Y-3 has been around forever but it's just so underrated in sneaker culture. I'd say it's one of the only brands that get really creative with designs. I think a lot of people dismiss them for their crazy retail prices but aren't aware that they go on massive discounts all the time.
They do, but in this current market where nearly everything can be had for a discount, it’s hard to choose Y-3. But yes, I’m a big fan of their designs. They can go wild but still wearable.
@@flimgenco I'm not sure what are you referring to by "everything can be had for a discount" when people happily pay insane resale prices for jordans and whatnot
@@Draphcone a few pieces have resell value, yes. But most Jordans released now are just sitting. You can get the Royal Reimagined for almost 50 off. Same for every GR OG Low, and even the 85 Lows are sitting. Same for the vast majority of Adidas and New Balance models, and we’re not even getting to the smaller players yet. Which is why I said “nearly everything”. Not “everything”.
Spot on. I’ve been a sneaker head for decades and I only just discovered these because they weren’t delivered locallly. I’ve already ordered 6 pairs of YY adidas collab sneakers.. absolute art for the right people!!
I like this format. Having lived in Japan for three years, and at the time knowing nothing about Y-3, giving the general population a little history and context, is a worthwhile endeavor.
Most of y-3 always feels like trying to be futuristic but not yet getting ther. This one actually really looks casual and stylish. And not the same old plane jane old simple and cheap looking adidas retro.
Several years ago around 2018, I managed to cop a Y-3 with the Ultraboost midsole and outsole (Continental), but with a unique upper, for maybe 50-60% off. So basically Y-3’s take on the Ultraboost, but at the (full retail) price of an Ultraboost. Good deal back then. These days when pretty much anything can be had for under $150, whether Jordan 1’s or 990’s, I struggle to see the value of Y-3’s even at a steeply-discounted price point. Then again, I might just be too poor for his target market 😅
Great review. You did a decent job with the summarized history of Gazelle and Yohji - and I’m a sneaker history nut. One additional thing about the two Gazelles is the 1968 redesign happened simultaneously with the designing of the Mexicana. adidas dropped the Archive Program 600.J.1.500-518 in 2022. One of the Gazelle twins is for cross-fitness (Red, Vintage) before cross-fit became an organized sport while the other is for handball (Blue, OG, Indoor). The Gazelle expanded the bright colorways, and they continue to go crazy today. I write a lot about the history side of sneakers. I’m considering one of the Y-3 Marathon TR colorways at a discount. I owned Y-3 clothing through the years - the materials and construction are very high quality. The care and consideration is tangible/visible. Thanks for fitting Y-3 into what you do. ✌🏽💙👟
I'm surprised you didn't speak on the reason for the loose threads, I picked up a pair & was considering cutting them off but changed my mind once I learned what it meant to the shoe. $330 retail is a little insane, I happened to catch a sale on bloomingdales for only $156 ! Love them
Love the history of it, a review of something that not the usual. High respect for Yohji, they did a diffrent take on Sashiko on this. Usually nike do a blue denim and cross stitching on thier Sashiko. This one is a different take and the fact that it is made by Yohji is a plus. And the materials in Y-3 is actually pretty great.
I bought Y-3 Centennial High on sale the other day. They are very chunky in a good way and great quality, bit hard to style it though. Still I really like them.
Wow the Gazelle 2 was one of my daily shoe's way back in 2013 and you showed my exact suede Blue colorway during the history lesson. Definitely not the comfiest shoe, but stood out from the rest on the clearance rack to me at the time 😂
Newest pair of Yohji's are the 4D collection. Really good design, knowing the combination of fashion with computer design on the sole make it a win! Gazelle, prefer the Gucci line over Yohji's design. Have a few other Yohji's as well as CO-JP line of shoes. Like that they are exclusive (usually) to the Japanese market. Some CO-JP shoes are really somewhat one of a kind. Just my take, been an Yohji fan for a while! Does this make me as old as Yohji? 😊😊
Premium materials like leather and seude, smaller production numbers, innovative avant-garde designs. That's why they are obviously more expensive. Y3 offers great quality though. You feel it when you wear their clothes. Compared to what high luxury brands like offer, i think Y3 has very reasonable prices even at full price
I had it right... like 20 years. I remember the mid 2000s before 2008 Y-3 was starting to be known among us sneaker people who were looking at shoes all day. I own over 400 pairs of shoes. Never owned Y-3. Never owned Yeezy adidas... the stuff doesnt speak to me
The new y-3 without the threading looks way better but the price point is still a little too much for my wallet besides that they are a nice interpretation of some of adidas models
Realistically they do likely use slightly more premium materials but they are closer to a 170 shoe. Heck some of the Pharrells are better design/materials.
Have a good day eveyrone! FYI adidas has a sale right now, Save $25 on $125 at adidas w code ADICLUB bit.ly/3kS83yr
Y-3 has been around like 15 years at this point. We can put respect on its name.

Bought them for 135 at LVR 😅

Love the history lesson🙌 great video man

Y-3 qasa is such a legendary sneaker model from the modern era... there is a pro model aggressive skate modeled after it. Eugen Enin carbon free.
Saw these appear on websites, but didn’t feel them. Seeing them on your feet, I think their awesome. (As is often the case with adidas shoes)
These are absolutely gorgeous IMO, just not a huge fan of the loose stitching specifically

Great review. Loved the history lesson too
When even 007 wears Y3, you know the brand is special.
Y3 has the best material that’s why it’s expensive
I bought Y-3 Centennial High on sale the other day.
They are very chunky in a good way and great quality, bit hard to style it though.
Still I really like them.
im glad you got these, high fashion is really nice but too expensive but when they collab with street/ big brands it gets cheaper
Please review the Y-3 Country sneakers. The leather quality is so good on those!
What are the shoe at 1:08?
You didnt talk about cushion and comfort.

Long story short, the high premium is due to…. Fashun?!? Yup checks out
this one of the prettiest shoes you can get right now
2:58 4:56 Jumpscare moments!

I thought Y3 meant 'YE'
I like some of his designs but just too expensive
They go on discount all the time. The price of Y-3 still isn't anywhere the price of the resale on hyped sneakers.
150 not more than that it’s just high fashion.
$130 on saks5th... got mine from there last week... 😂
Why those Y3's? Those are just like their Adidas counterparts, and there are Y3's that are unique to the brand.
🔥🔥🔥
Gotta recoup the Yeezy $
Competition for onitsuka
The new y-3 without the threading looks way better but the price point is still a little too much for my wallet besides that they are a nice interpretation of some of adidas models
"de-embossed" 💀
It looks like they don't fit you well; they seem too large.
I'm only here for sizing advice, and there's none!
Realistically they do likely use slightly more premium materials but they are closer to a 170 shoe. Heck some of the Pharrells are better design/materials.
The shoes are cool but they are a $70 retail shoes, let’s be honest
Nope.
Not $300+ but also definitely not $70 either
@@jonathany10 why? Regular gazelles should be like $35 if we are being honest…double the price sounds about right
@@younggotti8195 there is no set price on art, my boy.
Beside the name these trash definitely should be under $100
bro it pains me to see you swimming in the shoes. At least do some research and get the right size if you are a content creator about shoes.
Look like some dammn old ancient fossil sneaker that somebody dug up 😂
Hyped bs . .like
Off white .
Travis .
Etc
Y-3 are going downhill...
