prince Amleth (Alexander Skarsgård) abandons his quest to avenge his father and boards a vessel to the Orkney Islands with his lover, the Slavic sorceress Olga of the Birch Forest (Anya Taylor-Joy). During the voyage, Amleth discovers Olga is pregnant with twins. Remembering the Seeress's Maiden-King prophecy, Amleth concludes his children will never be safe as long as Fjölnir the Brotherless (Claes Bang) lives. Olga tearfully begs Amleth to stay, but the prince dives overboard and swims back to shore, vowing to protect his family.

The Northman is one of my favorite films of recent memory. Robert Eggers’ directing style, Anya Taylor Joy’s presence, and Alexander Skarsgård’s acting is some of the greatest I’ve seen out of a film made last year. And Eggers himself is also one of my new favorite film directors with his artistic vision.
Can’t wait to see his take on Nosferatu! ❤️
Not to mention the level of unapologetic appreciation for the past and the different customs of the era even things that may repulse modern viewers.
I'm glad Eggers picked actors that look like they belong in the time period.
"There's too many white peepoh in a movie about a time and place that had 99.9% white peepoh."

"okay can you cite a source for that?"
"yeah *pulls out dirty bong*"
@@user-yp7hq5yp1x I already know about this there's a reason why lots of Icelanders have Celtic ancestry
@@user-yp7hq5yp1x "multiracial" lmao. in middle age europe, that word means germanic, celtic, slavic i.e. european people. not african, arab, indian, chinese and filipino as netflix would have wanted
@@Mario-us7ds I had another comment, at least I think I did, citing the article and clarifying my point which is essentially yours as well. But since it's disappeared I'll just delete it to avoid confusion.
Anya is such a Powerhouse
Olga is most definitely a ride or die woman
Anya definitely went full VVitch here
Amleth The Barbarian.
Great film, too bad the dudebros just wanted an action movie
That's their fault. They marketed it as the next Gladiator.
@@jamesdrake3651 also but it’s Eggers lol

Unfortunately, the actor playing Amleth bellyflopped and drowned. You’re witnessing a stunt double at the end of the video. Tragically, it would have been his final scene in the film before shooting was over. He is survived by his four wives and 24 children.
Hahahah 24 children

Her bleached blonde hair ruined the movie.
It really is distracting and the only negative in the film. They paid such close attention to detail to make everything look realistic, raw and lived in, and true to the time period. Anya looks like a brunette with bleached hair, not just her roots, but her brows and her complexion are that of a brunette. It's jarring since women back then did not bleach their hair, so it takes me out of the story for a moment whenever the camera pans to her. Even her eyes are so dark, and while a blonde can have brown eyes, it just contributes to making her pale hair look out of place with her face. The same can be said for Nicole Kidman not having any gray hair, but that is not nearly as noticeable. Anya did a great job with her acting, but they should have cast someone who was, or could pass, for a natural blonde.
@@ad9899 Some girls do have flaxen white-hair, and didn't they have hair dye back then from vegetable-ash and lye compounds etc? It wasn't unheard of but usually more a thing in the Med countries of those times.
