"Avoid zeros" (proceeds to play zeros)
The acoustic solo was very shmexy 👌
Level 9 was sick.
This shit sounds like metalcore man!
@@hellion6737 uno reverse card!
Matt Heafy, Will Ramos, and now Niclas Englin? Dude, you're not just killing it...this is a straight up massacre!
Thank you!
He collab'd with Will?!
@@dcfromthev - Yup. They covered "Recreant" by Chelsea Grin.
That acoustic part is so beautiful its like a medicine for the soul
Thank you!
Reminded me of Times Of Grace.
Sounds a lot like "Regret Not" by All That Remains
It's almost funny how good he is at shredding on an acoustic too. Watch some of his solo music videos with his acoustic (Desolate is literally just a metalcore song on an acoustic guitar)
@@egornothing1313 I was thinking the same thing my guy
You had me at "avoid only hitting 0s" 😂
- Caleb
It was hard
WE NEED MORE OF THESE NIK. PLEASE SERVE US SOME MORE OF THESE MASTERPIECES
I try D:
@@NikNocturnal TRY HARDER, PLEASE
Dude, how cool is this! Nik you're already a legend!!
Thank you!
@@NikNocturnal I agree im so proud to see you grow. you do you. whatever the haters hate do fucking more of fam. stay metal.
I know this sounds dumb but thanks for not, like completely shredding, this makes me feel like an actual guitarist
Np!
I feel ya, man...
Yes!!!?
let's be honest, most people are not Brandon Ellis lol
I know what OP means, the feeling after watching Ichika or Manuel Gardner Fernandes, Tim Henson, Jason Richardson, etc
Melodeath was my gateway to heavier music. Bands like Bodom, In Flames, Dark Tranquility, Amon Amarth, Nightrage, and Kalmah will always have a place in my heart.
Such good bands
Same
Nice musical taste
Insomnium, wolfheart, edge of sanity....
@@lunarstrain7538 amazing bands, Mors Principium Est, Made of Hate, Skyfire, Mors Subita, Norther, Wintersun are great too
MeloDeath has some of my favorite riffs and solos ever, such a fantastic genre
Melodeath got me into extreme metal, it opened the doors for me to enjoy techdeath, progdeath, viking metal, basically everything, and melodeath continues to keep me in the genre. Melodeath is perfect.
@@nathancail7939 Same, I cant get enough of it
Nicolas's picking style is so unique
Pinkies out, all classy and stuff
His hand movement is awesome to watch.
Odd but classy
Such a great player. His riffs in Engel and Passenger ( with Anders ) are really catchy. So glad he is getting some well deserved credit.
You can truly tell that 00's and 10's metal wouldn't exist as we know it without the influence of this genre
Facts
Dont forget hardcore punk which slowly evolved into metalcore by the 90s. Metalcore, breakdowns, plus melodic death metal riffs=early 00s metalcore/post hardcore
Not all, only metalcore and deathcore, gotta give credits to hardcore punk and metallic hardcore too
@@ThatShitGood I never said it was the only influence. But it certainly it was at least half of the equation, pop punk was also a big influence. The classic metalcore choruses are really poppy. The kids that listened to extreme metal also listened to blink 182 and green day.
Iron Maiden with death metal vocals
Melodic death by far superior to metalcore
Agreed
that's actually is objectively true. Most metalcore (the one that everyone is joking about) with a few exceptions is just a simplified version of riffs from SoTS and Clayman played over and over with the addition of 0'hitting
@@user-gi1dm4vz8rsimplified? It seems that metalcore took the riffing style further and progressed it into something more complete and technical. Melo-Death is GOATed for creating it tho
The Acoustic Break is literally the reason I fell in love with melo-death 🥰
Hahahaha
Havnen´t even watched the whole vid and i knew it was comming😂
What songs do you recommend that have acoustic breaks ?
@@pinkly4532 i personaly love moonshield by in flames. I would also check out dirge for november, the drapery falls and the moor by opeth
@pinkly4532 Insomnium has some great acoustic parts. I especially like the album intros they do. The intros are not always acoustic tho.
All 10 levels sound like an In flames song.
I'm cool with that
except level 3 which are genuine Insomnium
@@user-qs8gv2sh7j Level 6 really reminded me of Soilwork
And level 8 (harmonic minor) really reminds me of At The Gates
Two sounded just like "beyond the flames" from kse
It's intriguing of how oldschool metalcore sounds almost similar to melodic death metal
Yup!
@@NikNocturnal please tech me Nik when I get a Guitar
I mean, metalcore in the 00's used to draw a lot from melodeath. (In the 90's it was closer to hardcore punk, and in the last 5-10 years it's been starting to incorporate more and more Meshuggah influences, as well as post-rock elements and even some nu metal)
There's even this joke/stereotype that all metalcore bands from that era almost literally ripped off Slaughter of the Soul.
@user-Ig7oq2qn6j Agreed. Metalcore wouldn´t be as it is today without In Flames, At The Gates and all those early melodeath bands.
In flames will always be in my top 10
@@NikNocturnal maybe you can do top black dahlia murder riffs in honor of Trevor strnad
Level 3 riff is what makes Insomnium godlike.
It is so awesome to have a member from the pioneers of Melodeath/sweden death metal genre in your video!
Can you please say what the track it?
@@semen083 sounds like Mortal Share
@@semen083Mortal Share
Every reaction Nik is all "oh ho ho, I'm quitting guitar because I suck" and then he pulls a stunt like this where he's absolutely killing it with technique and writing.
Love in flames - both styles . And the halo effect is gonna be so good once it’s released
Love them!
It's not so good now?
@@kqh123 so a lot of people say but I think they do their current style well. I love melodeath just as much as anyone else but I don’t mind the more alternative ish style they are doing now.
@@cmc47834 no, I'm saying the Halo Effect have put out 3 songs and it's *already* good.
I don't like new in flames. It's not Death Metal. Not heavy enough.
@@kqh123 oh I got you. Yeah I love the new songs from halo effect but I meant the whole album
Legendary. In Flames is one of my favourite bands, this is such a great collab Nik
btw, you slayed the outro
Thank you :D
That acoustic outro gave me city of evil vibes 🔥
I'll take it
To me, it gives me vibes from This Darkened Heart by ATR
@@zackadams419 yeah this. Reminded me of their instrumental track "Regret Not"
That solo into the acoustic break. Chefs kiss
I remember seeing Niclas' original band Engel supporting Children of Bodom on their Are You Dead Yet? tour. I have Engel's original demo that they gave out for free on that tour. One of the best live performances I've ever seen. 'Casket Closing' by Engel is still an absolute banger.
The album he did with Anders is also grear Passenger.
The best part is we’ve already had a numetal revival for a few years, so logically the new wave of MDM is right around the corner
Be’lakor already doing it.
Admittedly I never really got into MeloDeath but I still enjoyed this, that acoustic solo at the end was just incredible
Glad you enjoyed it!
BTW that solo is from The Days of The Lost by The Halo Effect! Really great track!
Listening him play 'Salvation' of Engel is always nice. Hope they do something again.
Love this. That acoustic break at the end I could listen to on repeat all day
Аккустическая часть просто нектар для ушей, впрочем, как и остальное видео. Спасибо, Ник)
Level 8 was Salvation by Engel, one of Niclas' side projects, and a phenomenal band in general.
The solo was from a The Halo Effect song, which is also Niclas other band xd
L4 is Shadowminds and L10 is Days of The Lost
Love for Niklas and that the first riff he plays is actually from Deserted, and the second one is Flipside of Reality, both from his split up band Gardenian.
Thanks for the info! I had a feeling it might have been something from the first 2 Gardenian albums but couldn't figure out which songs.
Nice vid, melodeath is one of my fav genres
Now put them all together and make a song out of it.
:D
Dude yes!
@@NikNocturnal you gotta! And PLEASE include that acoustic outro that shit was lovely
That acoustic section tho. Almost made me cry n’ junk 🥲
melodeath vibes Instantly feel and Sound awesome, always. this will always be my Favorite Genre i think
It doesn't matter what type of video it is. Its always gonna be a banger
tytyty
Level 3 - open string lead - screams the discography of Insomnium...!
Man, seeing to different generations of metal being blend Together through niclas and nik warms my heart deeply
:D
This is gonna sound like heresy, but I need a full version of that acoustic part ASAP
Level 6 is Nickelback's best riff to date
That’s a sick riff tho
@@bvanquish777 This Means War is a good song, I don't know if dudes noticed the similarity
@@jesseliikamaa1753 it's not a good song, and it's the same riff
TASTY Nickelback riffs in Level 6! God those are spicy!
1:03 shadowminds, 2:49 days of the lost
I've been privileged to see Niclas play up close a few times live. He makes everything look effortless.
Okay, that audibly painful breath at not hitting 0's was comedic gold dude. XD
Мой любимый стиль в метале..первый раз услышал DT The Galery в 1998 году в российской глубинке и снесло крышу. Сечас Halo Effect слушаю..как бальзам на Душу. Здоровья и Удачи всем металхедам!)
that acoustic thooooo
;)
Absolutely sick! Love all the really cool stuff you've been doing recently!
Biggest surprise was not only that Nik owns an acoustic but resisted the urge to hit 0 a lot
TRUE
Really enjoyed this. The last part going out w/ the solo following the acoustic break was a perfect wrap.
Man I just love these types of videos.
Keep it up🤘
Great :D
This is so lovely. Melodic metal is quite soothing, and I've loved in flames for like ever, so this is also quite epic
This is so sick man, loving seeing you branching out from metalcore!
Lecel 6 and 8 combined is just Soilwork
Yes, my favorite genre! You guys nailed it.
Thanks for all the great content Nik, keep it coming! Every time I see one for your guitar vids it inspires me to pick my guitar up, and if I'm having a bad day I'll just go throw on one of the challenge vids and watch you try not to laugh or cringe. You deserve all the recognition you're getting rn and mre
Thanks Austin!
Great stuff man thanks for creating this
That acoustic bit was heartbreaking, even as short as it was.
This is great! I recently dusted off Reroute to Remain a month ago. Been killin it Nik!
It’s like listening to your heart beating faster with every level ❤
My favourite part was the accoustic break, seeing nik pick an acoustic hits different 😍
2:07 is definitely the riff from the song Salvation which is by Niclas’s other band Engel.
Gorgeous.♥️🤘🔥 Please do more of these collabs!
Bro you need to do more acoustic sounds amazing.
Definitely will eventually :D
Holy crap, those pedal note and harmony leads sound kickass. Amazing work you guys
That acoustic break though...chills. It reminds me of Mandragore by Godzilla (Gojira's old name)
As a core kid melo death riffs are still my go to for anything metal
Beautifully done... Love it all 🤘😊
Thank you!
KEEP IT COMING NIK
This came out perfectly! Melodic Death Metal is my favorite subgenre
entire video is top tier, but that acoustic part is something special. Very well played, sir
The acoustic at the end 😍
Loved it ❤️
Thank you!
Now that was juicy!
MDM will always be one of my most favourite sub-genres in metal, loved it!
We even got goofy Nik faces, a great little detail. 😁
;)
Really loved your acoustic solo!
Still waiting for the 10 levels of Black Metal in the future -with Nergal.-
Never let anyone or even yourself telling you you're not a good guitarist. You're a great one.
That outro was Amazing.
❤️
Dope! Rewatch it over and over again! 🙏✨❤️🤘
Wow, this is really cool! Legend guest, legend host!
:D
Nice collab with one of my favorite guitarist. Niclas is really awesome
That Harmonic minor part (Level 8) he played sounded a lot like older Devildriver material! I loved it
Wasnt expecting the acoustic part at the end nice vid i enjoy this format a lot, love from France
Thank you!
Love the acoustic break. So good
That acoustic break had me sobbing I love it
Met Niclas in SLC on their tour with all that remains several years ago… still one of the coolest dudes I’ve ever met in metal. Glad to see him get some recognition!
That acoustic solo was just the perfect way to end another epic video!
Wait, it's all just In Flames and Insomnium? - Always has been.
Niclas Engelin & JB Brubaker have the most unique picking styles I’ve ever seen
I'm a sucker for the acoustic/clean tone break in my metal songs man. Something about that just speaks to my soul
Hey I kinda sorta already do some of this ish and In Flames is one of the biggest reasons why.
Fantastic stuff brah.
I don't know how this pairing came about but man am I here for it. Well done Nik!
Perfect! Cheers, guys!
0:04 - 4:20 So epic!!! ⚡🔥
I saw Niclas play with In Flames in 2013, his live energy and charisma was crazy. His other band Engel has some great riffs too.
I love this.. It was more of an actual melody rather than midless shredding
Dude this is amazing! You're living out my wet dream.
This is awesome!
I used to play. Actually uploaded a few covers to my channel but somewhere along the way I just kinda lost the drive to play. Your videos make me wanna go back...
Awesome
I love these videos! I've been re -watching all the old '10 levels of...' videos recently. Please make mote! And I really want to see more of your gameplay of that band simulator game!
That's supposed to say please make more! Lol
Dude how can I love this just as much as the Trap Metal song? At this point, you've reached a status where everything you touch turns to gold man! Congratulations!
My favorite style of Metal. And i love the end of the video.
