i saw somewhere where he was talking about economy of motion while playing. he makes it look so easy, yr right. easily one of the greatest drummer/songwriters of all time.
Bill is one of the greatest to ever do it. We are all lucky to have him around still crushing. Anybody else catch him doing Robo justice with those hi-hat triplets on Depression?
Bill Stevenson is my all time favorite punk rock drummer! GREAT how you can see how he’s actually doing what he does! Now if only there was a video where you can see exactly what Bill does on the process of weeding out......😁
I don't understand why this video has 15 dislikes. Ok, so he's making funny faces while he plays that's what happens when you play as aggressive and good as him. Bill is one of the best fucking drummers to ever live.
Can't lie, not a big Descendents/All fan but Bill Stevenson is one of the greatest drummers ever. And I've heard them all, from Phil Rudd to that guy from Arti y Mesteri (or whatever that Italian prog band is called).
i think its more so who makes it up, some of if not the best in the genre playing music of one of the most influential punk bands of all time. it isnt for everyone but you cant deny the impact that each of these old men have on the genre. without black flag, circle jerks, descendents/all you probably wouldnt have the majority of punk bands today.
@@meinlcymbals my mistake. You're right. He's credited as the only writer. Very strange that it's the title track of a record he wasn't on. The best track on a record he wasn't on even though I still like it. I've read Greg Ginn is shady but that kinda proves it.
Does anyone remember ROBO? Not taking anything away from Bill however, Bill is just doing his best to mimic ROBO's drumming style. He's doing a pretty swell job. ROBO had so many nuances. Black Flag was at their best with Dez, ROBO, Chuck and Greg (my opinion).
MNstorms EXACTLY! www.spin.com/2013/05/best-drummers-list-alternative-music/130514-robo/ - SPIN Magazine Article: ROBO Quote from Bill Stevens: "Descendent Bill Stevenson, broke it down: "I would be the first person to say Robo was the best and most important Black Flag drummer… I'll tell you what it is; it's like punk rock but with this Latin percussive feel to it; a lot of the cymbals work in little groups of threes, and it was totally original."
I only just found this and frankly I'm already wishing I hadn't. I have been playing drums for more than 60 years and regardless of my ability, I am a pretty good judge of skill. In a range of 0 to 100, this doesn't get on the page.
And over those 60 years did you ever do anything of similar relevance as Bill? Maybe inspire someone of such a high caliber as Dave Grohl? If not I wouldn't talk. Especially if no one's watching you play anymore.
Not fucking with them, fixing them. The Tama Quick Set Wingnuts that were on the cymbal stands kept popping off. Last time I used them. Garbage product.
I can see why you would say that, but I listen to Dillinger Esc. Plan, Periphery, Mesuggah, Dream Theater. Offspring, and many others... Even though I do like skrillex (: I just fail to see what's really good about this band, but that's just my opinion. I guess my first comment was a little exaggerated. (;
You'll only like and understand this band if you understand the history of it. Yes, compared to the other bands you mentioned it would all be apples and oranges. One doesn't go from Rush to the Ramones that easy. Punk Rock was about destroying pretentions, which is not to say that it can't get pretentious, as well as breaking down the wall between the band and the audience. Hopefully you can at least appreciate the drumming because Bill could definitely play with damned near anybody but he chooses to stick with the Descendents and ALL, though he moonlights here.
I understand that this is a Meinl pro mo video , and that Bill has always been a great drummer and a great Punk Rock drummer. H O W E V E R !!! Thats not what the average Punk rock drum kit sounds like !! All perfectly washed cymbal sounds like that !! It's a mish mash of stolen shit , broken shit , plain old shit , mismatched shit....therin lies the beauty of it ! Seeing Punk Rock like we are in this video is the same kind of sad as seeing the king of the jungle pacing back and forth in his holding cell at the zoo. The only good meinl cymbal is a stolen one !
I've seen Bill play the drums many times, even back in the 80's and he has never missed a beat. He rules!
All 19 dislikes are from Greg Ginn.
Only one dislike in a year. Not bad
Bill's a machine. Makes it look so easy.
He does. He's got to be one of the most relaxed drummers ever. You'd think he was swinging, playing jazz or something.

It's almost swung I feel like! Shit is super hard to do at that tempo

well, i wouldn't dislike but his high hat in the first song is way off and it sounds meh
@@disappeariancerthat slightly swung hi hat feel is what makes him unique, it’s like a punk dilla beat.
All hail the Drum Ogre.
By far my favorite Black Flag drummer.
Bill makes the funniest faces
Bill has been playing drums since he was 15.
Greatest drummer in Punk Rock.
Bill is my spirit animal
inspiring. he's the man
This whole line up also fucking rules!

Oh my god what are those hi hats called goddamn they sound soooooooo good
Bill doin the Robo!
Bill can do it without breaking a sweat. I tried and it’s practically impossible.
Bill doesn't drum, he just vibes and it makes beats happen. It's incredible.
Bill is so smooth! Great drummer.
People really ought to reevaluate the Rollins era bc there are some great songs off those albums
So glad I got to witness Flags first show in Santa Monica
Loved him as Private Pyle in Full Metal Jacket
It's so cool to think how Keith Morris and Bill have known each other since they were kids.
I swear I watch this every single day
I'm not a machine. In this case, Bill IS like a machine.
perhaps that old Meat Puppets song I Am a Machine could apply in this case? 🤔
Machine is like a Bill
Dude is flawless!!! One of the best
Fucking legend! Black Flag and the Descendents!
you forgot ALL

nice work!
Bills a awesome dude
great style, bring back the beard!!
Brilliant
pretty fuckn good BILL!!!!
He's so fucking awesome
YEH! BILL!
Idk why they're playing my war. I love that song. It would be cool to see played. But thats a greg and henry song.
Technically yes, but Chuck Dukowski wrote it so by rights it's valid for them to play it.

agree
Bill playing style is taken from Robo. Bill sat in front of Robo in Black Flag practice and adored him.

That show was fukn balzout thanks man
Give this man room to move! Hes too good for small spaces
