The Marvel Cinematic Universe has taken over the global box office in the past decade, but Marvel wasn’t always the cinematic gold mine it is today. In fact the very first Marvel movie that got a theatrical release was so poorly received that they waited more than a decade to make another one. That first movie was Howard the Duck.
The movie definitely raises a ton of questions… Like who is this movie for? Why are we seeing all these duck parts? Why is Beverly attracted to a duck? Why does Howard get a job in an adult spa? Why are there so many duck puns? What was George Lucas thinking? And once again, who is this movie for?!

I remember seeing this as a kid and I was VERY disturbed. Like, this whole thing was super creepy and gave me a phobia of Jeffery Jones. Which, in hindsight, was probably fair.

Howard the Duck is actually based on Donald Duck. In the original Howard the Duck comics, Howard looks really similar to Donald Duck.

Something similar happened to me with The Peanut Butter Solution, which I watched so very many times at my after school program and now can never unsee.

My father brought this movie home one Christmas to watch as a family.
Instead of admitting he was wrong, he made us sit through it.
My mom ended her life the next morning when he refused to sign the divorce papers that night.
So when Howard ended up in the Guardians movie years later, it brought back some real deep trauma for me.

To Be Fair Back to the Future sounds rather weird and messed up when you break it down and it was a hit even though so many people thought it would be a Bust
I loved Howard the Duck as a little kid, watching it again as and adult I realized it was quite disturbing.
The disturbing thing is that you were allowed to watch this as a little kid.
The were some really messed up "kids" movies in the late 80's early 90's

Having an actor wear a costume has a beauty and connection that CGI characters can't achieve, imo
True, but the character ended up looking nothing like the comics. It's just not possible to fit a human being into those proportions. The only way to do it justice would be with cgi.

In 1985 I was at a mall in Kansas City and was approached by this research company and asked to take a survey about a movie the was being filmed. The movie was a Howard the Duck. They showed a lot of stills and a rough preview. When asked if I would consider seeing the movie since George Lucas was involved I said that I most likely would! So, I apologize for my tiny part in getting Howard the Duck to the screen. Also, after seeing another preview in the theatre sometime later, I never have watched the movie...

I own several copies of this movie. From VHS to BR. I saw this as a kid and I was blown away! It was such a fun movie with crazy creatures, alternate universes, Quack-Fu, Lea Thompson, great music and fun special effects. It just checks all the boxes! And because of that, I may have grown up into a biased adult because I still think the movie rocks!
I asked for this pitch meeting before I saw the pitch meeting and then I found the pitch meeting so fortuitous

I definitely watched this as a kid. And rewatched it a dozen times or more.
When I worked the night shift at a video store, I put this movie on one night to play while I was working. I never did that again.
Lea Thompson was in Back to the Future and Some Kind of Wonderful, Jeffrey Jones was in Ferris Beuller's Day Off and Beetlejuice, and Tim Robbins was in Shawshank Redemption and Bull Durham, allowing them to remove Howard the Duck from their resumés.
