As a beginner vlogger thank you for this settings it really helps me and after watching this your words will be always in my mind * Always remember we all start with nothing but you can create something.
Like many have said here, your video might have been basic for video settings but after using D3300 exclusively for professional video for the last three years with three lenses including the 18-55 kit lens I have learnt a few tricks from your explanation on white balance (use photo) and manual focussing (using +/-). Thanks so much.
Your channel is so underrated!! This is the most in depth and helpful video I've ever seen for Nikon cameras settings. I'm learning a lot. Thank you! New sub :)
Thank you, I want to start filming and have a D5200, I really don’t want to spend money on a new camera. I would rather spend money on new lenses etc. so thank you again for this.
Hi Peter, I know this is an older video, I'm trying to shoot some video w my D5300 just to play around with video, I have all the settings like you suggest and everything is good, my question is, with the aperture at f3.5, ISO at 100, and shutter speed at 1/50, (ntsc 1080p 24 fps) what do you do if you're if I'm filming outside and its to bright? If I raise the shutter up to get proper exposure I have to move it from 1/50th? if I close aperture then I'm at like f18 or 20? Yes I know there are ND filters, are there any other ways around this? That's the only thing I'm trying to understand, Thanks for all your great videos.
same issue here. I have overexposure when shooting outside in sun conditions with the settings given in this video (ss 1/50 - f 3.5 - iso 100 - pal 1080p/25fps). I understood that shutter speed should remain at 1/50 for video smoothness, iso is at the lowest possible therefore I guess the only thing that can change is the aperture at the cost of depth of field. Nevertheless the settings work great for indoors.
Thanks a lot for this very helpful tutorial. Finally I found solution of my annoying problem, hiss and noise sound when I record video using Nikon D3200, even I used external mic Boya WM4 Pro. Your suggestion to set the audio sensitivity to level 6 out of 20, is the best answer. Hiss and noise disappear from now on.
Hello! super interesting video thank you so much for the tips! However, I want to change my camera's movie settings to manual movie. I live in Italy so I suppose I should use the PAL mode. Still, when I change it, the option to turn manual movie settings doesn't appear. Any solutions to this??
On my Nikon d5000, under Movie settings, I only have sound and quality. But you have frame size/frame rate, Movie quality, microphone, and manual movie settings. And manual movie settings need to be on for it to work, but I can't find that setting. Hope that makes sense lol
Hi just want to ask .videos cant transfer it to my phone because it has a huge size like 100mb above . And it cant go to my gallery on phone ..is it the memory though? Thanks hope ur respond . Mine is nikon d5600
I checked my DSLR Nikon D5300 out thoroughly and could not find anywhere that I could load my 35MM film. We don't film, we shoot video with these cameras....LOL.( Iv'e said film a few times myself BTW but try not to ). I just set up my camera using your settings and hope to try them out soon. Have you tried aerial shooting yet ? A steep learning curve but worth it. I need to pick up a better SD card. Very good video, tons of Info, thank you.
P.S. another thing to try out to keep your ISO down, Neutral Density Filters in various strengths and Polarizers to reduce glare. I'm using them on my DJI Quad, they work well.
Question nikon 1 J5 or D7100 im saving up money and need to upgrade from the ancient D90 for video and audio im using the 18-105mm and 1.8 50mm is the 720p 120fps worth it but the battery is rather small but can be more casual in the streets and access more casual places but will definitely be decimated if a reporter came with other pro seniors
I have a Nikon D5000. I don't have a Manual movie settings option on my camera. The only two options under Movie settings is Quality and Sound. Is there something I have to do to make those options appear?
Thank you very much! I wanna ask if its possible to manualy focus with the ring on the stock lens during shooting movie on a manual mode??! I need to set the focus in AF-S, swithc to M just before recording, and then when i start recording, if i move the ring on the lens will it change the focus?? Pls answer :D TNX
Hey hope you're doing well. So if i wanted to create a video in raw ; is standard or neutral the other name for that? Which one will allow me to color grade greatly?
Hello, I love your videos! They are very detailed oriented. I NEED YOUR HELP! I bought this particular camera-model, and I love it for photography. Still, I’ve been struggling to get decent videos from it. Can you please, suggest to me (us) an adequate setting for video? In particular, I’m interested in setting for vlogging. Every time I try to vlog using my camera, the footage is useless. Sometimes, the image is out of focus. Sometimes, the camera is hunting for focus all the time. In both cases, the image useless.
Hello. Great video. How would you rate the Nikon D7200 for taking videos. I mostly do videos in my studio (sometimes outside), and have a D5200. There is a used D7200 i can buy, for $400, but am not sure if I will gain much by upgrading from the D5200. Any thoughts on this?
Hi, thanks for the vid. By the way, if you were to record video using the "Effect" : Minature , how long could you record? If you have ever recorded in this mode, don't mind sharing on the recording time. Thanks in advance.
It would depend on your SD card but I can record up to 3:00 minutes worth of footage on that mode but I don't suggest using it for video as it is more meant for photos
Thanks for the video. I'm a bit confused about the autofocus. You set autofocus to AF-S, but then manually focus. Why don't you just set to manual focus and then manually focus?
Hopefully this video will help you better th-cam.com/video/Y5E5zPQ3t6I/w-d-xo.html You definitely can! I just don't have the best vision so half pressing the shutter to ensure I'm focused is the better option as I also can't see the LCD screen clearly (i.e. my bad eyes and obstruction from external mic inputs)
Thank you for the Video. I have a question, what must be setting to film a group dance video, all group members must be in focus and in a single frame.
Hi, Peter, Thanks. Here is a question, I have a new Nikon D5600 with a kit lens. My trouble is shooting in a shop type scenes, about 3 or 5 feet away from the subject. When the camera is focused, it goes in and out of focus. Out of focus and then back into focus. The subject is sometimes moving only slightly, and staying in frame. No massive movements. How do I get the camera to just stay in focus on the object and not fade in and out of focus? The back button focus feature is turned on. I have tried manual focus, and single servo settings. Different settings. Just trying to film assembly processes, that happen in shop type settings. Perhaps action on a drill press, radial arm saw, gluing different parts together, maybe cutting on a table saw. Just want the camera to stay in focus. Thanks for any information.
I am a noob concerning to photos and videos, I have d5600, should I put it in 1920x1080;60p ? and if I want to use an extern microphone, I turn off the micro of the cam ? I did not quite understand what u said cause I am not a native english, so, I think I understand level 7 to a shotgun mic, ..I need help
Hello, I have a problem to open the videos of my nikon d5200 in 60i full hd premiere pro I do not read the videos, poll with another video of a drone recorded in 60p and read well, do you have any solution to my problem?
when im recording with my family, and i have my d5300 on a triod it keeps auto focussing and try too find the right spot. So when i watch the recorded file , it is really unsharp. So i better use mf then? btw how do you record when you change position all the time like my child is moving a lot within the camera ranch, will he be unsharp then or ? or will i have a sharp image?
Maybe changing aperture will help I don't really know cause I don't shoot video like ever but plan on trying it soon. Aperture let's in less or more light and changes depth of field think u need higher f number but make sure the room isn't too dark or too bright that could help with autofocus problems. Make sure your iso isn't too high that could maybe help too but like I said idk much about it yet because I don't have much experience at all shooting video
I tried the same settings.. in the outside it works amazing but inside the room everything turns to blue color? Have I missed something??? Please let me know..

I usually go with 30fps and use an external mic with lowering the gain.
If i don't have any external mic, what will be the audio settings in manual sensitivity mode? 10 or 15?
depends on your voice I would go for 10 to be safe
Thanks for this video! It was very helpful!!!!

Quick one, so do you keep your ISO at 1250 or 100? or the most you go up to is 1250 from 100? Or you default is 1250... Thanks!
The most is 1250, anything past without lighting will get noisey. Best ISO is 100 with good lighting will get you the best quality.
