I had an epiphany experience years ago from attending an evening service. I felt like the improvisation was coming from my own mind. And tbe lesson given helped me to move on in my own musical career in the Chicago area.
Thos IS a sacred place filled with Divine energy.

The mix of people in the procession made me proud to be an American Anglican and a New Yorker.

I love the grand sound of the GDH/AS opus 150-A. That instrument resonates in the space very well.

Restoration of the fine organ is excellent. It suffered a heart attack few years back, worthy "bypass" and recovery. WIDOR is a killer to play. Exponential ELEGANCE! It's rarely seen these days.

Very lavish! But very busy with congregation taking photos, two conductors, dense clouds of incense (lovely) and a cleric texting at 19.50!

yeah, most of us associate glockenspeil with marching bands, where it works fine. Didn't like it here, though. really out of place - even tacky.

I sing in the Chorale at this Cathedral. I wasn't there for this celebration because I was singing in another mass choir for the commemoration of the Life of Martin Luther King and Robert F. Kennedy. It was HUGE. I am glad someone professionally recorded this celebration at the Cathedral. 2018 was a very very big year for choral singing.

Certainly a much more diverse, in every sense of the word, congregation than when the cornerstone was laid. Back then, with exceptions the congregation would be dolled up with furs and couture, and maybe even spats and cutaway coats on the men. This faith used to be the home of the well bred and the well connected, and the social register. That world is almost totally gone now. .Money in NYC has migrated to other peoples and cultures. God is worshipped by people in the modern congregation who back in the day would have been here only as the chauffer waiting outside or the valets, gardeners, and ladies maids back at the manse. Liturgically, those copes and miters 125 years ago would be forbidden here.

Great music. But, the glockenspiel is tiresome on the ears after a while.

    • @bobmcrobertson848

Yeah it it would have been nice if he were keeping the same beat as Kent....

    • @christopherwarner5331

Tritle is conducting a more consistent beat pattern, whereas the other guy is conducting vocal phrasing, so his conducting is a bit more fluid.
