    I stayed in Croatia last year. I found it the most pleasant, clean, safe, polite and beautiful country I have been to so far.

    I am Mexican, and I did not have any bad experience in Croatia. I was in Zagreb and in the beach, yes, touristy places, but the people were great! And I can say it is a very safe place, and most of all, BEAUTIFUL!

      Nah some of us who tell you about flaws of certain areas are native Croats as well. I reccomend avoiding beaches near docks because the yacht owners (usually foreigners) dump their fecal tank at the ports often (even tho it's forbidden and they are supposed to do it 12 nautic miles of the coast but the port owners don't punish the behaviour and police is plain lazy outside of catching burglars, thieves or stopping fights).

    I am traveling to Croatia for 11 years now. I get here with my parent's car (of course with them) and we always go to Podgora. We just love that city! Every evening (after the beach) we come to eat. And we go to Rock (or how it's called) restaurant! It's so amazing there! Right now it's July 17 and after about one month I will go there again! I am very excited! BTW I live in Lithuania. So I get to Croatia like this: Lithuania, Poland, Chezek Republic, Austria, a little bit of Slovenia and then finally - CROATIA! I love love love you Cro and you are definitely my fave country in the whole white world! Kisses and greetings from Lithuania! ❤️🙌🏻😘👍🏼🇱🇹🇭🇷

      To be fair, in Croatia for instance, we would actually say "white world" while describing (poetically) the whole world in it's entirety with all the good and bad it encompasses. It does sound kind of strange when I think of it now, and I don't know if the original statement was derived from a similar, Lithuanian literal translation, but there it is :)

He is the kind of person who ruins your trip if you are unlucky enough to share a hotel/train/resort or even an entire country with.

    As a Swiss person who claims to be a Croatophile (Someone who loves Croats, Croatia, its culture and its language), I would love to visit the Islands of Dalmatia, Hvar, Dubrovnik, Split, Korčula, Istria, Rovinj, Novigrad, Cavtat, Grožnjan, Pag and Zagreb

      As a Dalmatian don’t miss Istrian inlands that is small Tuskany phemomenal and Poreč (laguna is the calming ever and some bizantine historiy there) and in Dalmatia islands Vis and Šipan (the last one my fave and the only one that gives you 16tn century poet palazzos kinda abandoned but mistique and peaceful avibe- mind you dalmatians had their Shakespeare before the Shakespeare)

    Just a few things I would like to add go this video:
    1. If you're traveling to Dubrovnik by a bus or a car, carry your passport! One part of southern Croatia is divided by a small part of Bosnian soil(we're building a bridge that will solve this issue)
    2. If you're into hiking please be prepared. We had a lot of tourists that went hiking without proper equipment and got injured in Croatian mountains.
    3. Croatia is a safe country. We're one of the safest countries in the European Union, if you're not looking for trouble you'll be safe,even in the late hours.
    4. There's a lot of things to see and enjoy here. If you're a party person you'll find a lot of clubs on the coast, definetely check out Zrce beach(often called Croatian Ibitza) Also there's Ultra Music Festival in Split. If you're a history buff then you have a loooot of places to choose from. From Dubrovnik, ancient Roman town of Split(Roman emperor Diocletian built his palace there and the old city center is situated in it)Pula, Trogir,Zadar, Sibenik,Solin... Inland Croatia has a lots of castles and beautiful cities that are not so popular among tourist but mix that with a great cousine and you have a perfect vacation.
    5. One thing that I always recommend to our guests, If you're staying here for 3+ weeks and want to see as more as possible choose 2-3 cities as your bases for your adventure of exploring Croatia. Croatian coastline is long and has a lot of beautiful cities and islands that are worth seeing so plan before you get here.
    6. Croatian national parks are totally worth seeing. From fascinating Plitvice lakes and waterfalls to Krka and island Mljet. Plitvice should be on the list of every nature lover that visits Croatia.
    7. Croatian motorway is the easiest way to travel so definetely rent a car service. In the video you can hear that you have to travel 16 hours to Dubrovnik, it's not that long but it's better to use rent a car and be completely free to plan your vacation
    8. Croatian food is great (as stated in the video) Everything has been said about our Mediterranean cousine but if you love meat you should definitely try our Dalmatian prosciutto (from inland Dalmatia),bacon, kulen (specialty from inland Croatia) and a lot more specialties.
    9. Things that my friends from northern America and Europe like the most is our wine. Croatian wine industry really took off and continues a long tradition of our people that can be seen today, from crljenak(Croatian immigrants brought this wine sort to America and is there known as Zinfandelo)plavac,malvazija you have a lot of wines to choose from,each bringing something unique from a different region of Croatia.
    10. Croatian people are really helpful and nice when you need instructions. I have to admit, I know that it sounds like a cliche, but after hearing some experiences from my foreign friends that traveled down the Croatian coastline even I was amazed and proud.
    12. If you're traveling by a bus you have to pay for your baggage, it's not included in your ticket price.
    13. Carry your sun cream!!!
    14. Uber is available in most of the cities.
    15. Almost every Croatian will be happy to teach you our swearwords :D
    Have a nice time here and
    enjoy.
    Welcome, or as we say Dobrodošli!

      @AgentZero62 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Psoriasis Buddy Actually I've lived in that area, you have to be in Kastela? Either way take a bus number 37 or 38.37 goes every 20 minutes from Trogir, there's a bit of a traffic jam in the morning but you should arrive in Split in 20 to 40 minutes depending in wich Kastela you are staying.

    • @AgentZero62
      @AgentZero62 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's like 35 minutes from Kastel Kambelovac to Split, when you get to the last bus stop just head south and you'll be in city center in 10 minutes.There you have a lot of cool restaurants and bars and sea promenade is a minute away. Split is an awesome place, has everything you want form a Mediterranean city so I have no doubt that you and your lady will enjoy it.

    I'm from croatia and I appreciate all the nice stuff you said, but I'd like to mention that croatia isn't really just a coastline with continental blob, biggest part of country is continental and completely different than the small coastline part and it has many nice features, I just hate how we're reduced to the coastline in eyes of foreigners.

    The Dalmatian coast was the most beautiful place I've ever seen...Rented a car and drove from split to Dubrovnik...Ended up taking some ferries to Hvar to end the trip. The drive through Hvar was one of the coolest experiences I've ever had. Unbelievably beautiful country, If you have time on your hands I would suggest renting a car....There are so many beautiful inland valleys and lakes, and the winding roads and sporadic, beautiful towns make it very worth it!

  • @JackDanielsCHS08
    @JackDanielsCHS08 10 ปีที่แล้ว +23

    of course I had feeling there would be some haters. Croatia is safe unless you decide to BE stupid and find trouble. As for hating gays and all tha crap, sure some people dont like the thought of homosexuality but from what I have experienced I have yet to hear a rude remark if a person found out that you were gay. As for the Crpatoans hating Serbs...seems like someone hasnt read upon the history or they just never heard of a news channel.
    the bus rides are long and somtimes I get the feeling the driver drives around just to kill time (Korčula to Zagreb).
    I would highly recommend visiting Korcula (the town) and the surrounding areas. Whenever I go I always hear some sort of event going on. There is also a sailing school where you can take classes and a few rental agencies (boats,kyacks,bicycle s,scooters,etc)
    also a must go is Mljet. its a national park which has one of the warmest lakes around, so if the water is too cold for your taste you can go there.
    This is a great place and I have been going there to visit relatives for years. If anyone has any questions I would be more than happy to answer them to the best of my knowledge.
    DONT listen to the haters and let them discourage you. See it amd experience it for yourself and then YOU be the judge.
    Greetings from a croatian living in the US
    sretan put I uzivaj te

    Haha people don't be afraid! I live in Vodice near Sibenik, and it's really nice place with beautiful beaches, you have content for older population and for young people you have a lot of beach parties, night clubs, beach and cocktail bars, and there is a lot of festivals around Vodice like Garden Festival in Tisno(Electronic music with much tourists from UK) or Terraneo in Sibenik(there was Prodigy and Wu-Tang Clan and many others).So i think you will love that, a morning coffe in your favourite caffe and when you opening the door waiter always know what do you want(in my case :D).We are not bunch of killers or mafia members, all people have stereotypes :) Just come and enjoy, our door is always open for all tourists.

      I just took the catamaran to Dubrovnik and back to Hvar in one day. I only had 4 hours in Dubrovnik, but that's all I needed as it was so overrun by tourists anyway, and I just wanted to sit on the Iron Throne and see other Game of Thrones sites, which I easily did in the time I had. So yes, a lot better transportation in all forms to and from all places in Croatia these days, thankfully....or should I say not, because that encourages tourists, of which there are already way too many. I so miss the days when I knew everyone walking along the streets of my dad's home of Hvar. Now I'm lucky if I see any familiar faces, they are all tourists. And Dubrovnik is so bad the mayor just announced they are going to be limiting entrance to 6000 people and if you want to enter, you have to wait for someone to leave. It certainly is a very different world.

    I went through my list with a few croatians we had met on the trip and they had said a simliar thing to you. Also, they mentioned how expensive Rovinj was in general in comparison to the rest of croatia and the same thing with the service. Some noted that tourists were treated much better than locals which surprised me a bit. Well, i have always met nice friendly croatians so far... so i hope i keep up my good luck. thanks for watching and commenting! All the best from the US

    Very good review. The cons in my opinion are minor. I for one am from Australia and if you want to see heat come here. Croatia is nothing compared to the heat in Australia. We would die without air conditioners in Australia. You are spot on with your pros- the food is amazing and fresh and the coastline is absolutely stunning and you seem very enthused thus I take it you really enjoyed Croatia. My profile pic is Plitvice Lakes in Croatia- one of my favourite places in the world

    Part of that was joke :) and then if you look at the bus schedules they are closer to 11 or 13 hours and not the 6 if you drive on your own. Lots of the people that follow the channel are bus/train travel people and not renting cars. That is why I wanted to warn them :)

    I visited a small town called Trpanj and it was a two hour drive north from Dubrovnik, the drive was long and boring but everywhere you looked just beautiful hills and coasts, it was truly incredible. By the way, many people warn you about how some people are homophobic and racist etc... but we truly met some of the most honest, loveliest people and they were so welcoming, I don't know if thats because i'm white and from the UK, aswell as not being Muslim or not, but it was incredible... I definitely recommend visiting the island of Korcula, and eating out as much as possible, because the food was some of the best i've ever had.

      Aurane Waters There is still conflict in Croatia and in areas like Split where it is a bit rough around the areas, discrimination and racism does occasionally happen. Croatia depends heavily on tourism, which is a shame because it's such a beautiful country. I read reviews on sites like Trip Advisor etc... their words, not mine. but the only people we encountered were helpful, generous and lively. Definitely planning on returning soon!

      Monstrosity x I think there is discrimination, as there is anywhere... The discrimination I experienced while I was there is more if you live there, such as a Jewish boy in my class or my sister for not speaking English. This is more long-term discrimination that might be excluding young children but isn't as prominent past elementary school. This isn't "hate" as it is in other places, but ignorance because the country is relatively homogeneous. But to tourists or to people on a short trip, they might get curious questions, but nothing that would qualify as dangerous

    • @madant7777
      @madant7777 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well, you could say older people are a bit homofobic because it is strange to them, but you could say that about any country. But racist, not at all. There are a few misconceptions like: all Asians photograph like crazy, black people must be from Nigeria, stuff like that because we don't have many of them, and in the end people don't really care ;)

    Hi Wolter, greetings from Zagreb. Unfortunately, all negative things you said about Croatia are true. Our government couldn't care less about transport infrastructure in means of trains and buses. Nice to see you were in Rovinj, and to hear you had a great time. Hope that you could visit inland next time. I don't know what interest you and your family most, but for me it is old cities like Varaždin with its Spancir-fest, Osijek, Old city in Zagreb, or renaissance fair in Koprivnica with 3 days of knight fights and living old style. It would be great if you could spend more time here 'cause every city has something specific about it.

    why would you go to Mediterranean tourist country in July or August, middle of the summer, and then complain about hot weather and tourists ? you ever been to Florida in August? 11 hours from Rovinj to Dubrovnik, duh , Rovinj is all the way on the North side, and Dubrovnik as far down south as you can go ... you need a car to get around? no you don't, public transportation, trains and buses are all over the place, and go just about everywhere ... you need a water shoes on the beach? after watching this video, i would suggest next summer you stay at home, and spend your summer at your local YMCA , that way you want have to deal with heat, and traffic ... and as far as expensive tickets go, I fly just about any day of the year from US to Zagreb round trip for about $1200-$1300 ...don't book your $6000 flight first class Lufthansa , go to www.cheaptickets.com and fly coach with United for $1200 ...

    Bout the travel bit he is not right .
    Within mainland europe you always can take a bus to Croatia .
    Eurolines or Prosič they depart from all big city's in europe to country's like Croatia or else in the Balkan .
    During christmas time you can take the bus nearly each day so if you can not fly to your destination you now know there is more ;-)

    Croatia is a strange country, you will have different people there, some of the people I met were the best in the world, but some people are very racists, homophobes, they don't like Muslims, Serbs, gay people, etc..they had referendum about gay people and 75% of the population said that only heterosexual marriage are normal, and I think they put that in their constitution, so be very careful...

    • @MikiOgo
      @MikiOgo 10 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      Predrag Nikic . I am 62 old croatian cityzen and it's a crap what you say about us. It is simple not true what you say. In the middle of Zagreb you have a Serbian orthodox church, you have also a mosque in Zagreb. Many people in Zagreb are multicultural. Many people are not Catholic. It is not true than 75% people are homofob. Yes we had a referendum, but only 34% of citizens have voting. cca 70% of 34% citizens are voting against a marriage in homosexuel relationsship. Also you can't write here than 70% of croatians are homofob. Normaly a Croat does't care abbout who you are, from where you are & who sleeps with you in yor bad.In the constitution of Croatia have a law that gay's can married (we didnt call it marriage then we have a different word for a gay couples) but they can live together by law. The only what they can't is adopt children together I know than some other countries in EU doesnt have the same rights for homosexuel. Only what a Croat exept from people they should be human. A real human. Please don't play with % any more. Read the facts. Sorry for my bad langueage. Can better write in German. Sorry.

      Not really. Only 3,5 million people are able to vote. 35% people voted which means that only 1225000 voted. From those 35% 66 % voted to add definition of marriage as union between male and female which leads us to final number of people that are homophobic and that is 808500 people.

These people are the kind of annoying tourists that go everywhere without respect or understanding. It's almost a non human experience

    • @squeakypancake8067
      @squeakypancake8067 9 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      Paideia #1) The natural beauty
      #2) The towns
      #3) The food
      So what exactly are you talking about? I'm not sure how a 10 minute video giving a pretty brief rundown of a country is supposed to make time to discuss the Battle of Pakozd and the war against Hungary, or the sociopolitical identity of the Balkan nations, or the staggering unemployment rate. I think this just more trusting everybody to be sane enough to understand that Croatia is not LITERALLY just these ten things, existing in a vacuum, with no culture, identity, past, present, or future, that some tourist just happened to slap the name 'Croatia' on.

    • @xcreeseseater38
      @xcreeseseater38 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +Paideia EXACTLY... within 2 seconds of the video starting I literally said "oh for fucks sake" out loud. I am american and try to avoid everything in connection with these type of travelers. Always try to show myself as someone more open to host country's traditions and cultures.
      He just looks like an annoying FUCK. avoid these people at all cost.

    • @paideia8352
      @paideia8352 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      +xcreeseseater38 yeah, ghost tourists we called them, they think countries are supermarkets: they care a lot about practical stuff (is the only thing they care about actually), talk rapidly and without pause, go to every landmark, take tons of similar pictures with them on it, get sunburned, talk to everybody without listening and then go back home without actually having given their own brains the chance to leave their country of origin.
      When they leave, nobody remembers their names; nobody will call them, when visiting the USA, to have a beer. Those are people who have the pics but were never there

    • @squeakypancake8067
      @squeakypancake8067 8 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Paideia I don't understand this weird, bizarrely detailed, circle-jerk cuckold fantasy you guys appear to be engaging in. You genuinely appear to be projecting what you want to see into this guy's video(s).
      I mean, when you ('within 2 seconds' even) decide that this guy looks like an 'annoying FUCK,' it probably just means you have a problem with being an asshole, and not that he has actually done anything. I have no idea what kind of traveler he is, but what is he even being judged on? That he looks a bit disheveled? I mean, I guess that's legit, but he spends part of the video talking about how HOOOOOT it is, and if you're coming from the U.S., yeah, it's pretty hot in high summer in Croatia. You're simply not going to look your most elegant while drenched in sweat, no matter what the movies say.

    • @paideia8352
      @paideia8352 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Ashley Letterman since the guy doesn't shut up for a second just put the video on mute. What do you see? Croatian streets, people, parks, beaches, houses? No, you only see a fixed camera with his non stopping talking head. I know it's just a visual metaphora about a particular aspect not an explanation, but it shows the spirit of the video: boring, annoying, shallow and egocentric

      +In1998able: How was your trip to Croatia? I am going there next week but only for 3 days. Would you recommend getting a rental car to travel from Zagreb to other cities to save travel time? Depending on time availability, my plan is to visit any combo of Dubrovnik, Hvar and Rovinj, starting from Zagreb. Any tips would be highly appreciated.

    as a young Croat i would recommend you:
    -Hvar
    -Zadar (itself, or a base for nearby islands)
    -Šibenik (during terraneo festival)
    -Pag, Novalja
    -Zagreb (though the nightlife during summer is a bit calmer than at the coast, but is still pretty good)
    but during summer there is a lot of beach parties, festival, theaters in open and all the crazy things we can think of...well everywhere :)
    hope you visit us this summer and enjoy your stay :D

    If anyone have chance to come to Croatia on vacation please try to visit whole country. From east to the south. Plenty of great places, from historical, natural beauties,... Try continental food from all over country - you will see and taste the difference from part to part of the country. There are many places for willage tourism, not just for the sea. Advent in Zagreb is most popular in Europe for last few years, and so more....

      Depends on the part of Croatia you're in.
      If you're in Osijek, chances are you're gonna be bitten quite a couple of times. However most parts get very little to none, while some get moderate amount of mosquitoes.
      Osijek can be a bit unbearable when the city officials don't do a proper job on the mosquito dusting job, but the last few years have been pretty much mosquito free.

      +John Stromboli I was born in Croatia and have a home on Hvar; I haven't had problems with mosquitoes on Hvar, but for years I had a boyfriend from a teeny village next to Šibenik called Brodarica. He was a tennis player and I'd always go watch him play tennis at a resort nearby called Solaris. I would have to cover up from head to toe because I'd be mercilessly eaten up by mosquitoes, and to a lesser extent also at his mom's house in Brodarica where we stayed. Literally if there was even one inch exposed between my pants hem and shoe, there would be bites there.

    I travel to Croatia every summer for two months and I recommend if you want to travel to Croatia during the summer you should take Condor to fly there. Condor is basically a cheaper version of Lufthansa but it's still pretty nice. I fly out of Toronto and I usually go in premium economy (free movies, a premium meal and ton more room)but in regular economy if you book at least 2 months in advance you can get tickets as cheap as $450 CAD which is like $300 USD and premium economy is usually $600-$750. Also I recommend going on the seaside and visiting the different islands but one of my favourite islands by far is Lošinj. There is a town there called Mali Lošinj and it is amazing and there are such great restaurants where I've had a big steak with tons of truffle sauce and a side for about $30 CAD. And lastly if you are going to Croatia and you are going on the seaside (and you shouldn't really go to Croatia if you aren't going on the seaside) you should stay at least 2 weeks because for starters if you are coming from North America like me its first gonna take you about a day or more to get used to the time change and also you dont want to stay for just a week and then have it rain for half the time. This is why I stay for two months and you probably think that must be crazy expensive but it's not, it usually by the end including the cost of getting around Croatia and food and everything thing it usually costs around $7000-$9000 and you think that's a lot but most of the people that I hear go on vacation to Paris or London or like the Bahamas or carribean usually spend almost the same amount of money for 1 or two weeks and yeah the stay in really nice hotels but it's only for a week. I stay in Airbnb's and cheap little apartments but it's worth it to be able to travel to 3-4 different islands over the course of 2 months. So I recommend if you're going to Croatia, stay in a small apartment or Airbnb for a month or so and not a $500 a night hotel for a week.

    Croatia is not as dangerous as they say it is, but you still got to be very careful. I live in Zagreb in Croatia and I love this country because it is too beautiful but I hate people in Croatia. It is full of racists, homophobes and they hate everybody who is not christian, of course I'm not applying that to everyone but 80% are that way. I just can't stand people here and there is no job so I plan on moving to USA or UK.

    Advice for all the tourist. If you are going in the middle of summer then pick a city lets say Makarska. And then instead of going to Makarska go check everything from Brela to Zaostrog (50 km span) and see where you like it. We have many small villages, with up to 300 people, that will make you fall in love with them. I know tourists who come in my village for 40 straight years and all they did was what I said. The main city is always going to be within 20 minutes by car and you won't have to handle the full beaches, but you will always be able to go for a walk

    True, a bit of an over exaggeration on my part there. Sometimes I get a bit too excited when I am talking. Basically wanted people to know that its not a "berlin to hamburg" 1.5 hour trip, it is awhile... so they should stop a few places along the way to see other beautiful towns :) i think that would be a good thing to do. We loved Croatia and may be coming back for another stay next summer. 2 to 3 weeks and try to visit all the people who have been writing on here saying Zdravo :) all the best

    I agree.. But i think if anyone would give it a go and visit not only the coast, they would enjoy it as well. Croatia has beautiful rivers for swimming, rafting, canooing, waterfalls, hot water sources (also for swimming) and places where you can get adventurous and ride quads, horses, go mountain climbing, visit caves, and ofcourse many towns that truly show the damage that the war has done to them.. Many cities are restoring their towns and its actually really worth visiting in my opinion.

    Zadar is great place to visit, ancient and beautiful! You can have a trip by tourist boat (around 50$) to Kornati islands which are amazing. But it is not a place from where to go to Venice, too far. Cheers and have fun in Croatia!
