The sad thing about GD is they used to market them as "full timer's rig" and now they say it's the owner's fault for using them for full timing because they aren't intended for that. Two faced liars.
The people running these companies know the stress and potential danger they are causing to families, seniors, and everyone sharing the road with one of their trailers and they continue the runaround. Shameful.
Weekend Warrior got away with this in the early 2000s. The owner literally liquidated the company right before court class-action settlement stuff was due to take effect. The company didn't go bankrupt, the owner closed up shop on his own accord & walked off into the sunset a multi-millionaire, leaving thousands of us owners with defective product. I had to sell mine for a $10,000 loss just to get out from under it.
I feel bad for these GD. Owners, this something that could have been prevented and stopped at the factory level, theses company's all brag about there QC. Programs but how many do they really test? Also they all get to big to fast and the profit margins get in the way of quality!!! To many of them pushed to hard and to fast and now look at the mess they have!!! Thanks for sharing your story.
Grand Design is reenacting what Weekend Warrior did in the early 2000s. Let's hope they don't agree to a court class action settlement then right before trailer owners are to get their fixes/compensation the owner of Weekend Warrior, Mark Warmouth, decided to liquidate the company. Walked away scot free & the thousands of us owners with multi models of defective frame Weekend Warrior toy haulers were left holding the bag.
@@blueoxontherun9188 If it comes to a big class action suit against GD, owners would be wise to use the Weekend Warrior case as an example of what to not allow RV companies to get away with (settlement wise). I feel for all the owners, been there/done that with Weekend Warrior / Zieman defective product.
I had a 310GK for four months. The slides would always "bind" and not work and I didn't know why just that it made me distrust the rig (pre frame failure sensation). At the time I thought it was because the mechanism was underpowered. It was a 2021. I got rid of it because it had so many problems not even realizing that was an indicator of frame failure. Luckily being a 2021 I was able to trade it in for the price I paid. Bought a truck camper and went to Alaska and the Arctic Ocean with it - worked out in our favor love truck camping especially for the travel we ended up doing. edit: ps: after Alaska/Arctic bought a larger truck camper and had a very thorough inspection done. Strongly recommend. We have had no issues and I think part of that is the dealer knowing an inspection was going to be done and that motivated them to do a detailed PDI. The inspection report showed so many things/tests I would have never thought of doing myself.
BREAKING NEWS GRAND DESIGN!!!!!! I own a 10 year old solitude and about two years ago we almost bought the 390rk at the rv show in Houston because we loved it. I’m so glad now that we were able to walk away.
Great video, just the right amount of detailed information. I’m looking for a class A diesel pusher not a fifth wheel, but if I was, I’d tell myself, and all my friends to boycott Grand Design until they start taking their customers and their product seriously!
How can you get out of such position with ALL the customers that are coming out with same issues ? They will ALL have these issues if they use their trailers IMHO
My wife and I want to see the country. After over 40 serving my country and state. We wanted to enjoy life and our great country. We want a small camper under 4,000 lbs to tow. But, we have it decided it is unreachable dream now a days. Can not trust dealers or their workmanship. Due to our age we believe the shop/dealers will just string us along, knowing we can not fight back. There needs lemon laws for rv’s and they need an inspection requirement to be meet.
Every time I watch one of these videos I just cringe. We full time in a 2021 GD Momentum and have had nowhere near the issues that some folks are going thru. Did we get a unit that was actually built well, or lucky, or something is wrong and we haven't seen it yet? Regardless, I feel for these folks and am glad that they are taking the time to put these videos out. It gives pointers on what to look for when checking for potential problems.
Bruce and his wife are a true asset to the Blue Ox team. So happy you have been able to grow the excellent inspections you are doing and showing the rv crowd how important a real inspections is. Great Video!
The makers of all RV should have to hold the note, and after your RV is in the shop for 2 weeks, you no longer have to pay the note. When you get your RV back, you resume payments after 60 days so you can camp test your RV. That would up the makers quality acceptance, and what leaves the factory.
One of the first videos I remember seeing about GD frame problems was Millers in Motion's video about their rear kitchen model. They no longer have that unit after going with a toy hauler from Alliance.
Unbelievable. I had a 2014 Lifestyle LRV fifth wheel. What a great frame. Very robust. No one wants to pay the money to build a better mouse trap. Pitiful.
I enjoy all of your videos. This one was one of the best. Having another inspector talk about the issues he personally is having was eye-opening. I feel for him and the other GD owners who are getting the run around to get their rigs fixed.
Wow, and we were going to try the buy a GD, hmmm, might not be a good ideal now we just keep what we have, a Jayco North Point but not really sure if that is any better, so far so good those.
Is there a point at which the frame manufacturers become responsible for allowing the RV manufacturers to put poorly designed chassis’s under these rigs?
IMHO between the 3 big frame suppliers like Lippert, BAL and Roadmaster...it is an ethic they don't seem to care about. Again, it all about greed 🙄 nobody really cares anymore and accountability is a fable from the past I think 🤔
I’ve learned so much with your videos. Thank you! I’m thinking of having an inspection done on our 2022 Keystone Sprinter even though so far we’ve never had any major issues. The reason I’m thinking of having an inspection done is for proactive prevention. We’re NOT going to sell/trade our 5th wheel because we’re old, don’t full time camp, not taking a chance on buying a different camper, and we like what we have. Pierre, question: why doesn’t keystone put a collar around the pin box? There’s a finger width gap between the fiberglass and floor of where the pin box goes into? Like Alliance does with their 5th wheels? I asked Keystone and they said, it doesn’t need it’! Well, I see future possible water intrusion. So a friend of mine who works at Alliance (who pointed this out) is getting me the collar to put on. Same pin box product, same dimensions.
We hired an excellent couple out of Tennessee. I went to look at the rig so I could see if there was anything that might catch my eye for something major wrong. I didn’t find anything so we hired the couple to go over and see the finer things that my untrained eye could not catch. Now we are waiting for the dealership to fix it.

I think quality overall has declined & it’s not just covid stuff . . although that added to it!! Never had any frame flex or pin box issues . . .
The more I watch about these issues, the more I'm convinced that the industry simply doesn't have the design, engineering, and especially construction abilities to deiiver these large take your home down the road models at the price points they need to be at. Are there some manufacturers who can throw price out the window and achieve it? Probably, but the conventional volume producers sure aren't there yet; and I don't think it's malice on their part, they just don't have the capital that someone like a Ford or GM has in the automotive industry.
@@BruceCrittendon They would need to overbiuld the frames and hire master welders and then inspect all their welds, that would fall on Lippert, but they're supplying what the Mfg. orders. GD would also need to slow down the line and make sure they're using the proper size lag bolts and make sure that all the holes are being used, the frame and walls work together to form the structural integrity.
Again, people keep writing and calling the highway safety commission to step in fine these companies huge dollars for the crap they’re building in the dangerous conditions that lead to accidents and people getting severely injured or killed people better keep complaining keep writing your congressman. The problem is: It is too real!
My! That was an eye opening interview! How sad that the industry has gotten so bad...
Way more common than you can even imagine. We have sooo many personal acquaintances that have these conditions on their units. It is pathetic 😒
It is all about the bottom line. Where can we cut corners.

Deflect. Point fingers because you are guilty 🙄
Very good interview. Having an ASE technician explaining the details associated alignment, camber, etc. was very valuable.
Some rv dealerships won't take these Grand designs in on trade.
Do you realize the value of a GD used or new right now?
Hi Pierre, Laurel, Bruce, and Leslie. It was nice talking to you in May at the meeting.👍
The pleasure was all ours!!!
The people running these companies know the stress and potential danger they are causing to families, seniors, and everyone sharing the road with one of their trailers and they continue the runaround. Shameful.
I'm with you. Most of them don't even own an RV.
We want all owners to be aware of what the potential failures are...

Essentially, these are built to stay in the yard and avoid the road!!!
Put cement blocks strategically under the frame and look at it 🤣

Grand Design would have to fold if they did the right thing. Might have to anyway. Great Marketing can’t cure this. This is disastrous.
I can't imagine their way out either...it will be interesting how Winnebago is going to come out smelling like a rose out of this one 🤔
Is Grand Design own by Winnebago and Winnebago is a Canadian company?
