That snake video of you cleaning out the cabinet was scary. Personally I don't like snakes or spiders, but what you encountered in that cabinet really got to me. I was raised on snakes here in Kentucky and have always been scared of them. My granddaddy kept black snakes in his barn. Didn't go in there.
Robert, I have been catching up on your Old Byrd Farm videos. You should be SO proud of what you're accomplishing. To see someone who honors the past, who believes in themselves to make a change is heartwarming and uplifting. Bless you in your efforts and thank you for all the time and effort you put into sharing your journey with us viewers!
You need some diatomaceous earth in and around your house. It kills all kinds of crawlers especially spideys. It draws moisture and dries them up within hours. 4 lbs is like $8 at Tractor Supply now.😊It beats spraying chemicals, especially since you have pets. You also have so much more to get done before you can button the house up. It's more of a problem while you have floors out. Gives you a chance to treat the ground though. Put some in the attic, too,if you want. You just have so many places for them to hide, old shoes,clothes,coats,etc.etc.lions and tigers and bears oh my...😅😳spiders!!!👀🕷🕷🕷🕸🕸loves you anyway!!!💞from Ky.
I don't blame you for wanting to leave if that's a brown recluse spider. My sister stepped on a brown recluse spider when she was only 9 and nearly died. She had issues with her health for years, and we're all surprised that she survived.
I got all the old black and white photos and I'm glad I got them and made 6 copies of each and it was great to see my grandma's only sister who died when she was 9 and grandma never talked about her but I'm glad I got them after my dad was gone in 2018
Years ago my husband and I visited Savannah and took a tour of the city. Our guide was late and our substitute was the owner of the company. She had personally known and partied with the characters in the book, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Best tour ever! You must visit.
Beautiful bed frame in the "creepy" room! It would make a great "flower bed" put outside with flowers planted as a "mattress". Build a box around the inside frame, fill with dirt and plant away!
I was just bitten on the leg by a brown recluse, which makes two times for me. The first time was about 20 years or so ago. They are very fast. I hope you got bug spray too.
I was bitten by a brown recluse in my friends 1936 mansion basement. It turned into cellulitis and was very painful. They had to cut the center of it out ! OUCH ! I would not be crawling around on that floor with open pant legs ! lol Wear long socks and tuck the pant legs into them.
Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil is my longtime favorite book & movie!!! I read the book & watched the movie multiple times. Visited Savannah several times over the past decade, also!
Your display room looks cozy. Great to hear the old clock whether that was the correct time or not. Old pictures are the best. I had to laugh when the OBF gave you a box that didn't open. You didn't specify it had to open too! And I guess 150 pounds of trash. Sure hope you find your gloves.
Just squash them, caught one trying to get into my bed after washing and drying the linens one night, thing saw me come into the room, was on a bed side table by the bed and it hopped on the bed and went in the pillow case. Shook it out, smashed it with a shoe when it tried to recluse itself. The stories say, different from what the original online stuff was about these spiders, is they often sleep in beds, but tend to bite when a person rolls over on them. Check your bedding especially after putting warm dried linens on it, they enjoy the warm stuff also, especially in old homes.
Yesss! When I first moved to Alabama (years ago), I rented an old house. Needless to say got bit on my arm near my elbow! It was not bad at first, but in a couple of weeks the area was swollen, painful, and the center had turned black. Having the dead tissue cut out was way worse than the bite!
Keep a spray bottle of 70% or higher alcohol. Spray spiders or other bugs, kills them. Also keep a small bottle of pure tea tree oil on the farm. Good for bites, stings small cuts, fungus, ring worm etc Great stuff!
I hate spiders! House is coming along. Take time and enjoy the treasures. How's Uncle Ken doing? Sure, I would enjoy seeing him soon.! Stay safe, Robert..
They generally don't want to be near you and will try to go away. But yes, they can go fast when they want. If you think you might have brown recluse spiders, you might want to spray around that room just for safe measure. I know your floor is open in the hallway, but still, that's some piece of mind that any that were in that room specifically will die or leave. Maybe wear long sleeves and definitely gloves and long pants.
Robert, I can not express how much I admire you in taking all this one form 4 yrs ago til now, and all that you should be so proud of that you have thus far accomplished. I agree that everything has to be gone thought to find the little bits and pieces of things tha6t are so important to your family. be interesting to read some of those letters between your grandparents form back in the 1950's🙂, a side of them you never knew, and now can have that chance. Amazing.
I’m absolutely with you on the spiders! Nothing is scarier than a spider! I’m usually dead set against poisons, but spider bombs are the exception. Shut the door, set off two spider bombs, leave it closed up, and come back two days later. You should be ok.🤗❤️🐝
I found a Brown Recluse spider in my mailbox one time. You can bet I threw all that mail and made sure the sider wasn't still on any of the mail before taking it back up again. I was lucky I didn't get bitten. I understand your hebbie-jeebies! Take care, Robert!
Nothing worse, than creepy crawlies sneaking up on you. Those old letters will be great to read. Every little bit, gets you closer to a clean out. Another great video, Robert. You always make me laugh, and start my day off smiling. We get Huntsman here, the size of a tea cup saucer. So grose. Have a great day.
I'm only at 9minutes and 40 sec. in watching, and a nervous wreck lol. Wondering where that spider is, and looking for it as your going through that old suitcase. Well back to the video now. lol
You did well at lest one seventy to two hundred pounds as it’s a lot of work as I am dealing with two estates at the same time 😮what a job !!! Thanks for sharing 😊😊😊
Chili on a pour down day. Very nice and cool that you found a silver platter. Still no Confederate treasure? You still provide motivation for me to keep on my cleaning and sorting projects I've been working on.
I have shared pictures of my grandparents' farm house in the fan group. My grandfather bought the farm with his first wife in 1922. He was divorced around 1930 or so and married my grandmother in 1938. By then he was 42. Anyway, they lived there till 1988, when it was sold. So the house was never abandoned, fortunately. My grandmother kept diaries starting in the mid 80s till the mid 2000s. There are entries from 1988 in which she says she went up in the attic and threw away a lot of letters and postcards, ahead of their move to the place my parents built for them. I find that very sad. But we still have tons anyway.
Yikes! I hate spiders to! Not so much when they're outside- but this year we had several large creepy wolfspiders in our house. Aaaahhh 😖 Stay safe Robert.
Nothing better than listening to falling rain. All those old letters you found are awesome like going right back to that time. Fun video except the spider😮😮😮
I understand accumulating a lot of stuff over the years, but how does a house get so trashed like that? Did someone use it as a dump site or was it vandalized? Just asking out of curiosity. I am enjoying the transformation you are making to the house and property. That's an amazingly huge project.
You always play great git-er-done music.---Are there family members interested in history as much as you & will also find your treasures of importance? I hope so, as some of my siblings are and some aren't.---Whenever you share your pet-peeves, or heeby-jeebies, I can only imagine how much better you make some folks feel about their own scariest things.
Robert, my guess for the trash bags weight is 170 lbs. And careful with the spiders. I bet THE OTHER ROBERT has some good advice to share on spiders and avoiding them.
Yikes! Gloves, my first thought. Now I have the creepy crawlies. Trash to the dump, 227lbs, but since we don't know what went in, total shot in the dark. 🕷👀👍👍
Sharon here...I'd guess 34lbs. Be very careful around any spider, but recluce are really troublesome. Get some spray or a bomb to set off and come back later. See you next video... 👍☺❤😮
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil is a favorite of mine. The movie is great as well. I live in northwestern Illinois. We have wolf spiders. Suckers are huge and hairy. Very scary!
Hi, it's been a minute since I watched. Infact you were removing a couple tables from the entrance. Believe me, it does look like you've made progress on the room.
Spiders creep me out too! Also look back on that video and see all the gnats/mosquitoes/poisonous flying things! flying out of all that paper. 🕸🕷🏃♀️➡️🏃♀️➡️🏃♀️➡️🏃♀️➡️🏃♀️➡️
There weren't any mosquitos or gnats or any poisonous critters flying out of the paper. They will not be in the paper or anything else in the room. What you are seeing looks like small moths and maybe some gnats attracted to the light. Totally harmless.
Much respect to you Robert. It's looking better & better. I like how you're saving the furniture as much as you can and just a suggestion, if you have murphy's oilorold english, wipe the furniture with that with a soft cloth.
Thanks for telling us about the book you're reading. I researched it after your video. I've started listening to the ebook, and I've watched the interview with the author. And a short of the movie. The Mercer Williams house is beautiful. Savannah sounds like a beautiful place.
Nice video midnight in the garden of good and evil is great book savannah is our fav place in the usa behind new orleans spiders are much bigger in costa rica where we are now monkeys too
maybe you should use bug spray before you go into a room to clean. 150-lbs for the 7 bags. great job Robert, yes there are things that just creep you out! my dad had a big pet spider! one time he got spooked, it was in an aquarium, he went and fed it to realize it was on the wrong side of the glass! but he carefully put it back on the inside!
Regardless of what people say, brown recluse typically aren't that dangerous. Most people probably wouldn't even know they have been bit. Only on rare cases like if people are in bad health, or if they are allergic, will a bite become dangerous. I know I've been bit amd looked nothing more than a mosquito bite. I love reading old letters and looking at old pictures. Spiders and snakes don't bother me but I'd be wary of the recluse. It would drive me nuts until I found it and got rid of it. Can always set off a bomb in there and close the door for a few days. Set the bomb on the wood box which was probably used as a little table. I have 2 beds similar to the one in that room. One was my granny's and grandpa's and the other was my great grandpa's. I love listening to the rain too.
I love old family pictures. I found pics from the late 1800s and 1900s of family on my mom's side of the family of aunts of my mother who were nuns at the church my family still belongs to and my great great grandparents. It's funny to see pictures of how Brookline village was back then with horse and buggies parked in front of stores
I think you should buy stock in trash bags. lol Be careful with that spider. I looked it up and it is not a spider to mess with. I am older than some of your mail but I enjoyed watching you look quickly through them. Take care Robert.
I got bit by one years ago. It was a small one, probably a juvenile, so the damage done wasn't real serious, but the scar is still there, 40 years later. For a long time, there was a big divot on that finger because some flesh died and fell away. It did hurt! And, where you see one, there will be more. They do love to hide in papers and anywhere that is undisturbed. Always wear gloves and don't leave the gloves laying around when you take them off. The spiders have been known to slip down inside where it's dark, waiting on unsuspecting fingers. A zip lock bag, tightly zipped up would be a good place to keep them after wearing them. And get good leather gloves, Robert. As we speak, I know I have some recluse spiders in my garage and out in the metal barn. I spray a lot with pure bleach and Miss Muffets Revenge!!
I love listening to the rain, and must’ve forgotten where I put my gloves…

the condition of the room..sure there are more spiders-that would be expected..wear gloves!!
I think you should buy stock in trash bags. lol Be careful with that spider. I looked it up and it is not a spider to mess with. I am older than some of your mail but I enjoyed watching you look quickly through them. Take care Robert.
95 lbs….i bet it’s the spirit touching you..if you believe
Be careful around that darn spider! You’re making progress. I’m guessing about 100 pounds of trash for the dump.
