Good afternoon, Jeb; I thank you for tuning in along with the comments. It has been good practice for the future Zephyrs later in the spring. And summer. The switches here are heated and have little problems. Not the same for the rest of the rails. I have heard from a reliable source there were over 40 breaks in the rails thru the Brush Sub. The ground crews were really working to get them spliced for now. May be time for new CWR (continuous welded rail) thru the sub. Anyway, have a great evening. Please take care, stay warm, and safe!

Could hold the skating championships for street ice skating here at the hacienda. It is great to read the ice has receded from the walkways back there. Now if I could get the powers that be on the local level to learn to move the snow toward the center of the streets and nor plow in the vehicles legally parked along the curbs. The Great Lakes have ice covering them and ships have been frozen in on them. We are to be above freezing (0 c.) for the first time in 3 weeks here. This industrial section of Fort Morgan leaves much to be desired for the scenery. LOL! I do follow the Zephyrs out of Chicago daily. When their "Track your Train map" is working. LOL! There are a couple other ways to track the Zephyr, and I will check them all. I also watch the Zephyr as it makes a stop at Galesburg, Illinois. I usually depart for the station about 30 minutes prior to arrival. During the cold snap last week, I sat in the pickup absorbing the heat until I heard the conductor telling the engineer what car they would stop the train at and then step out for the capture. Good afternoon, Pat; Thanks for dialing in along with the question. Fort Morgan is one of 4 "Quiet Zones" in Morgan County on the Brush sub. That is more aimed at those engineers who seemingly lay on the horn and don't let off until they are into the next county in either direction. The operator has the option of using the horn as a harsh warning or can during daylight follow the General Orders rules of proper horn/whistle usage. I try to pick up the horn music as they enter Fort Morgan from the east and again as the depart. All depends on the wind direction and other noise pollution. Good morning, Eolafan; Thanks for dropping by and the questions. AMTRAK is facing the same weather issued that the rest of Chicago is facing. It hasn't been just the P42s at issue. There is plenty of other things that can freeze up or burst during the sub-zero cold. All AMTRAK put online about this train was severe equipment issues so it could have been a lot of things that caught up with them. I think a heated car barn and plenty of heat in and around the complex yard would do wonders. Knowing that is not in the cards for that yard, maybe some warm sunshine for a month or two. By the looks of video taken of the lake, and what is frozen there, the warming will take a while. Same is true out here. LOL! Have a great Sunday afternoon and evening. Seems #5 has been chronically late leaving Chicago lately…is this due to increases in P42 failures or something else?
