What he's doing is premature optimizations; which is really frustrating and annoying for new players, because it seems like he's trying to solve for problems that don't exist yet.
Regarding germs in cleaned water: IIRC, Germs do stay around. But they die in 100% clean water. But even the smallest amount of dirty water diffused in a large tank allows germs to stick around. You can also kill the quicker using heat. And there actually was a germ sensor, so you know the water is sticking around for long enough for heat to clean it. Just be really careful about ending up with steam by accident. Unless you want that, as a super-quick way destill it.
I think it's amazing he has those two biomes next to each other. He can always take the dirty water to where it's hot, killing germs, then if it's steamed, it will get back to water and bring that water to the cold geyser, bringing it back to the system fresh and clean :).
On the top right just click on the overlay water drops for water. You can now use the extra polluted water to grow reed fiber. Carpets rule { but make them a bit slower }
@Pravus You can mop up that tiny little corner of polluted water that is in the clean water tank. It is weird that you can mop out of a submerged water corner, but you can! Also, the water sieve will not remove germs from the polluted water/clean water. It will produce extra water eventually, and will back up over time if you do not have an external tank to dump into. I recommend either a dump tank with a bit of submerged bleachstone to kill the germs, or a separate standing water tank to hold the excess water.
I just started playing again after years and your point about removing the full non smart battery was excellent. I felt horrible deconstructing it while it was full, but you're right, it's basically a power vampire if you leave it in your base. I don't feel bad about removing it now.
The Electrolyzer outputs 888g/s Oxygen at the around same temperature as the water, but the 112g/s Hydrogen is output at a fixed temperature, around 70C / 158F. The Hydrogen is causing the heat. Also I listen to this in the background while playing in the game. Most definitely I'll learn a thing or two as I play. Looking forward to future episodes of this series!
For my bathrooms, I wind up putting the water sieve in a room right below the bathroom. Pipes go left and up in to the floor below the bathroom from the sieve and waste pipes go to the right and down to the sieve, so I don't worry about crossing over any pipes. For the eventual backup of waste water, I pipe excess like you have into a water storage unit and from that into 2-3 hydroponic farm tiles which are growing Reed Fiber. I have the water storage in case I haven't gotten any fiber seeds yet. This system is to rid me of that waste water. Reed fiber plants don't care if it is germy polluted water or just regular. And if gives me some early fiber. I have a new setup that also includes a carbon skimmer in the loop taking in the cleaned water and pumping polluted water back to the sieve. I used to make my skimmer with its own sieve someplace else. But I figured why do that if I can combine the two into one setup. However this means putting this "utility" room at the bottom of my base or the skimmer is rather useless.
They aren't so much crushing the rocks by punching them, as mashing the button on the machine which crushes the ore. It's like in the Jetsons, working at the refinery is "a push-button livin' but somebody's got to do it!".
A subtle but important difference. Pipes junctions don't split the input 50/50 but alternate packets. For example a stream of 10kg water packets won't result in two streams of 5kg packets. Instead you'll get one stream of 10kg-gap-10kg-gap and another stream of gap-10kg-gap-10kg. Not important at this stage but will become more important when you start trying to balance multiple machines from a single flow.
I don't know if it has been suggested yet, but you should probably get air scrubbers above your polluted water storage before the polluted oxygen if emits brings germs into your base. Or isolate the path to it with a liquid airlock so the polluted oxygen is trapped there. Germs are a pain to eradicate. Having fun watching though. Love this game.
you need to use something like chlorine to get rid of the germs in the water and second, there is a trick to identifying geysers without uncovering them, I believe you use the emergency button
This right here it also applies to the dirt coming out of the compost. This is why your science station keeps getting contaminated and possibly your meallice as well.
The max priority works the notification says the type of gyser but it's a bit exploity the the square that spawns the material is the one to check for over preasure it is 2 right and 2 up from the neutronium(count from the left since they reduced the foot print of some volcanos) it is also the square interacted with to analyze.
Nah it's not included so obviously it isn't needed (thinking is fine it does take time to spread and he has more production then consumption. Just each square he digs up is more space for it to spread and thus a bit thinnertill the production catches up)
A specific tile must stay (counting from left border of neutronium 2 right and 2 up). If that tile alone gets uncovered but nothing else the geysir/vent can be active, so you have to be careful about digging g out a vent.
In order water to move there should be always an input (white square) and an output (green square). So, when you deconstructed the isolated pipe you broke this flow. To fix that you could just build the liquid bridge with green square pointing in the right direction, so it would push the water down until it reaches any white square. And yes, putting an input between multiple outputs could glitch it out and water won't move at all.
You should definitely use Water for Oxygen. Water has been soo much more available since ONI started, in fact I used to make an overflow for Toilet water that went right into Oxygen. If Water can't bridge onto the main line then it''ll take the pipe that goes to oxygen production and while it't won't make a lot right away it can help in the early game. Also food poisoning in the air is irrelevant as Dupes have to consume it through food or by not washing their hands.
You can use the excess polluted water from the bathroom loop to feed a Reed fiber plant in a hydroponic tile. Not sure if you've already figured that out since this is an old video but works great
since i learned about infinite compression of liquids and gasses, I prefer that method, yes to get the annoying notices off thers a mod to help, but honestly some of the mods are fantastic like Chain Deconstruct.. so much time saved, so much less processing the game had to do for Dupe tasks. For things that will always be germy - disable Auto Disinfect on them, it saves Dupe time, and game calculations (which makes everything run smoother) There is a trick to neutronium stuff, use the priority tab and ! priority, and highlight it. itll then give a warning in top left corner for it - which you can pause and mouse over and read, saying exactly what kind of geyser it is. Then set to priority 5 again and the alarm goes off and you know. (also you can min all around them excep their middles, which prevents analyzing them, but this way you won't worry about leaks either )
I have a theory to get rid of heat, if you do not have a (sufficient) cool source. It is based on the idea that invariably you will get more gas then you want form geysirs and other sources (natural gas and coal will add CO2 that was not previously O2 your Dupes used). The idea goes: 1. Make a gas tank for all those waste gasses that you can not process or keep otherwise. 2. Dump heat from the Aquatuners into that gas, either directly or indirectly (using a network of radiant and insullated pipes going through the Tuner Coolant Medium). 3. If the heat or gas pressure is to high, vent the crap into space. You get rid of excess Gas and Excess heat. However, I am uncertain how much gas you will have to keep if you are planning on using rockets - as you might need to transform excess Gasses into fuel or something.
I believe that germs persist through cleaning. I believe there’s a few ways to fix that. Someone mentioned chlorine. You can check the temps that the germs live in. You can basically cook it out with a water heater thing (Looks like a coil. Someone help me out.), but that takes a lot of power and space.
you can check which type of geysir its going to be before digging it up by placing tiles there because you cant place tiles ontop of geysirs: liquid geysir is 4x2 tiles (2 blocks vertically) gas geysir is 2x4 tiles (4 blocks vertically) volcano is 3x3 in the left
Just a time and minor resource saver. Otherwise, you have to break a pipe or wire and rebuild it without "touching" where you want it disconnected. Technically a cheat, but nobody really cares.
I'm not sure Pravus will read this, but it may help anyone else out. Some of the things Pravus will need to do soon or asked about were, overflow management, powerless gas/liquid filters, cooling, germ management, room tricks, and some comments mentioned leaving doors open to allow quick duplicant access. Over flow- With some of the newer mechanics for ONI, bridges can help manage priority for gasses and liquids, plus store excess materials. The trick is the bridges output is now a priority, and anything from the input will either go thru the bridge or get stuck when backed up and no overflow. oxygennotincluded.fandom.com/wiki/Bridge_Tricks cdn.forums.klei.com/monthly_2019_01/5c50d704db74b_bridgesandpipes.png.295ac2def69755d38889e2b33be947ce.png No power filters, these are a bit hard to explain, but the gist is you create a gas/liquid valve, set it to the lowest value of 1 and connect the output to the input in a handle. I'll link the video down the line in that section or edit this later if I can find a decent image url Easy cooling- The main cooling of bases has been with a aquatuner cooling setup, but that requires steam turbines and steel. A newer trick is using the thermoregulator cooling, you fill the pipes with hydrogen, and place a Iron or better block of metal under the building with a radiant pipe as well. The metal block should keep the building from overheating and still allow the rest of the network to be cooled. In key location you will also want a couple radiant pipes to affect different sections. Another trick is when you have very cold water in a electrolyzer setup, make sure the input for the electrolyzer flow thru a metal block or pipe to slowly or quickly chill the gas area.
Germ management- Most will recommend having a chlorine room where either reservoirs or pipes are surrounded or submerged in Chlorine. Using uranium for small amounts of germs is another recent method discovered. I'm having trouble finding it, but with around 3 liquid reservoirs and some odd piping there was another way to remove germs, the gist was by the time one of the containers was ready to output any liquids the germs had already naturally died off. I'll update later the image or video. Room tricks- Several rooms require certain buildings to be built. Two ideas to get you started are several of them don't have to be on or filled such as the water cooler not needing water to apply the buff. Parks just need a room to apply their morale buff, but you can make a key ladder area or a dedicated room. I close off ladder networks near the bedrooms and alongside the inside edge, similar to the picture in this thread forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/109216-nature-reserve-parks/
