To answer about clubs that are long gone now. Up until last year I had a set of snake eyes irons 😂
Let them go to a friend starting out and I got them in a car boot for 30 quid 3iron through to sand wedge.

Why dont you get a robot to replicate Ricks swing and do the testing so that every swing is the same and the underlying numbers would be a lot more accurate?

Bang on. No surprise with my golf spy. In my experience they like to discredit other reviewers to almost validate their own work. Stepping on the backs of others to climb the ladder. They started this years ago with attacking golf digest gold list. Good content is good content. And all good content is relevant. I've followed MGS for more the 10 years. Back when they were testing in a garage and sending emails... I'm new to Rick Shiels, maybe 2 years on other platforms. I've stopped following MGS because of this crap. Your content is fun, and relatable. Keep up the great work guys

Definitely agree, sometimes people just want to hear some light hearted options on something. Like if their buddy was telling them about it. Not everyone cares or wants to know about all the nitty gritty details.
Different strokes for different folks they say haha

Rick, you need to review older clubs in your new club reviews! Compare the stealth to the M3 or something. It would be interesting to see if the small “insignificant” improvements in clubs add up over time. Maybe the SIM 2 wasn’t better than the SIM, but maybe it’s better than the M1? I think people would love that

Your first birdie is just like a hole in one for a newish player, so well done to that guy, fantastic. I've been playing quite a few years and get birdies, alas still get too many bogeys! Never had a hole in one! However, last year I had and eagle on a par 4, so exciting, just like a hole in one for me. Only downside was, I never saw it go in, ridge in front of green. Love the show, there will always be naysayers, ignore them don't rise to their bait.

On Taylormade, what nobody is saying is that there's also a big incentive to switch from titanium to carbon faces: it's cheaper. If they can make the switch and get similar results, good for them, but this is also a clever long-term move to increase margins.

i was playing my Cobra SZ 440 from 2002 until last year, grabbed an R1 from a friend for $50 and was getting 30 more yds on average, i guess that old Cobra was just not the right club for me. What a feeling getting that kind of yardage, it felt illegal almost. Ive got a SIM MAX now and its slightly better then the R1 for me.
I still use my #5 White Hot putter from 2002 as well, that works!

The best comparison I can think of for people wanting the latest and greatest and willing to pay the money, is the same way 99% of football fans want the latest shirt that their team comes out with, they know it’s the same as last years, they know it’s expensive but it’s a staying relevant stigma… just my two cents… love the podcasts, keep up the great work fellas!!!

Agree with your points on MyGolfSpy but I will say I think it would be a good idea in the reviews to be clear on specifically how many shots you hit over how many days because on some reviews you say “I hit loads” but I think giving more context to the scope of your testing wouldn’t take much extra time in the review. Obviously you guys grind. Congrats on the 2M subs!

My golf spy comments to Rick reminds me of when Jeremy Clarkson used to get criticised when he gave a less enthusiastic review of a car. End of the day we buy a car based on affordability looks and how It drives after taking it out on a test drive. We have enough to think about standing over a golf ball that ball speed!! Keep it up Rick. Up the revolution

  • @markjpad
    @markjpad 2 ปีที่แล้ว

That was a spot on point Rick. It should work on your very first shot. If something is that revolutionary that will change someone's game, it has to work out of the box. The first time someone handed me the Odyssey two-ball I instantly started making more putts.

Mygolfspy seems to be arrogant and should not criticize other reviews when they don't know how you reviewed it. There is not one golf club that fits everyone. I'm 66 years old and don't have the flexibility I used to. They don't seem to review clubs for people with slow swing speeds. I don't subscribe to their channel anymore.
Rick, your channel has helped me understand how to improve my swing and it's also entertaining and makes me laugh. Keep up the good work and thanks for the great advice.
P.S. Golfspy owes you a apology!

One of the best podcasts I have watched. I love the way you defended your review. How could anyone presume you only took 5-10 drives, when the real total was probably in the region of 200. If they watched any of your previous reviews they should have concluded that you always take LOTS of test shots. Congrats and never pay much attention to BEGRUDGERS!

  • @jittboy1
    @jittboy1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I trust what you did. I have played for a long time including the LDA tours . The one thing is especially in America the calibration in some places you buy are slightly off on the good side lol. Testing drivers and hitting driver after driver isn’t how we play bodies cool down after a chip and a putt but they like you to pound shot after shot. I use cobra f9 and sometimes pxg driver the cobra isn’t the longest but very forgiving. I tested the stealth I lost ball speed. 1-2 mph. The new callaway rogue max I gained but your talking very minimal I swing at 127mph so the moi is going to be maxed out for me. I also believe people start thinking about distance instead of course conditions and start speeding up their swing while finding a groove. So all in all I can tell you I hit an older Nike vr as far as a pxg. Cudos to Rick I enjoy his videos!

Great podcast, laughed all the way home from work, just great banter with the 2 lads, great reply to the golf spy forum article, they obviously didn’t do their homework, surely they knew Rick gets fitted at all the big names and spends hours running numbers on new equipment. I hope the reply and come on the show to make amends. It really sounded like a replay from a forum who were promoting Taylornade. Keep the quality content coming lads 👍👍👍

Don't get the MyGolfSpy thing, I watch a couple reviewers that I enjoy including you, none of them have had MASSIVE difference between last years Sim2 and the Stealth. The thing it sounds like, it might be more forgiving on off hits, which helps the average golfer more. I just changed from an old 3 wood, got fitted into a Sim2, and it is much the same. That old 3 wood that I have used for well over a decade I can still hit the same distance as the new one, but I can reliably hit the Sim2 that distance even if the swing is slightly off, where as with my old one, I would lose 20-30 yards quickly on slightly off center hits, and the dispersion was massively smaller on the new one. The advantage of something new versus something a decade old, is mostly how easy it is to get your max out of it.

Maybe Rick Shiels only need 5 hits to know the deal rather then waste time and money like some other testers do.
You now have a new ad/test campaign/category(ies) utilizing the 5 hits thing. IE...the 5 hit club (or 5HC), the truth in 5 hits, 5 Hit Series, The 5 hit Test, 5 Times The Tester, 5 Rules for Testing,...you should get the drift and curb it to your desires/needs. (Just remember me and help a brother out if possible.)

Great Pod ! mix of everything , golf, lifestyle, beef , goals and ambitions, just one point when you discussed Carden earlier I think Rick was thinking about a different course, when recollecting lessons with Adrian Hill ; I believe Adrian was based at Portal , which rings true when you mention the 9 hole achademy and massive indoor putting green *which Portal has. Easy mistake to make as Portal and Carden arent too far apart , and I have been lucky to be a member of both and believe they are 2 of the best resorts in the North.. Keep up the good work and look forward to 180+ ball speed soon

Congats on the 2 million. Your review was in keeping with all the other ones I've seen. Same distance, slightly higher ball speed. The review at 2nd Swing pointed out that the stock shaft that Taylormade put in the driver was more whippy than other comparable shafts. That showed up in their data. The new Stealth driver showed slightly higher ball speed than the older driver but the dispersion was worse. I love MyGolfSpy but from what I saw they tested the Stealth on Taylormade's terms and I'm not sure they are judging it properly.

Ultimately it's the shaft that makes distance and speed... With a governed COR factor, virtually the only way for any golfer to get more distance is to get the right shaft on the club that matches the swing...

Congrats on the 2m subs Rick . With regards to clubs brand , haven’t seen a set of Top Flight Irons in years and TM dropped Adams a while back . Finally PXG , what can you say . Their sky high prices when they arrived into the market , resulted in TM, Callaway etc to say “ we are selling ourselves short here , we can up our prices too “ , now PGX have dropped their prices , leaving the ordinary golf fan paying more than ever for clubs , thanks PXG !

Rick, rise above (as I know you will) the ridiculous criticisms and keep up the honest truthful reviews and comments. We respect you for this.

Don't question your technique and process as we all know you are thorough but more importantly consistent hitting balls on the range and on the course in actual play. To compare your review to what they wish to hear is futile as all experiences are personal and an opinion. Your reviews are open, informative and thorough and just indicative to us the prospective buyer. anyone who believes the marketing rhubarb to base their purchase upon deserves all they get. As you say get properly fitted and take your time trying all brands, shafts and options possible and choose what gives you what you want. Too many people are seduced by the longest drive they can hit and believe that is the best club, as Rick confirms his current driver as chosen because scoring is about having a driver that is comfortable and hits fairways and suits you.
I wish people would start engaging the organ between their ears rather than just their ears and hear what they want and then wonder why it does not actually improve their game (a tad naive !).

Congratulations on 2 million subs!! I would really enjoy seeing you train to increase your ball/club speed. That’s my goal for 2022…Maybe you can do a collaboration with Martin Borgmeier😉

Ben Hogan Apex irons were the absolute best looking iron back in the day, nearly everyone longed to have them in your bags ❤️

Interesting chat regarding Taylormade vs Callaway. Had a question on it did Callaway move their embargo date up, find it weird that it was the exact same day as TM, when you can't actually get your hands on it until March

For this insident with GolfSpy, I think there is a need to do a back-story collace, behind the scenes, Rick Shiels testing the Stelth.

Congrats on the 2 million guys! So on the MSG post, I'm kind of thinking some wires are getting crossed. My guess is the 5-10 shot comment is in relation to the shots Rick hits in the studio on the quad to get the data. Even though I think most people understand you have hit much more than that, I can also see their point. When they do their most wanted testing they get loads of shots from different players to collect data. While their review currently was not that in this case, that is kind of their thing is gettingnloads of data. I follow both channels for information and actually like the different ways things are done.

Also for apple they make all their products play so well together that it makes sense to go all in on their family of products.

Play both a Callaway C4 and a Taylormade M2 like to swap occasionally, very little difference in both distance and forgiveness. £50 for C4
