Lucas insisted for a while that the movie was ahead of its time, people just didn't get it, and it would eventually be appreciated in the future. The only thing he was sort of right about was that he was way ahead of time in coming up with the idea to adapt Marvel Comics to movies.
As a senior in high school I went to a test screening of Howard the Duck in San Francisco. George Lucas was there huddling in the lobby with some other executives after the screening, all looking extremely stressed, clearly realizing they had a mammoth flop on their hands. Lucas split without a word the second someone asked him for an autograph. The whole thing was pretty sad, as we all idolized Lucas in those days.
WesMordine I looked them up.. they are certainly beautiful, but they didn't quite inherit that certain something that makes Lea so particularly uniquely attractive.

I watched this in the UK as a kid but I don't remember some of these scenes. I suspect there was a lot of editing to get that PG rating. At the time my parents got mad if the PG video they hired had swearing. There is no way they would have let me watch some of the clips in this trailer.

I have to disagree. The Star Wars Christmas Special is one of the worst things ever put to film. It's unique awfulness is not something that can be gleaned by comparison to something polarizing like Howard the Duck. NO ONE who's seen the SWCS would ever defend it's merits.

Howard the Duck does have potential to have a great film. It's just that the 80's Howard the Duck film does not give any justice to the Howard the Duck comics. And let's be honest, Howard the Duck is the 1st feature length Marvel film, it's not established what's the good formula to make a good Marvel film, it ended up a film that test it's waters for future Marvel films. If we have have a great film where a Racoon is one of the main protagonists in the MCU, I'm completely sure we can have a great Howard the Duck film in MCU as well. Haven't you ever thought of that?

this movie was one of the first movies I have ever seen (I am from the eastern part of Germany and we reunited with the western part 1990) and I loved it as a child

The original Howard the Duck series by Steve Gerber is arguably the greatest Marvel run ever.
It is :) Howard the Duck comic are gold. Even to this day, I read them and still have a really great time with them.
Gerber was a genius. The writing he did for TV cartoons in the '80s is also the best stuff we have from animated TV in that era.

I love the Howard the Duck comic book series :) It's my favorite comic book series, it is really funny. I really enjoy the stories. Dr. Bong is my favorite Howard the Duck villian :)
