I’ve never really been able to put a tangible reason why Gavin Harrison is my favourite drummer until very recently… I’ve been listening to loads of drum solos and live performances of late and the penny dropped. If you take away all the visual theatrics (I love Peart by the way ) and just listen to the tempo and timing … Gavin is without equal … there is no tempo swing whatsoever! He is drummings atomic clock! Then add back in his inventiveness, speed, dynamics and feel… and he’s unrivalled.
Consistently my favourite drummer. A perfect blend of taste, subtlety, chops, groove, and incredible drum tuning/recording to top it all off.
He's responsible for orchestrating the intricate 3-part drum orchestrations in latter-day King Crimson.

Gavin's finesse and execution of his parts is one thing, his composition of those parts is another. Every note thought out and calculated, every phrase musical and perfectly placed. His parts are so interesting, yet so integral and supportive of the song.
Don't exaggerate! He's basically keep a 4/4 beat.

Playing the drums - basically nothing more than emotional mathematics... but this is so magnificent that it takes my breath away every time. The precision with which the ghost notes are played is unbelievable. The creativity and playful ease with which G.H. plays the drums is out of this world.

I can't judge. I've never liked it either, but because of Gavin's approach I'm loving and listening to prog all the time. And I had no idea of that statement of his haha. Maybe most prog lacks what he contributes with?

My goodness, this is so pleasing to listen to. Gavin is freakin' locked in, clean and creative. I love his always-consistent repetition throughout tempo bars, but always with a subtle change (which also repeats from time to time).
Gavin is my inspiration. He absolutely is number one in my mind. Slightly bumped Danny Carey, but only because Gavin’s grooves are just too damn tasty. Absolute savage and genius behind a kit.

His sound always amaze me....his snare sound 😊....20 snarewires and he cuts off 6 on both side and still an amazing sound 😊..if I am correct. He told to get less buzz. I only get no buzz Wenn cutting them all off 😂

Although I am still not a fan of sonor I just don’t feel his drums project or have enough warmth and body. That’s just my opinion not saying it’s right.

I had never heard of Gavin I am 67 years old and have been drumming since I was seventeen. I have been influenced by several drummers but I think Gavin is fantastic because he plays the drums so well. I have been playing in a cover band for forty years now and have performed drum solo under the influence of Gavin and that was a great success thanks to Gavin!👍👍👍
Perfection manifests itself in various forms and ways. Gavin's performances on drums are one of them.
