The Marvel Cinematic Universe has taken over the global box office in the past decade, but Marvel wasn’t always the cinematic gold mine it is today. In fact the very first Marvel movie that got a theatrical release was so poorly received that they waited more than a decade to make another one. That first movie was Howard the Duck.
The movie definitely raises a ton of questions… Like who is this movie for? Why are we seeing all these duck parts? Why is Beverly attracted to a duck? Why does Howard get a job in an adult spa? Why are there so many duck puns? What was George Lucas thinking? And once again, who is this movie for?!

I remember seeing this as a kid and I was VERY disturbed. Like, this whole thing was super creepy and gave me a phobia of Jeffery Jones. Which, in hindsight, was probably fair.

In 1985 I was at a mall in Kansas City and was approached by this research company and asked to take a survey about a movie the was being filmed. The movie was a Howard the Duck. They showed a lot of stills and a rough preview. When asked if I would consider seeing the movie since George Lucas was involved I said that I most likely would! So, I apologize for my tiny part in getting Howard the Duck to the screen. Also, after seeing another preview in the theatre sometime later, I never have watched the movie...

Howard the Duck is actually based on Donald Duck. In the original Howard the Duck comics, Howard looks really similar to Donald Duck.

Howard the Duck, master of QUACK-Fu, has, in the comics, given Deadpool a dressing down for moping about the whole Fourth wall, knows he's a comic schtick.

The more recent run of Howard the Duck was pretty entertaining. In fact I'm only just now realizing my avatar is still the cover of the issue where he escapes from the Collector with Rocket Raccoon.

True, but the character ended up looking nothing like the comics. It's just not possible to fit a human being into those proportions. The only way to do it justice would be with cgi.

I loved Howard the Duck as a little kid, watching it again as and adult I realized it was quite disturbing.

People are weird.
They overreact to violence to the point where blood can’t be in kids films, yet they vastly under react to sexual innuendo to the point where they allow almost anything.
It should be the other way around.
To be honest, most of kids can handle both sex and violence in entertainment and be unfazed by it. I remember seeing those crazy movies as a kid and I was pretty "meh" about the kinky stuff and over the top violence. I think they don't compute things the way grown up people do.

Pitch Meeting is hands down a great investment in time. On days when you're really bored and a movie that got a horrible review comes on instead of thinking 'What the hell, I'm bored' you can think 'I'm bored, but I'm not bored enough to watch this'. A truly valuable service, sir, thank you.

I own several copies of this movie. From VHS to BR. I saw this as a kid and I was blown away! It was such a fun movie with crazy creatures, alternate universes, Quack-Fu, Lea Thompson, great music and fun special effects. It just checks all the boxes! And because of that, I may have grown up into a biased adult because I still think the movie rocks!
So this is why it auto corrects to the word "duck" and "ducking"
Howard the Duck wasn't in any of the other Avengers movies but when he shows up in Endgame the movie becomes the highest grossing film of all time. That's the power of the duck.
He was in a cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy 2

I am glad I only found out that this movie exists through this Pitch Meeting. As an adult. This wild celluloid fever dream would have traumatized the living duck out of me as a child. As an adult though I am strangely fascinated by this distubring piece of cinema and come back to this PM quite regularly.

My brother, our friends, and I watched HtD many times when we were in high school. Yes, it's bizarre and inane and sometimes unsettling, but it was one of those campy cult films adopted by our group. And it does have a notable cast (Lea Thompson, Tim Robbins, and a fine turn by the inimitable Jeffery Jones), and some pretty funny lines. "It's growing inside me, replicating and superseding my internal organs!" "We'll stop at a bathroom."

I watched this movie as a kid in the 80s. It was one of my favorites. Went back to it as an adult, and all the adult jokes made it even better. The 80s was a crazy time.
As I am watching this, I start to remember seeing this movie as a kid, and I had forgotten so much about it. In the end I realise I probably suppressed the memories, as I was far too young for this one.
I saw this movie as a kid. And every time someone says the name “Howard”, I sing under my breath “...The Duck!”
...Then I say, "UHH!"
