Crazy as it may sound, Floor Jansen was anonymous in her home country until 2019. This was the show that introduced me and just about all of the people of the Netherlands to Floor Jansen. I don’t know about the rest of my country folk but I googled Night Wish and the song I listened too was Ghost love score and was instantly hooked on as fan. Soon after I listened to almost anything I could find of them and grew in love with the entire band. My husband died the next year way too early due to brain cancer and it was night wish music that brought me solace. In his last year my husband too couldn’t get enough of this episode of Beste Zangers which has been a hit for many years but the year with Floor was their best year.
Floor conveys emotions like nobody else. She would sing “Row Row row your boat” and you would be so excited for the upcoming journey ;)
It has been suggested that Floor could sing a Chinese dictionary and still convey a sh*tload of emotions
There's a vid on TH-cam where she sings a Telephone book... Floor's able to sing every text you give her.... Can't wait to see her live for the 1st time in my life in may and then with her album what will be released two days before my birthday.
What amazes me, is how modest Floor is. All the things I've heard her say in many hours of footage, she's always been kind and loving. Just not a person that can be arrogant, inspite of her brilliance. She worked damn hard for 25 years to get where she is at. She deserves every fan she has today . tx for the vid. 🍀❤

This show is not a competition which is what I love about it. Not everything has to be a competition. It’s just some singers having fun and doing what they do best.
And they get to stretch their own boundaries by exploring other genres, as well as appreciate each other's work. It's an AMAZING build for a show. I really WISH we had something like it here in the U.S.... :)

@@bertjones3010 Even Wiki can get it wrong because of some know-nothing typing things in. Don't believe everything you read. Watch the show for yourself to find out. It's not REALLY a competition, at least not anything like we have over here.

The singer in the middle would say who could replace him, in case he would become ill.
Floor didn't win the show. It's not a competition. It's only to honor the singer's. Nothing else.

After this episode showed up on TV, this version of Shallow immediately hit #1 in Netherlands charts. After her crazy success on Beste Zangers, Floor started her mini European solo tour (10 shows overall). Tickets to these shows have been sold-out completely in a span of 24 hours. She started the crowdfunding campaign to raise 20K euros to hire a team to film her 10th show with behind-the-scenes and the show itself with good quality, and she hit 20K+ euros mark in just 3 hours.Then the pandemic started, and 10th show is still on a schedule.
There is no winners on this show, this is where singers are just singing songs for each other, drinking champagne and enjoying Ibiza sun ;)
The show is not a contest, just singers singing to each other. Floor performed a song called "Winner" from Tim Ackermann and many people apparently got confused by the title "Beste Zangers - Floor Jansen - Winner"

Ronny Seffinga I checked to be sure and there is in fact a winner at the end of every season, sometimes their are two winners. That doesn’t mean they win anything. Also, the title before “Beste Zangers” was “De Beste Zangers van Nederland” (the best singers of the Netherlands). The point of the program is to find the best current singer in the Netherlands. The singer who wins with the most performances is the winner at the end of the season. Again, that doesn’t mean they necessarily win anything.
@@sanderhoogeland9161 What you're talking about was the formula for the show when it started 12 years ago. I don't know when they changed that formula, but since I saw all 2019 episodes I can guarantee you that there was absolutely nothing to be won and therefor no winner. The only thing that happened at the end of each episode, the duets finale not included, is that the 'couch celebrity' was asked which performance touched him/her most. Nothing more, nothing less.

I love this version! It's so full of emotion. I really like the middle part where she's humming it's so mesmerizing...
The show is not really about winning, but about celebrating the artistry and differences between the singers. Asking those taking part who they considered the best is just an informal given.
Emma and Floor bonded in a very special way in this show and cultivated a very special friendship. They didn't knew each other and coming from different backgrounds and"musical worlds" so to speak, not to mention their age difference, it's a very sweet thing to see.
Where we can see this very clearly is when Emma sang one of Floor's songs from After Forever called Strong, wich is a very personal song Floor wrote about her mother. It's not a rock or metal song, it's pretty much in this same format, and you can clearly see Floor reaction to it as she starts making a futile effort to hold her tears in and starts crying while listening Emma. I start sobbing everytime I see this one aswell lol. Check it out, it's a very special one.
ofc she picked a a song thats not metal. There is NO way emma could pull that off. Imagine her trying sing something like Monolith of Doubt.

I am so going to check out the Halestorm video after this. Fun fact, Lzzy Hale is one of Floor's favourite singers. Sometimes small is big and this version proves that.
A few minor details - the show was not a competition, it is more like getting to know each other's genres and skills. It is a world wide concept, and occasionally shows like these, totally gets people out of their chairs, back home behind the tv set.
And you are spot on - at this time they were all lying flat on their backs whenever Floor entered the stage. But Henk also really got to live again - his version of Sound of Silence which he performs for Floor, are probably the best version ever performed live. For the first time in his life, he uses distortion in his voice - phenomenal performance

1) Floor knows how to show off, without looking like showing off.
2) Floor beat Lady Gaga at her own game.

Not completly true, there are overall winners, because every episode they ask wich song stick most with the person emotionely. Fun fact, the overall win this season was for Samantha Steenwijk and Rolf Sanchez.
But I agree that there is none competition going on between them :)
might of got mixed up with the fact she won pop act of year just from her preformances on the show, and charted globally with some of her preformances
I personally like the version she did with Tim Akkerman of the same song. She doesn't hold back. The whole show is great. Treat yourself and watch whole episodes.
you are right, she can do anything with her voice but with a lot of work that we don't see. but technics is only here for deserve the way she wants to go for telling us a story and deliver emotions. smart choices, her sensibility and her background/knowledge are used not for technical demonstration (troll on: not like Dismach) but to touch your soul and bring you in her interior world. For me, a nice soul and an incredible artist this goddess ;).

You should take a look at the Emma song for Floor: "Strong". she did a very good job. the context is important too. it's a song writen by Floor for her mother and she never be able to sing it. a great moment of pure emotion...

Usually the participants choose their duet partner during the show. Henk and Floor already agreed, before the recording of the show, that they would sing the Phantom in the duet episode.
The others didn't know that.
Floor asked the team of Beste Zangers to ask Henk to perform it with her. Although he had never heard of her he said yes, if he was allowed to sing it with her the next time she was in Amsterdam with Nightwish.
She said yes, due to covid that concert was postponed 3 times. So it took years
It happened last weekend.
It was epic, I was there, twice :-) at the Ziggo Dome.
It is recorded officially by Nightwish, but at the moment already on TH-cam.

The Swedish version of this show is directly translated to "So much better". But it is not trying to show how much better they are it is just celebrating the artist the is in focus in the episode.

Emma is a TH-cam cover singer with 2.5 million subscribers and many of her cover songs have over 10 million views.
You should watch all the full episodes of this show. It was amazing and full of great talent. And there’s no winner.
At the end of each episode the highlighted artist for that week will pick which of the others made the biggest impression on them for that one show but there really is no winning per se other than that they all enjoyed each others talent.
However, this is the only season I have watched and I had to rely on someone else for translation. Perhaps someone from the Netherlands will give a better explanation but that is what I gathered from the comments last summer as the episodes came out.
As for your comments I thought it rather discourteous to comment over top of the other artist; in this case talking over the short clip of Emma Heesters before Floor began.
Addressing the order of the performances, Floor both began this season of the show with Vila Lied as a relative unknown and ended the season with Phantom of the Opera. Before she sang only Tim and Henk really had heard of her. The show host had to look it up to try to figure out what symphonic metal was. It actually worked out well that Phantom was the last song. If you paid enough attention during the performance of Phantom you can see water falling around the stage. This was filmed essentially in a tent and at the start of Phantom of the Opera a storm began that added to the atmosphere of the song but it did begin leaking just before Floor and Henk went on stage.
The song Vivo Per Lei that Henk Poort and Emma Heesters did together is also well worth a listen. While I tuned in for Floor the others are also good.
This was quite different from what we usually see on your channel.
So smooth, airy, hypnotherapy... Her voice control is on top. Fantastic!
BTW, the blond girl, a little part of whose cover was played - her singing is angelic and I definitely want to check out her version of Shallow as well.

I think that program concept doesn't have a winner because then all other participants would be losers. Though, in the last episode (duets) everyone chose an artist that made an impression to them. Some told Floor made the biggest impact but that doesn't mean she won.
Just another reminder, Floor was working as a vocal coach before joining Nightwish so she really knows her vocal limits though Tuomas explored them further in "Human. Nature." ;) You should check out Emma's (Heesters) rendition of "Strong" from Floor's episode. That's a song written by Floor to his mother battling against constant pain of hers.

Yes, Winner is definitely worth a listen. Not only because it's a great song but because the reason behind the lyrics and also the reason she chose that song shows her amazing personality and compassion for others. Truly a remarkable person!

The reference to Phantom of the Opera is because Henk played the Phantom in this musical in The Netherlands. He was the first to perform in this role.

A song for Floor? I would say Emma Heesters singing Strong and Henk Poort, singing The sound of Silence or Rolf Sanches doing Hotel California (this one is also unexpected..), or Samantha Steenwijk doing a dutch version of the NW song Our decades in the sun. … I think I can recommend all songs for Floor, but these are my favorites.

It’s funny you made the comment about Emma worried that Floor was better...through this whole series I felt none of them wanted to sing right after her. Probably why Phantom was the last song of the season.

Gave it a thumbs up in spite of quite a few lame comments by you. The show is Dutch, the Phantom was the last song of the last night. Shallow....Yes it is a cover.....what else would you sing to a TH-cam Cover Artist ? You sing the song she says is her favorite. After this show people in her country finally know who Floor is. Hardly any Metal is ( was ) played there, they love Pop. She can't walk in most European Cities without a crowd gathering. At home not many knew who the tall girl was....The IRONY !!!! That is about to change.

Maybe a weird concept to you all (well maybe no all) according to wikipedia Samantha Steenwijk and Rolf Sanchez together were the most chosen after every episode. I've loved all of them. Every artist got me captivated with their ability to move me, whether crying, dancing or laughing. Emma with Strong. Henk with Sound of Silence. Tim Akkerman with Dear Mr. President. Rolf Sanchez with his latin version of Hotel California. Samantha Steenwijk with Decades in the sun and Floor with About love I don't know a thing and ofcourse our Benjamin Ruben Annink with Hoe is hij? They were all bloody brilliant but anyone has a favorite for sure... but nobody was better than the rest. So had to get that off my chest. 😁 💋
The show has no winner (even though Floor sings "Winner" for Tim and people got confused), the person that receives the songs picks the favourite in the end of each episode and i think that one is released as a single, but the whole show is just a celebration of music more than a competition which is pretty cool. Floor was picked by Rolf for her "Que Se Siente", if i'm not mistaken.
Also, check out "Shallow" by Floor in duet with Tim, that's closer to the original, i like both versions but in that one she goes bigger which of course it's never a bad thing with Floor.
He picked up Henk, he only said Floor´s performance was the most surprising to him. However.. they choose not the best, but the most (emotional) touching performance. And that depends more on the "what meens the song to me" than on "how good was the performance".
If I remember correctly, Floor was only picked up by Tim for "Winner". Floor herself choosed Emma for "Strong".

I thought the episodes this year were phenomenal as were all artists on this show. Floor basically stole the show and was recognized as such here in the Netherlands. That being said, this performance, even though Floor sang it very well, did not wow me as her other performances did. It was good, but not special. Nevertheless, Floor represented her genre very well and due to the show many started to search online for her music. So., respect for that!
IMNSHO, Floor blows Lady Gaga out of the water. And Emma too.
You're right with saying that she knows her voice and what it can do very well. I think it's because of that that when you're watching her sing she makes it all look so effortless. Where you'll visibly see some singers who don't know the limit or range of their voice have to dig really deep in order to hit a note, there's always a worry or feelings of embarrassment for them that their voice will crack, go flat, or just give out. But, you never see that with Floor because she knows how to work the instrument that is her voice.
With in hours of her singing this song it hit #1 on the iTunes chart and stayed there for several weeks. I think it's because alot of people, including me, liked this version of the song better than the one in the movie A Star Is Born. I think it's because of a couple of reasons, the main one being that she personalized it and not just for Emma. Changing and removing the lyric, "Tell me something Boy..." To keeping them both at, "Tell me something Girl.." makes it look like she's singing it to Emma, coming across as someone giving advice by asking questions of self reflection. Kinda like a "Is this REALLY you? Are you happy with what you are doing and where you are right now?" type of questions that one would expect out of an older or more experienced person giving the advice. Although Floor doing that also shows how easily one can change up that lyric to suite the person wither it a guy or girl. Floor also personalized the song by slowing it down, keeping it small and not it so grandiose. By doing that it makes it more one on one, intimate, and personal. So it comes across as two people having a privet serious conversation involving self reflection. It's something everyone, at one point or another, in their lives, has gone through with a friend or relative. It's that conversation that most of us have experienced with our parents and our parents start to reflect back on what they themselves have gone through in their own lives. Much much more relatable, genuine, and heartfelt to the listener that what the movie produced.

i hope she doesnt think that and learn to put her own twist on the songs she covers as she has an amazing voice as well but just cover songs isnt enough she need to turn them into something of her own like how Floor as done in all the episodes she found a song and turned into her own song something not what youd think she an do but she twists it to her own style
