Lily Mu he has also stated in forum replies hat he used to record himself practising with a metronome, then slow the recording down to catch any timing mistakes. If he was off by even a hair of a second, he would practise again and again till he got the timing perfect. Now that's how he got so good! Haha
His drumming is complex and includes so many variations, yet so crisp and each note sounds so distinct. Gavin's drumming is so tasty and insanely creative, it is in itself a complete song and doesn't need other instruments. I have observed Danny Carey, Portnoy ....yet Gavin's drumming appears more classy and appeals more to my music sense
I just love that he plays for the song - he doesn't overplay...even on an drum artist spotlight where he technically is supposed to overplay! Wonderful patterns.
This man is an instant legend. There are no words to properly describe his abilities to play tight, dynamically and last but not least, very musical and still very entertaining. Good luck and greets from Slovakia
21 thumbs down as of 5/5/18??? I am 1000% sure that these aren't and couldn't be drummers; most likely not even musicians, and I am also sure they don't know much about this wonderful instrument either guaranteed.
Gavin Harrison has always cited Simon Phillips as one of his biggest influences, but I've always felt like they've had their own unique styles. The playing here feels very Simon Phillips-y, though!
Seems to be a while since he changed those heads. Nice to see that it's possible to get a really good tone out of the drums without changing head every other hit.... ;)
You are amazing and so learnt a lot form your style of drumming....O bought every porcupine tree albums... Topman Gavin...Keep the good inspiraling music for drummers...... TreV from Uk
ES UN GRAN HONOR ESCUCHAR BATERISTAS COMO ESTE HOMBRE... NO ES EL MEJOR " ES ÚNICO"... GRACIAS POR HACER DEL GOLPE EN EL PARCHE UNA MÚSICA TAN TRANSPARENTE
This only works in coated heads, btw. Essentially, you lick the tip of your fingers, hit the drum then slide your finger across the head using a bit of pressure, making sure to not touch the head with your nails.
+鈴木和音 He wets his finger, that way if you rub it up against the drumhead, you can influence the tone while it dies away... Head must be tuned low enough though, otherwise you're not able to influence the vibrations with that little force...
I think I'm sexually aroused. And I'm a straight male. That was so phat I got off my seat and there was a warm puddle of pork fat where I was sitting. I had to have a blood transfusion due to too much sugar because that was too sweet. Rock on master Gavin Harrison. Your beats inspire me like you have no idea!
Ghost notes are probably the best thing introduced by drummers. Fucking addictive
Gavin nevers goes out of time, time goes out of Gavin.
It's even more amazing when you consider the fact that he's stated he prefers to feel the time out rather than count every note.
if he counted every note....drugzzzzzzzzzz
Lily Mu he has also stated in forum replies hat he used to record himself practising with a metronome, then slow the recording down to catch any timing mistakes. If he was off by even a hair of a second, he would practise again and again till he got the timing perfect. Now that's how he got so good! Haha
That snare hits me straight in my soul.
Besides being a monster player, Gavin always seems to have the most perfect sounding kit. Just. Freakin. Incredible.
Every time when i watch Gavin play, i'm hypnotized.
+ceccavara Me too buddy

+VisualPlague simon phillips?
+robTCGZ You must see Virgil Donati...!!!
That snare is the best thing I have ever heard in my entire life.
I really like how you cut to a new angle every 3 damn seconds. Really helps focus on what he's playing and how he's playing it...
most musical drummer around. And not cocky being one of the best. Great great guy!
My personal opinion, is that Gavin Harrison has taken over the throne that Neil Peart has occupied for so many years.
I hate to say it but yes I agree
His drumming is complex and includes so many variations, yet so crisp and each note sounds so distinct. Gavin's drumming is so tasty and insanely creative, it is in itself a complete song and doesn't need other instruments. Beautiful. One of the hardest grooves ever.
This man is an instant legend. There are no words to properly describe his abilities to play tight, dynamically and last but not least, very musical and still very entertaining. Good luck and greets from Slovakia
I cannot believe I have only discovered this incredible player about a month ago!!!😢
there aren't many guys more musical than Gavin.
This is something you can listen to and casually enjoy and then be like, "oh yeah, it has an amazing drum groove".
Gavin is an amazing Musician
21 thumbs down as of 5/5/18??? I am 1000% sure that these aren't and couldn't be drummers; most likely not even musicians, and I am also sure they don't know much about this wonderful instrument either guaranteed.

Gavin Harrison has always cited Simon Phillips as one of his biggest influences, but I've always felt like they've had their own unique styles. The playing here feels very Simon Phillips-y, though!
Crushing the competition! Genuinely Genius!

Meu Deus! Simplesmente genial!!!
+Batera Clube Gavin é a minha principal influência! E esse som de batera hein? Minha nossa!!!
Seems to be a while since he changed those heads. Nice to see that it's possible to get a really good tone out of the drums without changing head every other hit.... ;)

Him, Tomas Haake and Marco Minneman are the best drummers emerged in the last 40 years, in my opinion.
Yeah! A pleasure listen a Zildjian's line mix, a great drummer and cymbals player, Gavin. Thanks for this gold video.
You are amazing and so learnt a lot form your style of drumming....O bought every porcupine tree albums... Topman Gavin...Keep the good inspiraling music for drummers...... TreV from Uk

That fill at 2:32 is priceless.
+Metalmeyer666 Does he lick his fingers?
***** It's for the pitch effect onthe tom, right? Does it work like a wet finger on the rim of a glass?
Very skillful and tasteful drummer!
The sound of those drums....omg....
man so beautifully played!!
Gavin you rule!
I just bought his VIC FIRTH Signature Sticks......man they are really long, thick and heavy, BUT very very nice.....a must try
He is so damn good!
Everything he does is so... tasteful.
Jesus christ that snare is gorgeous
My rolemodel when it comes to rarely playing a solo yet getting praises for my playing.
That was amazing!
Crazy drummer, i like it
Gavin "Haunted House" Harrison, those ghost notes are unreal!
He is the man
Some of the rhythms and some parts of the backing track sound like his solo "The Chicken". Some wonderful syncopation and "rhythmic displacement".
Absolute beast
That tom thing he did xd such a great drummer
Wish i could tune my kit like that
what a player!
notice how accurate his snare strokes are, this guy is a legend
no ones more rudimental nd better thn gavin for sure !!!
Fuck, that groove killed me! That was so intense!
Screw Father Time. I listen to Gavin Harrison!
I could listen to any Gavin Harrison performance without seeing his name but knowing who he is just based on the way his drums are tuned haha
Now, I'm having a hard time getting my jaw up off the floor!
2:00 I want to buy that china, is it Zildjian China oriental Thrash 18"? Thank You :)
It’s a Zildjian 16” Trash
3:00 Is that trigger? Was he still playing axis then?
Gavin was always disappointed as a child never getting that PlayStation for Christmas!
I can totally get that he is a hugely advanced drummer, ok. But how the fuck his drums sound always so fucking perfectly awesome?
+giuseppe bruni Feckin Sonor.
He tunes them.
How did he do that thing at 2:35 ??
Brooks Hebert see him licking his fingers just before? then he pushes them across the head after hitting the Tom to get that whooom sound.
Do you think he is pressing down hard on the head?
This only works in coated heads, btw. Essentially, you lick the tip of your fingers, hit the drum then slide your finger across the head using a bit of pressure, making sure to not touch the head with your nails.
its a percussionist technique
Hey at 2:53, what's the go with that circle rack thing? Whose kit is that?
art. enough said
Wow! What is he doing at 2:35?? that's amazing!
+鈴木和音 He wets his finger, that way if you rub it up against the drumhead, you can influence the tone while it dies away... Head must be tuned low enough though, otherwise you're not able to influence the vibrations with that little force...
+Roeland C.P. Braaksma (SweetWood Drummer) Thank you very much for telling me !👍😆
this is so sick.
2:34 how did he do that??
I think I'm sexually aroused. And I'm a straight male. That was so phat I got off my seat and there was a warm puddle of pork fat where I was sitting. I had to have a blood transfusion due to too much sugar because that was too sweet. Rock on master Gavin Harrison. Your beats inspire me like you have no idea!
I agreed, he is extraordinary. But I hope you showerd,, before you typed that comment. LOL.
