I own both of these knives , The Sprint run Cruwear Shaman and a Manix 2 Sprint in M390 , The Shaman has a thicker more heavy duty task blade and the Manix 2 a better slicer of the 2. Ergonomics I would rate them about the same how they feel in the hand . Though the Manix 2 still seems a better grip to me but it varies person to person, The Manix 2 lock seems more solid and stronger with a nice snap click lock to it , it feels more secure to me .Both of the steels are excellent on my Sprint runs with no complaints and I think you cannot go wrong with either one ,it depends which style and look and feel you like better of the 2.
Have a bunch of both…Cruwear, M4, CTS-204p, the works. They’re both very good but the Shaman’s profile, elegance and ergonomics squeak out a slight victory for me, personally. Where the Shaman is clearly a Native family knife, I consider the Manix to be part of the Sage/Chappy family of leaf shaped blades with subtle ramping. It’s a mood thing for me but if I had to give up my most valuable Shaman or my most valuable Manix, it’d probably be the latter. That’s how I tend to categorize these close “battles” in my mind.
I have the compression lock on the Caribbean. It's tricky as a left hander. Either you have to pinch hold it,which makes it easy to drop, or another more cumbersome method which involves a few steps. Which makes me not use the knife as much of the draw to a compression lock is fidgeting.
@BARRY COLE Now how is a compression lock comparable with a drum kit? It's more a kin to driving a car from the passenger seat. It's doable, but more cumbersome. Edit: It depends a lot on the purchase you get on the clip or handle. When I use the thumb for the lock I have to do with the purchase I can get with only the fingers on the clip. I have a lefty PM2 also so I can compare. If you have mastered it please please let me know your ways. Atb Dice
Ok, it may have come out as a bit more difficult than I intended. It's still as easy as closing a linerlock, but I cannot do the flickyflick open shut as I do with the lefty PM2.
I have a few manix . my favorite is the g10 with milled liners. The rex 45 and m390 both are the regular is full lined and an oz heavier. Not a fan of the plastic lightweight . soon to add a shaman . great show sir
I have both, and love both. The Manix was still my favorite though, until I had my M4 Shaman reground to thin it out..now it's hard to say which I like more. With the new grind, the Shaman slices better, so it's probably got the edge, but I still love my Manix..enough I bought 2, just in different steels.It's a tough call. Thankfully, I don't have to choose. This isn't The Highlander, so there CAN be more than one, lol.
I’ve never heard of a Shaman regrind. Is it basically like a big Sage now? Or I guess more like a big Native with a compression lock? Interesting. I thought the increased price on Shamans was because of that giant beefy blade. I bet it’s cool though, I prefer the flat slicers myself
@@ryspace I sent it to an independant knife maker and had him regrind the blade. It's still a Shaman, just one with a thinner blade. Transparent Knives is the guy who did this for me and he charged me $60 for it.
@@ryspace I actually bought a 2nd Shaman so now I have a heavy duty one and a super slicer one. Best of both worlds. The Shaman is a great knife at least for my needs anyway.
Um... So I take it that you've never actually handled the manix? Because while it has flat scales, the handle is extremely ergonomic. I've only met one person who thought it was uncomfortable, and she had tiny hands.
@@firstlast2514 lol right? The irony is that the Manix is the most ergonomic knife I’ve ever held. I’m about so sell my 15v Shaman because the shape is hard to get a solid grip on especially the bottom part whereas the Manix has a hump both in front of and behind your hand to lock it in place
