The D5600 is my DSLR. I bought it mainly for videos. I've seen many videos and reviews which state that nikon isn't good for video. But what I think that owning one has done for me is help me gain a greater appreciation and understanding of how to really use a dslr. It's kind of like using a prime lens, in the sense of having to get up close and personal with the subject. You are forced to learn allot of basics. So, aside from not being able to change aperature in live view mode, I have no real complaints at the moment regarding the camera.
Makes sense, although I much prefer cameras that let me focus on the creative side of filmmaking instead of overcoming unnecessary technical issues, so I definitely don't recommend Nikon for filmmaking.
I've stopped using manual mode to shoot video. The only things you can change are shutter speed (which is limited by frame rate) and ISO. Unless I have a situation where the light doesn't change much and I want to keep everything the same, I would rather shoot in auto mode. In that case, the aperture is fixed, the shutter speed is determined mostly by the frame rate, and the ISO is automatic.
I love the D5600 for shooting video (and pics as well). I’d even argue it rivals many mirrorless video cameras but with a catch. You have to master manual mode, shoot flat (which is pretty darn close to VLOG 2), and color grade carefully with LUTs. Nothing in the under $2,000 spectrum really matches up with the vibrancy you can get with a D5600.
I don't agree wit that, it is quite poor video camera by 2020 standards, any $700 mirrorless cameras destroys it, $2000 cameras are on another planet. If you mean S-Log 2, that has nothing to with flat on D5600.
The Hybrid Shooter I meant LOG V2. Yes I agree it’s not the same, but I’ve captured some great color depth shooting flat that -in post edit- gave me similar results that are difficult to differentiate with the naked eye. I agree about $700 mirrorless cams but with a caveat. Out of the box, heck yeah they’re amazing. But I often find myself reaching for the D5600. I should mention here that my style of shooting relies less on capturing breathtaking imagery and more on capturing a subject’s disposition, mood, etc. Who knows. I might end up being a mirrorless convert at some point but for now, hand me my D5600.
I think that any $700 mirrorless camera just destroys D5600 without a caveat, out of camera or edited. Flat on D5600 is nowhere near Eterna on Fuji or Cine4 on Sony. 1080p codec is also very poor.
I have only made color grading tutorial for Sony A6500 but steps are the same, it is here: th-cam.com/video/e3L0IRiAwFM/w-d-xo.html&index=1&list=PLXAOglgekGtsvJVXsDwGBzoYZZFjFQAnx

Dear friend , great video again thanks! so for you , what camera will you choose for making videos / movies etc..between those two nikon and the sony a6300 and the a6500 ??
Picture quality of A6500 / A6300 and Nikon D5500 / D5600 is about same, but those are very different cameras, depending on preferences, Nikon has some great and cheap lenses, whereas Sony's better APS-C lenses are expensive and not that impressive in general.
Hi, good video. I am a musician looking for a camera to replace a webcam for live streaming video( possibly with Atem Mini/OBS) and shooting in-studio review/tutorial type videos. Found a D5500 for $280 used... should I go for it or look for a different camera? Would greatly appreciate a reply asap. Thanks!
I have a D5600 and I cannot work out how to shoot video. Is this because the sd card I am using already has photos on it and so I cannot have both forms of media on the same card?
Finally starting to use my camera for video and this was just what I needed to get the quick and dirty run down. Thanks for the vid, it helped me get my video recording setup and running super fast :D This thing was such a good investment. I almost spent the Money to build a $500 Dollar 40k army (what I paid for the Camera/lenses/accessories- a great deal for when I bought it). That 40k Army would have never have paid for itself- basically just a toy that I'd have displayed in my bedroom somewhere and rarely used once they were painted up. Lucky for me, Games Workshop went after Astartes and all the other Independents at the time so I decided not to pay for their overpriced junk and instead went with a nice camera that will serve me for Years to come. Plus I also have a 3d printer to boot now, so I'll absolutely never have to pay that Company any money, I just YAR-MATEY-eye-patch the audiobooks and that's that.

Thanks for the tutorial! I have a AF-S 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 GII Is it necessary to get one of the lenses you mentioned? Or am I better off going straight to Sony?
I own a nikon D5500 with 18 - 55 VR DX lens but when I shoot a video the autofocus sound appears in the video what should I do? And if you could recommend a good mic for me with a good cost the wouldn’t capture the sound it will be great.
I was curious about your thoughts on the built in camera. I find it completely unusable due to the internal focus noise of the camera. As I see you have mounted an external mic I assume you have seen the same issue. Did this solve for the internal noise?
I use the Zoom H1 external mic for all of my quality video, a little more post production but worth it. I have both the AF-S and AF-P lenses. P is really good and takes out the AF sounds but it is quite new and not available or affordable on none Nikon lenses. I use prime lenses most of the time so need the Zoom.
Get a small $ 200 hdmi monitor and the afp lens has better auto focus. What is not covered here is that about low light shooting, Dynamic range and color science which will much better than the G85 and Sony colours are bad.
Display on D5500 is good, there is no reason to buy HDMI monitor. D5500 has poor video codec, G85 video quality is better in every way. Sony has the best flat picture profiles and colors can be adjusted.
I have a questions- I saw the watch Compare video ,I thought G85 it's much deeper . I really care about reality colors . I don't know real colour about watch . so I want to asking which color is reality - I saw the concert video on the youtube, some guys videos light, some gray .some normal. very rare it's reality - just like you living in the concert . So which camera's natural color reproducting the best . What you recommended camera ?
If you want real looking colors, both Panasonic and Nikon have Natural / Neutral picture style, and both provide realistic colors in those mode in my opinion.
Can you not change aperture in live view AT ALL? I thought you could. My understanding was only within the VIDEO mode you couldn't change it.....? But if you are using live view only for taking pictures you can change it without having to exit live view right?
800d or d5600 if can get at same price ? The digic 7 autofocus is way better, 6 frame a sec , 24 buffer raw , better video controls ! Or d5600 slightly better image quality and dynamic range in the low iso but fall off worse at the end .
The Hybrid Shooter great thanks for getting back , would it be fair to say also a lens will help with quality and canon having cheaper and more low to mid range will make it possible to achieve better images ?
The lenses are definitely important, sometimes more important that camera body, but I don't think that Canon has better APS-C lens selection, Nikon makes some great lenses for DX cameras.
hii as im a youtuber, and my channel is about crafting, soo i was looking for good video quality camera, but as u said D5600 is not really good for video, it has a focusing problem..soo pla suggest me the other DSLR for best video.
I'm using Nikon D5500 for my videos in my channel, and don't have focusing problem. What you have to do is just using single servo focusing. You just have to touch on the screen where the spot you want to focus, and done! Love Nikon
@@TheHybridShooter with single servo auto focus, the focusing won't hunt automatically unless you touch the screen or press the shutter button. It's good.. But yea, Canon has smoother auto focus.
Fantastic video as always. You really should try out the Fuji X-T20. Awesome little camera with 4K and great AF-C, plus good low light capabilities and very nice colours. I recently bought the G80 but I didn't like the low light capabilities. Actually, I felt that my Nikon D3200 did better in that department. I also bought a gimbal and I felt that AF-C is very important. I underestimated it's importance when using a gimbal. The G80 and a gimbal wasn't a good combo. I really hoped that the IBIS would cooperate with the gimbal but it made the footage stuttery. I will return the G80 and maybe get the Fuji. It just doesn't have that amazing IBIS for handheld footage and zebra pattern. I also fell in love with the Panasonic app, the menus, the build quality and the overall feel. It felt like a real camera and I really liked the EVF. Oh, it's such a hard choice! But I will return it. I don't have much money and the upgrade wasn't what I was hoping for. I thought 4K would be very important but my computer harddrives and the CPU can't even handle that.
Thank you, I would really like try Fujifilm, but I already have A6500, so buying another APS-C hybrid camera wouldn't make much sense to me and I would also have to buy new lenses. G80 has some weaknesses that decrease its versatility, it unfortunately isn't ideal for everything.
I understand, but with this level of production quality you should get review units! The G80 is a very good camera, but it didn't fit my needs. I already own a APS-C camera and it seems that I will stick to that sensor size. The smaller sensor size meant I needed to buy a speedbooster to compensate, but those cost a lot of money. Or I would have to buy very fast lenses but they also cost very much. It's very rare that i'm shooting video in ideal conditions so micro fourthirds would become too expensive for me in the long run.
I just recorded a band promo on this camera. 1080 x 60 fps. Auto focus single mode and left on auto mode for adjustments. Microphone was the same as this, video mic pro. This may not be a video first camera but it worked well. I put the vid up on my YT page.
Thanks for the information, I thought that my Nikon D5600 had a malfunction with the continuous focus tracking..... thank you for the clarification of the fact that NIKON is a total piece of shit for serious video work.

The Hybrid Shooter- chválim tvoje super videá.

Neither, I would buy a mirrorless camera.
I love my Nikon D5600 for photo but I am so sad that video AF is unusable. Makes me want to get another camera....but not sure which.
Af-s how do you can programa IT
Where can we change the incamera sharpening?
thats a thing?
800d or d5600 if can get at same price ? The digic 7 autofocus is way better, 6 frame a sec , 24 buffer raw , better video controls !
Or d5600 slightly better image quality and dynamic range in the low iso but fall off worse at the end .
The image quality in stills is overall better with Nikon D5600 even at high ISO, but if you want to shoot video, 800D is better choice.
Very helpful, thanks!
What camera are u used right?
Answer me please
Hello. I'm going to own this camera next month. Thank you very much.
You're welcome, although I don't recommend buying D5500 or any Nikon DSLR.
@@TheHybridShooter why what should i buy then ?
Ayman and his friends vas pavepe his reply left me confused
Can anyone recommend a wireless shutter remote for thw nikon d5600 please
hii as im a youtuber, and my channel is about crafting, soo i was looking for good video quality camera, but as u said D5600 is not really good for video, it has a focusing problem..soo pla suggest me the other DSLR for best video.
Depends on the budget, but I don't recommend using DSLR for video, mirrorless cameras are much better choice for video.
Canon sl2
I'm using Nikon D5500 for my videos in my channel, and don't have focusing problem. What you have to do is just using single servo focusing.
You just have to touch on the screen where the spot you want to focus, and done! Love Nikon
That is unfortunately useless if there is a movement in the frame.
@@TheHybridShooter with single servo auto focus, the focusing won't hunt automatically unless you touch the screen or press the shutter button. It's good.. But yea, Canon has smoother auto focus.
Awesome contents. Thanks a lot
slow motion ? 👀 is that good with that camera ?
Not really.
There is a long to way to go until I can request review units 😀If you want to shoot low light with MFT it indeed gets expensive.
Thank you. Very useful video tutorial
Is it possible to record videos of an hour or a bit longer?
No, it is not.
@@TheHybridShooter Any suggestions about what to get for such a requirement?
Sony A6100.
@@TheHybridShooter Thanks 😊
I have d5600 n my quality of video is good but if i upload on youtube its quality is not good on 360 or 480 why
You’re making a mistake when uploading
can you charge and record with this camera at the same time?
No, you can't.
I just recorded a band promo on this camera. 1080 x 60 fps. Auto focus single mode and left on auto mode for adjustments.
Microphone was the same as this, video mic pro.
This may not be a video first camera but it worked well.
I put the vid up on my YT page.
Brilliant video
Whats best for image+video capture 5500(5600) or 7100?
Neither of those is good for video. Sony A6000 / A6300 / A6500 will be the best for that.
For the Sony skin tones and colours in general are the worst between the different brand.
Can i use external mic in it???
Yes
But how to start a video recording, where is button for that
The red little Button.. (red point)
Thanks for the information, I thought that my Nikon D5600 had a malfunction with the continuous focus tracking..... thank you for the clarification of the fact that NIKON is a total piece of shit for serious video work.
How can i download my videos to my pc?
Using SD card reader.
Why I dont have the af-s option?
I want to get into film and I'm stuck at a very serious question: D5600 or Canon T6i?
Neither. Get Canon SL2 or Sony A6000.
Thanks!
How do i make it shoot longer than 20 mins?
Not possible.
But WHERE TO CLICK to make video on d5600?? 🤔🔫
The button with the red dot on the top of the camera.
Came here hoping to find answers to the autofocus problem while shooting video. Satisfied customer.
Good explanation, thanks
You're welcome!
Which is better camera canon 200d or nikon 5600
Neither of those is worth buying in 2022.
D5500 or D5600 wich one?
For me D5500, I see no reason to pay more for D5600
The Hybrid Shooter thx
OMG you made IT!
Not sure what do you mean, but I probably did.
Not U2 and U1 on dial?
no

J' ai un appareil Nikon D5600.
Canon 200d or nikon d5600
If you need video, 200D.
Can I use the same method for Nikon D3500? thanks
Probably, but I have never used D3500
Would help if you spoke a little slower. It sounds like you are speed reading.
Yes, I am speaking much slower in newer videos.
Nikon or Canon?
Neither.
Do you guys think having a camera with only 1080 p is worth it in 2022
No.
@@TheHybridShooter I wanna buy a photography camera and my friend wants to sell it to me Nikon d5500 for 500 but I am looking for something with 4k resolution
I buy nikon 5200 good or no??? Tell mee gys
I would probably say no, it is quite old camera. Take a look at Sony A6000 for example.

sir please tell me why the grains are formed when shooting this camera..please reply...
Focus in Nikon DSLRs is horrible😢
Ahoj. Prosim ťa si slovak?
+Marek Vaško Ahoj, áno, som.
The Hybrid Shooter- chválim tvoje super videá. Cez roky ti prešlo asi dosť fotakov. Preto potrebujem poradiť s výberom nového stroja :) . Natacam interiéry domov a bytov so širokácom Tokina 11-16 +Nikon5200 alebo s DJI Osmo.
Budem sledovat nove videa .Drzim palce
