I don't usually comment on videos. But my mom's dog was diagnosed with lymphoma 5wks ago. This week was his 3rd week in chemo (we live in France, protocoles might be different). It's suspected it's a T cell lymphoma, and it is stage 5 with cancerous cells found in the bone marrow samples. As scary as this all sounds, his specialist told us yesterday that during the pre treatment exam, he found that the lymph nodes had gone back to their original size, meaning he is in rémission. All the results from the tests they ran in on day 1 of chemo haven't even come back, including the phenotyping (they took out a lymph node for biopsy I think?)
We are so relieved, still recovering from the whiplash, but so grateful for the time we have left with our super good boy Tag.

My sweet boy passed away yesterday afternoon from lymphoma. I wish we had started chemo sooner but the first vet we went to had him on prednisone without getting a proper sample from his lymph nodes. She told us the results were inclusive and that maybe it was a tick borne infection even though all of his nodes were swollen. I went and got a second opinion from and an actual oncologist and they confirmed it it was lymphoma and so were going to start chemo this month but his body shut down yesterday morning as fluids kept draining out of his rear end. All I could do was hold him until he passed, it was the first time hearing him cry since he was a pup. I wish I had found this video sooner and had gotten a second opinion immediately before putting him on the prednisone without a proper diagnosis. I love him so much and I really miss him right now.

so sorry for your loss! our pup has lymphoma as well but it's in his intestine as well as his blood - it happened very fast! We're not going the chemo route as it'll stress him even further and we're just letting nature run its course! Prednisone is helping him get his appetite back and back to his normal self prior to being sick. He's only 7!

@@jeanneleongmitchell1375 sorry to hear about your pup as well, my heart is with you and your family. My pups lymphoma was in his intestinal tract as well we believe it caused a blockage and finally burst leading to septic shock that morning. Please keep an eye on yours and any sign of fluids draining from the rear end as it can kill within several hours. Mine was able to walk and still play up until that very morning. Death from septic shock isn’t pretty and can largely go unnoticed if you don’t know what the signs are.
At five and seven years old they still have so much life and love to give but I think that time is irrelevant for them. Every moment they spend loving us even when we’re away all they do is look forward to the moments they have with us I think maybe they’re here to teach us that. To love deeper than our own understanding.
Going forward I wish for nothing but joy and peace for your pup and your family. I wish that each day feels like a lifetime of love you all can share in and lose track of the stress and heartache.

I continue to share this video. It is so so valuable to pet parents who are reeling from the news their pet has lymphoma and no idea what to do next. And their local general practitioner believed chemo was horrible and ineffective and there was no hope. I just hope information is presented to everyone so the very best decision for care of their pet can be made. It is 3 years old but still a great video. Thank you ❤

Thank you Dr. Sue for making all the informative videos on canine lymphoma. Because of your video, I decided to get my sweet girl on chemo. The treatment made my girl a happy and healthy dog for another 3 and half months. Unfortunately, my girl got diagnosed too late, and the drug resistant cancer cells proliferate wildly in her body and took her life this morning.
But still, I recommend multi-agent chemo to all dog owners who can afford it, and pls make sure your dog have it as soon as you decided.

Our dog was diagnosed this morning. He is a jack russell that will be 15 this year. They are giving him 3 to 6 months. Our vets are telling us that chemo is rough on dogs. It is also extremely costly. Our vet said the chemo would just be extending his life and not getting rid of the lymphoma. We want the rest of the time he has to be good, we do not want him to suffer. They are going to be putting him on a steroid to keep him comfy and keep the lymphnodes from swelling more. We think this will be the best option for him. He also has luxating patellas and I am noticing his knee is bothering him to where he sometimes chooses not to move. So with his age and his knees and we have sort of been battling cancers with him for some time. Last year he had this huge flare up with bumps all over his body out of nowhere and for the 1st time. They didn't come back as lymphoma but as a different cancer. They removed all the lumps that came back as cancer. The surgery was very rough on him and we just cannot do that to him again. He healed up and no other bumps...until 2 weeks ago his neck swelled up, we took him in the next day. They thought maybe it was an abcess in his mouth and treated it like that (there are more details but this is long already). Then that was not fixing the issue, it helped the swelling but the lymphnodes stayed a bit swollen. So we took him back and they asperated the lumps. And here we are. So now i just need to figure out how to be happy with him when I know these are the last months we have with him. We are so heartbroken for our little guy.

    Thanks for the great video.
My 9 years old Rottweiler has been diagnosed with tumor on his spleen 4 months ago and they immediately removed the spleen and tumor. Tumor itself was around 4.5 pound and there was no rupture. On 19th August vet did a CBC test and he said he is doing good all values are great.
2 weeks ago his anemia started again, I immediately realized from his lips became pale pink. I brought him to same vet 8 days ago and he did CBC test and he said most probably his Hemangiosarcoma metastasized and he said there is a decrease from 5 million to 4 million for some value and he also said there is 28% blood transfussion normally it should be between 40% and %60.
His organs are doing fine. His poop and pee are great. He breathes normally. Vet also said his organs are in great condition. He is getting tired more easily and sometimes he is getting really exhausted.
He only rejects to eat his Hill's Metabolic diet food( he has been using it for 8 months because of his Arthiritis)other than that he is eating everything. He drinks good amount of water. His current weight is 90lbs and he has been on the weight since his spleen removal operation. He is not loosing a weight.
I have been using Yunnan Baiao for 6 days. I give him 2 pills 3 times a day. I have 15 boxes of Yunnan. Today I also ordered Apocaps after watching your video. I will start to use it tomorrow. I hope it will not cause a problem if I give him Yunnan and Apocaps at the same time.
At this stage of the game do you have any other suggestion doctor?
    Thanks for your videos.

My golden retriever has just been diagnosed with T-Cell Lymphoma. He is under 3 years old and we are devastated. We couldn't see or feel any enlarged lymph nodes but he had other symptoms like weight loss, constant urinating etc but it was originally misdiagnosed as a UTI and unfortunately was prescribed prednisone before the chemo started. We are putting him through the LOPP Protocol but his prognosis is only 6 months, they are saying it is more aggressive because of his age. I just wish there was something more we could do 💔😪

Hi there. Thank you so much for your videos. My 2 y/o mini doodle was dx with small cell lymphoma today (there was a mass on her ileum, which was completely removed along with one lymph node). They didn’t tell me if it was t-cell or b-cell, nor is it mentioned on any of her discharge paperwork. I’m suddenly paranoid they didn’t run that test on the excised mass. Could that test be run later? Thinking I should call and ask them. Her oncology appointment is 10/8 (2 weeks post op). I hope that’s not too long a wait, but know she needs to heal some. Also unclear if “small cell” means the low-grade/indolent variety? Googling is just confusing me. Thanks again for all you do!

A couple weeks ago my dog threw up and had stopped eating. Even though he wasn't eating he would drink his whole bowl of water at once and make himself sick. His vet initially said pancreatitis. I'm a doctor but not a vet. Within a couple days he became jaundiced. Ultrasound showed a tumor on his liver and diagnosed him with large cell lymphoma. He was so weak and trembling and whining that we put him down within a week of symptoms beginning. He was 12 so treatment never crossed my mind... Good luck everyone.

This past August my Bella turned 13. On Thursday, Sept 12, I noticed she wasn't eating, was moving slowly and with difficulty. She was breathing rapidly even in the house. I felt a lump around her groin and under her chin. I took her for a walk which she was always excited about and she walked very slowly. I read that dogs her size live to the age of 10-13.
On the Monday I took her to the vet and he felt other lumps and said she has lymphoma. He prescribed appetite stimulants and prednisone for inflammation. She improved for a few days with her eating and moving but then got worse. She could barely get up the step into the house and her back legs weren't working well. And would only eat meat or cream cheese. At her age, this diagnosis does not give her much time.
The next Monday, a week after the vet visit, she had trouble walking but nothing really bad. At night she went to sleep on the bedroom floor. I woke up around 3:30 am and she wasn't there. I looked around for her and she had collapsed in a doorway on the other side of the house. I don't know how she got there if she had trouble getting up and walking.
The next day,Tuesday 9/26, she had gotten worse and was not eating at all and and not moving other than breathing. Her arms and legs didn't work. Her head wouldn't stay up. Her autonomic functions were the only things working and blinking. No sounds. It was like she was in a coma. I fed her milk on a syringe sometimes she would swallow, by reflex. In the evening she breathed her last breath.
I've been reading about lymphona. It hits hard and fast and no cure. Less than 2 weeks since seeing the symptoms, she was gone.

Is there an option of taking him off the prednisone for a couple of weeks then start the tests & CHOP? Would that make a difference? Is there anything that could help? 😢

I started my dog on prednisone first day because I assumed chemo would make him suffer like humans do and the vet didn’t tell me that wasn’t true and he was very sick, very weak and couldn’t walk so I thought if I waited on chemo that he might not make it. I decided to consult with the oncologist after about a month just to see and she told me dogs do a lot better than humans with chemo so we’re in treatment now.

Hi Dr Sue, thank you for this wealth of information! My dog was diagnosed with lymphoma in January and we started COP therapy. My vet said not to test for B-cell Vs T-cell and to save my funds for the chemo (even though I had the funds to pay for this information and was willing to do it so I could have more info re his prognosis). Now that he has started the chemo and his lymph nodes have all shrunk, is it too late to find out the type? Many thanks, Charlotte

8/27/2021: Wow my 4 y/o chug (chihuahua/pug) also started treatment for lymphoma in January. We didn’t have the funds for the B-cell/T-cell testing and it seemed like the results were not too crucial for her oncology team so we decided to start treatment right away and skip the testing. My dog finished the CHOP protocol July8th and was declared in remission, but this past Tuesday we noticed the lymph nodes in her neck got swollen again. She saw her oncologist today and her white and red blood cell count was good and her liver was clear, our doctor said my dog is at stage 2 /5. She got a dose of Lomustine and sent us home with Prednisone. We plan to go back in a week to see if there’s any progress and go from there. Today we also asked about doing a biopsy to test the type. Half-way through her treatment my dog got a new oncologist so we asked her current doctor what she thinks of the test. She said the testing wouldn’t really change my dogs treatment plan. I thought I’d just share my experience
9/8/2021: We will be coming to the doctor every 3 weeks and alternate Lomustine and Mitoxantrone until she gets 3 doses of each. We will be finishing the prescription for Prednisone but no refill. We can no longer feel her lymph nodes and it seemed she only have minor side effects from the first round of Lomustine but that only lasted for 1 day. The doctor said she is in remission again! Let’s hope stays in remission!!🙏🏼🙏🏼

@@Mareebearz thank you for commenting 😊 my sweet girl passed away February 6th. We continued treatments and increased frequency until the side effects made her feel sicker than the cancer itself. Eventually she stopped responding to treatment and her lymph nodes would shrink only for a few days after treatment.
We ended up having a doctor come to our backyard and we set up some pillows and blankets to sit together with Roxie. I played with her toys with her, cuddled her, and gave her some carrots (her favorite treat.) We had some close friends stop by before the doctor got there, it was as wholesome and peaceful as a situation like this could be. I read a beautiful poem to my family once she was sedated. She was her spunky self until the last moments, she was still running around and barking in the backyard. I’m glad we decided to put her to sleep when we did and she’ll live in our heart forever. She getting skinnier all the time but still good energy and eats OK but some days not at all ;( Past 3 weeks she couldn't get up twice and that concerns me a lot. But then next day right back to normal and fine. I won't do chemo as it it won't cure it, but would prolong her life 6-18 months but not in a happy way. So steroids only for my pup. Best of luck to you and choose what makes you and pup happy.

If its a large swollen lump they'll do a biopsy $500 just to tell you they have cancer. You have 3-4 weeks life expectancy. Or put your poor pet through chemo and you get 8-24 months. Your pet is dying, don't drain your account and put them through hell. Chemo is $500 per session every two weeks for 10-12 months.. 20% will make it another two years while doing chemo. Let them enjoy their last month, don't make them go though that.

She needs to project a positive persona to engage and retain those who need this message. If she’s not entertaining, it effects her reach. If she speaks without smiling, she will not give people the hope they are desperately seeking.
