Just the fact that Floor walked on this show with absolutely nobody knowing anything about her except that she was a metal singer and then watching her violate their emotions with everything she sang was awesome to watch.
Speak for yourself. I've seen her lots of times when she was singing with After Forever and Ayreon and I knew exactly what she is capable of. A lot of people in the metal scene know of her.
@@johnlindquist1784 If someone states that abolutely nobody knew anything about her he really means that he knew absolutely nothing about her. So he has to speak for himself and not for me. That is a fact and there is nothing rude about that. Maybe I'm more direct than you like.
In my humble opinion, Floor is an incomparable vocalist. At times, when she's singing, I feel ready to charge into battle. And then there are times like this where her voice envelopes you like the softest of soft materials and whisks you away to heaven. She's enchanting. Thank you for another great video, Ms. Nilon.
i have seen her being compared to whitney houston, mariah carey, lady gaga, shakira or christina agiulera, but she is WAY over them.. there is no competition !
Emma (sparkly red dress) was the centre of attention for this episode. She's famous in Holland for doing covers of songs on TH-cam and she does them very well - she's a really good singer. One song she covered was Shallow in full Gaga mode. Floor decided to cover it for Emma but Floorify it. I see it as either a mother singing to her daughter or as the wise, experienced Floor passing on some guidance to the bright new talent before her. Hence "girl" twice in the lyric. I'm pretty sure this hit number one on the Dutch iTunes chart after the show aired.
If you watch the full episode with English subtitles, you will learn that the band suggested to Floor that she sing much of this in her head voice and keep is somewhat small because of the impact she can make doing it that way. You can learn a ton about Floor by watching the subtitled episodes of Beste Zangers in which she is either singing or being sung to. Also, I bet others have commented on this, but I believe Floor sang "girl" twice because she is singing to Emma.
Thank you, Julia. This song makes me feel the vulnerability and, honestly, fear when you first fall head over heels in love. You know you're completely at someone else's mercy, but you've gone too far to turn back, so all you can do is throw yourself into the moment. This is the definitive version of Shallow to me.
Came to this reaction right after watching "7 Days to the Wolves" - hard to believe this is the same singer. What in incredibly versatile voice she has. She hits you in the feels every time. Every single time.
I dearly love when you close your eyes and just feel the music. And then you fine tune your attention to the voice you're attending to. That's why we love you.
One of the guys being completely blown away is Ruben, and I think you should react to when Floor sings an English version of his highly personal song back to him (same show, About Love I don't Know a Thing). She just blows his mind with her version and though I'm not quite certain about the subtitle (I don't know Dutch), which has him saying "It's absurd how you make everything better!", I clearly heard him say absurd, and she, humble as ever says something about how it's a beautiful song and how good of a story teller he is. It hit me right in the feels. And yes, Floor is amazing!
There's a bunch of reasons I like watching your reaction videos, but I really appreciate how CRISP your own audio quality is. It doesn't distract from the source video and it allows us to enjoy both without losing audio quality on either.
North Wales division of the nightwish army checking in looking forward to seeing this reaction personally this is the best version of this song in my opinion
Floor is sing this song to Emma and she decided to make the change to personalize this rendition. Remember this show is all about singing for each other. It is not a competition. Once again the intention was to not imitate or copy what Gaga does. The band on the show suggested that she keep is small, to make it very unique and special. It was also sung in a higher key to match her sweet spot. Great job Julia. Loved it so much.
Imagine 75% of the netherlands didnt know floor untill this show.... I am so glad I know her since like 2002 or something. She is so damn talented. The faces of everyone made me tear up when I watched the show. So good
When she sings, it is clear that we are in the presence of true beauty and grace. Her voice connects directly to my tear ducts. Just beautiful. Love Love Love.
Thank you for putting into words the feelings I have for this performance, Lady Gagas version is more of a cry for help where this is an intimate whisper of shared emotions.
Hey Julia, no idea how long it takes Floor to decide what she's going to do, but she always make a song her own. Whether it's a Lady Gaga, a Tarja, an Anette, or anyone else song, she make it her own
This is a masterclass of emotional ballad singing. She use her vocal timber as a tool to convey emotions. Excellent performance. Sorry to say, but a way better than gagas and brads "original". But hey, Merry Christmas from Finland - the home of the Santa Claus! ⛄🎅👍

Marcel Fisson, the musical director for the show, recommended this stripped-down arrangement to Floor when she chose it as the song she'd sing for Emma. Floor agreed. We hear the result.

3:32.. Jules.. she sings this particularly for the blondie inthe red dress... eacht gets an episode on "The Seat" and the others will sing songs that inspired the person on the seat, or sing a song of them..
I like Julia reacting to stuff. A lot of people I've seen do vocal reactions tend to stop the song too often, which is a bit grating, but Julia conveys technical information in the form of text on the screen, and therefore stops the song less. This is a really good idea, and I'm quite surprised no one else does it...
Check out roadie reactions with Tank. He does this. Interestingly he explains things from a tech/ instrument, pyrotechnics viewpoint instead of vocal. Really interesting.
Absolutely fabulous i get shivers throughout it . Floor works hard on songs to get it right .Example When Tuomas gave Floor the lyrics and melodies for Human II Nature she looked at them and said im going to have to take this away to work on them awhile.well before doing them with the band. She worked on all the songs for this program with the house band .Dedication to excellence
Hi, Julia! I'm so happy I've reached your channel!! Finally there's someone reacting to music from which I can learn!! Maybe it'd sound weird, but Floor is the only singer I've listened to that's able to make me cry with her singing. It ALWAYS happens with Nightwish Ghost Love Score, and... believe me I'm crying again while writing this. She's able to touch my soul!!
She changed it to Girl because she was singing the song for Emma Heesters. The young girl in the sparkly red top. ( A super talented singer, who you should definitely check out buy the way ) Here’s a performance from Floor that you should definitely check out Floor Jansen & RLSQ (Red Limo String Quartet) - Energize Me [Live @ Podium: Uitmarkt, 2009] The Song starts at 2:00 It’s an outstanding performance and Floor sings without a microphone.🎉
Omg, I love this matter of the 12 videos for the 12 days of Christmas :-D. I hope you hear Floor's interpretation of the song "Winner", from that same show, it is for me the most emotional presentation of Floor (and in general) in the whole show.
Floor discussed with the Marcel Fisser Band (which serves as the house band for the show) about how she could approach the song. They came up with this "softer" approach.
The aim of the show is that each artist is the "host" for an evening and gets to hear the others sing for them. Their songs is one of their own, one of the host's (Nemo for instance when it was for Floor) or a song that has a particular meaning. You should definitely listen to Emma Heesters singing "strong" for Floor or Floor singing "winner" for Tim Akkerman (his brother is handicaped) to understand the last point: these performances were far beyond "these folks can sing, damn".
Thank you, Julia. It may be interesting to you that Floors version of the song straight hit #1 on the charts in the Netherlands shortly after the episode of the show aired.
Killing it as usual! Missed the premiere again but good thing is none of your videos are at risk of getting blocked so we're able to catch up. Hope copyright is treating you well for all the rest of the videos you're about to put up.
This is what I love about Floor. We all know she can belt with absolute power. Damn, Marko could wake her up at 3am, say, "Floor, belt Ghost Love Score." And she'd nail that G sharp/A flat note like she's blinking, and roll back to sleep. Yet, what she does with Shallow is pure artistry. She takes a song that is covered over and over in the same way, and gives you a different story. She keeps it so small and fragile, as if to do otherwise would only shatter the bubble she's just absorbed us into. Just because she can belt and be a powerhouse doesn't mean a song requires that. Floor has a way of understanding emotion, storytelling, and the potential of a song to portray a specific message; and she will give that song what it needs to deliver that message, not just use it as a tool to show off her voice. The song comes first with Floor, and that's why she's so mesmerising and captivating.
Watching this.... again.... :) and absolutely loving the analysis. Floor is special, I just wish she had the same audience as Lady GAGA... Both are deserving of recognition... yet... I listen to Floor far more often.
Floor extracts emotions from songs, then injects it back in multiplied. All you have to do is watch her, and you can see that she FEELS the emotions strongly while she is singing. Her ability to belt out full during this song, and still give you a feeling of fragility is amazing.
She did it as a duet too, with Tim Akkerman. There she went all in in the belt part. Ruben (The guy in the black and white shirt) said in one episode: "It's amazing how you can make any song better"
Thank you. From the first smile when you realized where Floor was going with this to the end, you’re a delight to watch and listen to. The desperation vs connection comparison is bang on and it’s really nice to see this side of Floor.
Your analysis is very "understandable" and clear for an uninitiated like me. Like I commented on one of your previous videos , you are good! Thank you!
Floor owns this song now. Very few can even come close to her performance. Emotionally Emma Hessters performance of Strong is pretty close though when she sang for Floor in the same series.
She is singing it to Emma Heesters (the girl in the red sparkly dress) and indeed she’s singing it as a solo instead of a duet, I’m pretty sure that’s why she did it that way

They did something amazing there and it always sends shivers down my spine. I think that might be one of the best duets i have ever heard in my life. You won't regret it, I promise!
She said girl because she is singing the song for Emma.
I think she sang it by accident. Floor makes a face after singing that verse.

They did something amazing there and it always sends shivers down my spine. I think that might be one of the best duets i have ever heard in my life. You won't regret it, I promise!
