Man, I put so many hours into this game as a kid. This game was sick. The artists who drew the drivers did such a great job.. the announcer is hilarious, the pixel chips flying off cars as they smash into each other is so good, not to mention the soundtrack. Time to play this game again, play the old burnout games and then wreckfest to get my derby fill.
Back when I was very little, I watched my family kick a crap ton of asses in this game. The soundtrack was godlike, and the sound design, especially the crashes. Whenever you rammed another racer, or if it happened to you, you will have felt it right through your TV.
You can even load up the PS1 BIOS by turning the system on with no disc, then after selecting CD Player and pushing the O Button, placing the disc in and letting it read. You will then be able to use the Destruction Derby game as a music CD! 😁
This is the 1st game i bought along with my new playstation in 95. So many memories, played this non stop. Twisted Metal was my 2nd game, another fun one back then and still fun today. Games today have lost character and any thought
My grandfather and I would play Destruction Derby, and it was his favorite game because he’d always destroy me. I got mad one day and powered it off. He convinced me to turn it back on, and while choosing our player names he asked me to put “Winner” as his player name…I purposely misspelled it to “Wiener”. We laughed for what seemed like an eternity… and he went back to beating me. What I’d give to have those times back.
For Crossover and Cactus Creek courses I played "blocker." I back into the intersections backward killing cars. When they all die, I just putter and finish first getting 80+ points each. It was funny.
have to remember this come out in 1995. was pretty much a few years after the rave scene had peaked but jungle music was at it's height in 1994/95. Had a massive influence on game soundstracks
Loved this game and use to play it all the time back in the day! The trick on 'The Bowl' is once your car starts smoking, drive in reverse, your car will never die!
brings back so much nostalgia when I hear watch them barriers they will only slow you down he won't forget that in a hurry get outta my way ;in a Brummie accent
I just got Wreckfest a few days ago. I bought it because Destruction Derby was my 1st Playstation game. Both are great games if you are into demolition derby.
Remember my dad and I buying this from HMV back in the day! Many glorious hours spent wrecking the over cars trying to get 360 turns! The good old days!
Clearly so much fun in the gameplay, so fast and frantic, with such amazing sound effects and songs. Games like wreckfest will never understand what made games like this great.. DD is just such relentless fun, with barely any downtime! Other similar games have huge periods of boring uneventful driving.. DD has none of that. Long live the king
Nobody asked me but I think comparing this to Wreckfest is a bit of apples and oranges. Wreckfest is satisfying for different reasons, being the insane body deformations and more realistic physics. This game shot for high octane, never a dull moment arcade gameplay, and simpler yet satisfying impacts.
I recently finished the game myself. I played Stock Car Mode, because I'm more the guy for a race to first place. I would be lying though if I said it was easy, because it wasn't. The AI are extremely aggressive, especially the guys in your own division receive a boost, and drivers from other divisions deliberately try to stop you from winning, making overtaking a pain. And don't get me started on the obsolete physics of this game. I only won because me and The Skum destroyed both of our cars on the final lap, but because I was second place when Psycho crossed the line and Skum was 6th, I still won the championship. Overall, a very difficult game, so I have massive respect for people that win in Wrecking Racing, because spinning out opponents without spinning yourself is nigh impossible. On the other hand though, it's a very fun game with an awesome soundtrack, and I always love coming back to this here video. By the way, I also chose the blue car, because it looks the best, especially with the black roof in Division 1. ❤
Nice video. The AI was pretty good in this game, a lot of the drivers had their strengths and weaknesses but the results didn't always end up the same so some of the strong drivers could sometimes be relegated in the weak divisions. In DD2, it was much less interesting because what the other drivers did on the tracks didn't really seem to matter, some of the opponents were throwing themselves in the big hole at the start in the death bowl and were magically earning 200 + pts each time, haha.
stay outta my way/begginers luck wimp!/watch those barriers, they will only slow ya down/eat dust/oh no your cars wrecked/yeahhhh woohoo! I LOVE ALL THE COMMENTS AND THE MUSIC TO THIS GAME IS EPIC.
Thanks for posting! Interesting to see on how much I was missing out in terms of gameplay features by playing the MS-DOS port back in the day. Choppy framerate, less track detail, only 16 cars on the grid, car damage not as detailed etc...
Jesus the memories the music. The race at 26:00 something minute mark, tht song stuck with me for years. I just couldn't figure out which race game had it 😂😌
Obviously DD2 had much better graphics, but it didn't have the same appeal that this original game had. To me, the fun part of DD was the intimacy of the tracks. You couldn't help but trade paint almost constantly, whereas in the sequel, you could get out ahead of the pack early in the first lap and never see another car for the rest of the race. At that point, it just became a regular racing game. I feel like that has been a long-standing problem with most demo derby games, although Wreckfest has got the feel down better than most, it also still feels more like a traditional racer with destruction elements than it does a demo-focused game.
whats the name of that company @0:27??? i remember that logo from other games, but i can't make it out... psyknosis? edit: oh that was it, they made lemmings :D Psygnosis
If not for this, we wouldn't have gotten the much acclaimed Burnout series. Burnout 3 Takedown, I consider to be the best video game of all time, not just in racing.
+Randy Dubin That is so wrong. The only way i can imagine to make thinking that is either to have never played the game or to have never played the sequels. Those sequels were suffering of the same problems as modern days games. Great graphics and sound, throw the gameplay and fun out the window. i am one of the dumb people full of hopes who purchased one of the sequels. i was so sad when i realised that i should have kept my money.
Everything thing about this game is ace if that music and the announce was in wreckfest it would make it even more better hell even add the cars and tracks which they mod on the pc and This game is awesome link up with the hidden track and all so when you play championship there are track you get to play which you can't when just doing single races
"GO!" "It's the final lap!" Positions: "Third Place." "Second Place." "Nice Moves!" Crashes: "YEAH!" "WOW!" "WHOA-HO!" "Wow, that'll make a great replay!" "He won't forget that in a hurry." its games like this one that made the psx so huge back in the days

This is one of the best-selling PlayStation 1 titles, so I bought it for myself a few years ago to play it on my PlayStation 2. Nice walkthrough!
The PS2 is listed as not being able to play any of the three Destruction Derby games. Is this not true?
