Your Honda reminds me of my very first mode of transportation my dad bought me when I was a teenager a brand new 1981 Honda Express and gave it to me as a surprise and I was surprised LOL me and my friend took that thing everywhere even though it was made for one passenger we could have pillow on the back and he would ride with me and we were both pretty heavy guys in that thing took us everywhere
This little bike reminds me of my first bike. I had a 2000 Honda Elite 80. It was a 4 stroke though. When I bought it, it had 17 or so miles on it. The only reason I bought it was because for one, I thought it was pretty cool looking and thought it looked like something out of a Sci-Fi movie and 2, I needed a mode of transportation. I put over 10K miles on it until one day I killed it. Forgot to put the washer back on the oil screw and it lost all the oil and the engine seized up. Ended up selling it for $150.00
Had this exact one back when I was a kid. I saved up my summer time work money for it! I think i payed around 650 bucks new for it. Me and all my friends had these. One friend had a 85 and the rest of us had 86s . I had 6800 miles on mine and traded it for a aero 50 .
What I do to keep my fuel from gunking up in the winter on my Sprees, is the last fill up of the year, I use 1/2 91 octane Premium and 1/2 VP-110 racing fuel. Fill your tank up with it, this also help prevent rusting. Then, first start/ride of the year I'll run it till the fuel runs low then switch back to normal gas. I do this on all my bikes including my motorcycle. Also, you say you are running premix. I don't recommend doing that on a Spree unless you are using a BBK. The oil injectors will typically have 2 things that go wrong with them. Either the filter just under the reservoir gets clogged, or the O-ring on the inside has deteriorated, which these days is not too uncommon. Anything rubber will naturally deteriorate with age, so the 30+ year old ring on the oil pump could probably use a good changing. You can get one for a couple bucks at most Honda dealers. The main thing to remember about owning a Spree, is it is very important to use a clean and properly oiled filter in the air box otherwise it won't run right. For tires I recommend some 2.75x10 Kenda. It's a bit wider than stock so will help traction a little more. My 86' will do 52mph. If you are interested on how to make a Spree perform better, you can read my write up on them here: hondaspree.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=34653
Nice I wish mine had a kick start. I also got mine from a swap meet. Traded an old ford break- out box for it and stuffed it in the trunk of my dads 58 impala. It is a good bike. The belt gets oily from the drippy carb so iv got to clean it sometimes. I wish they made the cover more easily removable to access the carb. Also I think you can change the rear end gears to get more top speed. From a pw50 I think not sure
I have one of those chinese 49cc TaoTao 4 stroke scooters, and I love cruising around on the thing. Brand new they're under $600, and I can do 40mph on flat roads and keep up with traffic around town. The 100mpg doesn't hurt either!! Or the fact I don't need a motorcycle license to ride it.
What you often get with bikes with automatic oil mix systems if that, when they sit over winter, the fuel in the carb evaporates off and just leaves a collection of oil in the carb, hence why you get a lot of oil smoke the first time it's run for the year...
+justsomeguytoyou Yes, pulling that oil into the idle circuit certainly won't help the idling but once it's pulled more fuel through to dissolve the oil it got better...
To think i almost was down to choosing between one of these (an 86) or a Kymco 50cc. that had no title. Back at home after the Kymco misadventure i was pretty discouraged. Until that is, i happened across an 80 Yamaha XS1100. He wanted $750. I messaged im via FB Marketplace where i saw his ad. Within 2 hours he asked me to come check it out and that my $500 would be accepted as the new improved price. Actually, $480 was the final price as he handed me back $20 with apologies for the low state of the oil and gas. Couldn't have asked for a better deal. Bike is a bit weatherbeaten. Far from a garage queen but it runs great with no glaring faults. Not even those that typically plague this model.
The Spree were not known for speed but then how fast would you really want to go on those tiny tires! What's the story on Kawasaki? It looks like an LTD 1000, about a 1980 or so.
upside downdog Check out Jack Cecil's channel for sick car content and a couple of ridiculous scooters. I forget the brand but he has a scooter that is faster 0-60 than a Ferrari with footage to prove it. Cool shit.
Because of your previous Spree video, I went and bought one this past September. The one I bought had idling issue from the beginning but I could at least ride it. After a couple hundred miles, it roasted off 2 belts and then the piston seized because the oil injector was clogged. I got rid of it and bought a brand new Honda Metropolitan, which is basically like a modern Spree.
I've been loving my Metro since I rode it off the showroom floor! It currently has about 500 miles on it. I took it on a 120 mile round trip visiting friends during memorial day weekend. Not an issue!
If anyone noticed how he was careful touching and moving it there in the tent.... Snakes and yellow jackets luv to live in and around these things here in the south...
Old Car Alley Its just a neat-o thing to have. Fun to cruise around the neighborhood and stuff. Terrible if its your only form of transportation though lol
Sweet! I've always wanted a little 50cc scooter. $150 is a great deal. I think I'm going to keep an eye out from now on. Only problem is I'm 6' 3", so I'm not sure I'd be too comfortable on it...
I had about 10 sprees at one point parted them out the biggest problem was the automatic choke. I like my 88 Yamaha Razz fro the choke. I also premix even.
Love your summer toy Jay. That little Honda will run forever, small and basic engine without to much components ....btw you must patented your starting fluid, coke bottle with tire shining spray nuzzled ..lol. Drive safe the little mosquito fogger. ;-)
*That's different than the spree i am used to the one i had back in the early 80's was more like a bike frame called the exress NC50 wasn't all that fast but i didn't have to have a license to ride it either*
Kelly Davis What the fuck are you!? Damned weirdo! I've seen you on numerous channels and you only post this comment. Daily. For months on end. You're damned strange.
a good trick to keep your carburetor from gumming up is to put super unleaded makes it run a lot better cuz it has a cleaning additive that a lot of the cheaper gas don't have plus it'll give it a little more power should try it and all your cars I always put super in all my vehicles a lot of people say it's the same stuff
cough cough cough Great video cough Jay. You should have cough pointed the exhaust cough into the shed cough, and it cough would have taken care cough of the mice cough cough and anything else living in there cough cough.

Picked up a Honda elite 80 at a police auction. Love it! Besides looks cool next to my Road King!

Cool little moped
TIL mopeds have pedals and in some cases subvert scooter laws
Wow, I had one of these when I was a teenager! Brings back memories! Fun little ride.
I remember riding these and the elite 50 as well as the Yamaha jog 50 when i was a kid..

No doubt also why it didn't want to idle very well at first
+justsomeguytoyou Yes, pulling that oil into the idle circuit certainly won't help the idling but once it's pulled more fuel through to dissolve the oil it got better...
I would think it has a petcock, turning it off for storage may help which is a good idea for all machines equipped with one.

The bike is a 1981 Kawasaki KZ 750 LTD. Ive had it for awhile now , but I haven’t rode it in a few years.
Jay Smart
The predecessor to my 1985 750 turbobike...a real beast for the eighties! Tough engine.
you should look into a honda silverwing you can pick them up pretty cheap and they will do highway speeds

Trance88 I hate to hear the spree didn’t work out well, However I do like the metropolitans! How has it been for you ?
I've been loving my Metro since I rode it off the showroom floor! It currently has about 500 miles on it. I took it on a 120 mile round trip visiting friends during memorial day weekend. Not an issue!

Have you thought about LED lights for this Honda? It'd save on power.

What would be the best way to contact your scrapyard and inquire about vehicle parts?
Billy Brewer we do not ship. We do not paypal, sales are in person and cash. If your not a local I cant help you.
Jay Smart I’m in Murrells Inlet SC and I don’t mind driving a little bit, but do y’all have any 2.5s from a square body S-10.

Hellllll yeah I just got me a 1987 Honda elite 2 stroke she a quick lil scoot, paid $160 with 600 miles on her

Have you ever considered an LED bulb conversion on it? Wouldn't even need a battery then and the lights would be a lot brighter than stock!
I have a 1971 Suzuki 90 that I need to get running, one of my many projects.
Also is MOPED the only thing you need for a license plate?
Love your summer toy Jay. That little Honda will run forever, small and basic engine without to much components ....btw you must patented your starting fluid, coke bottle with tire shining spray nuzzled ..lol. Drive safe the little mosquito fogger. ;-)
Make more will it run
