Am I the only one who thinks this guy should do another in-depth step by step video on how to train a dog for bird retrieving? This is extremely helpful, don't get me wrong, but speaking for myself, I would like to duck hunt more, love dogs, and think that amazing things can happen when paired. If this guy does make an in-depth video, someone please let me know, I really want to train my buddies right
Another great video! I love that you put your sources and additional learning tools in your video description, not everyone does that and its really helpful :) Thank you for your hard work!!
Sweet! I happened to google Daryl Arktrom’s online dog trainer, and it’s been so fun teachingh my dog new tricks, I’m on video 3 now, pretty cool stuff.
I got mine at 8 months old. NO training was in a crate for the first 8 months of his life. Lots of work, lots of on leash work and obedience. He is a West highland white terrier mixed with shitzhu and Jack Russel. he is NOT the average "bird" dog, but he loves it. Awesome on land, Just started introducing him to water. took to it like a fish. As long as he/she is enjoy it then i dont see an age limit. Maybe have to spend more time on somethings. Hope this helps! :) what breed of dog?
Do you guys recommend force fetching? I was reading Milner's book and he is not in favor of it. I have a seven month old yellow male and want to make sure I'm training him properly.
I have a german shorthair pointer that is a little over 1 year. I tried to fetch with her, and she just runs off. How do i fix this? I really would like to duck hunt with her! need feedback asap. thanks...
Okay so we are in the midst of training our 4 month old retriever. This is actually common and easily fixable. Basically, if he is going after it and not bringing it to you, either back away from him once he gets the bumper in his mouth or turn and walk away. This makes the dog think your leaving him, and he REALLY wants to show you his prize. as always heavy praise and positive feedback. and check any bad tempers at the door. 2 seconds of lost temper can eradicate two good days of training. :) hope it helps
Milner's Retriever Training For The Duck Hunter has an entire chapter on force fetching...he was definitely in favor of it when that book was publihsed in 1997
Can someone tell me what the best way is to make my male listen better, he is very smart and has obedience down but I can't make him do the command I ask then.
I got my dog doing most of this in a day or so. my next thing is the part where they run out blow whistle and they stop then show him where to go from there that's great
very well done! imformative! i always heard maybe the black lab variety especially a blk female was possibly the smartest?may be just a wives tales;lol; i prefer a yellow myself
I don't think it matters what color they are. It's all in the time u put into training. I've got a black male and I couldn't be happier with him my day has yellow female she young but is coming on strong and a buddy has a silver/ chocolate female and she does what he wants her to do.
I had my dog with Jimmy for two months.. just picked her up and she is wonderful.. He is great!!

wow, that amazing
There a reason he keeps telling the dog to sit when he is sitting. Wouldn't it be better to utilize markers like good to mark the desired behavior.
SUPER REPETITIVE @4:40 WHY NOT MARK IT WITH LEAVE IT OR STAY JUST ONCE
