Warriors of Valhal would descend to meet the warriors of Muspel and fight along side the Mortals, in an epic end to the world known as Ragnarok.
Surtur is from Nordic mythology, it is said he will one day rise to destroy Asgaard along with the gods.

The moment they showed a Dio cover I knew that was going to be it if left up to Jack Black. He has history with him, has admitted he played a big part in his music career as an idol and has even done a song with Dio. The only way it wasn't going to be Dio is if they showed the cover for The Pick of Destiny....and even then it still would be 50/50.
I have more faith in Jack Black than to think he'd do something so egomaniacal as pick his own album art, but, I agree with you on the rest of what you said.

The Manowar cover is "very Frazetta" because the artist, Ken Kelly, is the nephew of Frank Frazetta's wife. He was able to study Frazetta's work very closely on a regular basis, and it was a big influence on his own art career. It's funny Jack says it's "very Conan" as well...Because Ken Kelly is actually known for (among other things) his depictions of Conan the Barbarian.

Jack Black mentioned the artist Frank Frazzeta, who's art was extremely popular in the 70s and he mentioned Conan the Barbarian. I'm sure, Jack is aware that Frazzeta did the artwork for many of the Conan series novels. What's interesting is, the very next album cover they showed (Molly Hatchet), featured a Frank Frazzeta drawing that also appeared on one of the Conan novels.

For people who are familiar with the popular Lancer/Ace paperback series (1967-1977) of Conan novels, Frazzeta and Conan are virtually inseparable. One cannot think of that particular Conan book series, without thinking of Frazzeta's art. There were 12 books in that series and 8 of them featured a Frazzeta piece. This artwork found it's way onto posters, album covers and even onto the sides of vans in the form of murals. There is no doubt in my mind that the asthetic look Conan in the Arnold Schwarzenegger Conan films was directly inspired by Frazzeta's art.

I always prefer the album covers like the “Wretched” one to the others. Maybe it’s just that I tend to listen more to the genres of metal that these album covers appear in (death metal, black metal, grindcore etc), but I always find those to be the most metal.
The Wretched album cover for Canibal is a prime depiction of how Khorn, processes skulls for The Skull Throne.

I feel like just knowing a little Norse mythology makes the cover more badass. I like the Thor and Jormungandr battle on the cover of TOTTG but Surtur is the fire giant that kills gods and destroys all of the worlds during Ragnarok which is as metal as it gets lol

Too many think Marvel is following actual Norse Myth, and Marvel is doing anything but.
The fact that Jack Black didn't know who AA is, couldn't pronounce Surtur, understand how metal of a reference that is, or know that Dio's mascot was Murray...makes me seriously question his metal knowledge.

I think the Doom (2016) soundtrack deserves a special mention. A space marine throwing a demon whilst wielding a sawed-off shotgun standing on an island of skulls in the middle of a fiery lake, surrounded by even more demons with a giant demon skull behind him.
It's pretty metal.

I'm actually almost offended they didn't know Amon Amarth, or that Sutr is basically the Norse version of the 4 horsemen.
But links comment, "I'm not scarred, I'm just aroused" sums up how I feel about metal in general.
