The heat shrink is a great idea, I've used electric tape and even zip ties to tighten a wire cup but never even dawned on me to use heat shrink, brilliant! I'm actually just making templates for a little leather project of my own when I can get back out to the shop again. Great restoration as always bud, keep up the good work. As far as young ones of today go...we're doomed.
Love the message about finding the passion .My Grampa instilled that into me but unfortunately passed away when I was about 8 or 9 years old. I am retired now and still spend my time in my shop while my better half wonders how I can spend that much time in there but I do suffer from rearrangeritis (Stumpy Nubs). Then I come inside and spend a lot of my evenings watching online content such as yours which just fuels the urge to get back in the shop the next day. Your effort to pass the sharing of skills is surely the answer to peace because sharing a passion makes us all the same. It costs nothing, but the value is priceless. Time to push the boat out!
Interesting subject, it's hard to guide someone and allow them to learn at their own pace. You have good family support and the "Small town feel". Keep inspiring us, as you might be "preaching to the choir" you are a good example. Take care Kyle
Howdy Kyle. Just finding this video. Excellent refurb on this knife and scabbard. Truly excellent. All the best and God bless you and your family. Greetings from Sugar Land Texas.
I know it’s an old video now but I’ve watched the full lot for this knife- superb, that’s all I can say. A wonderful knife, family history and a gorgeous restoration. Well done and God bless you. Thank you.
This set of 3 restoration videos was offered to me again. I have already seen them, but it was nice to watch all 3 one after the other. Lovely job Kyle, the client must be really pleased..
I love your restoration work, the before and after is really brings happenings to all of us not just the owner. I can't wait for all of my knives to look beat up so I can send them to you for restoration.
Kyle I was involved with Boyscouts for many years. The requirements for rank advancement involved earning merit badges and this gave them glimpses into the many topics that they would earn. Alot of times some topics peaked there interests which turned into a hobby.
I just watched all 3 videos of the series for this knife and case. Great work! Keep it up, I enjoy watching your expertise, and the tips. Totally agree with your view on the newer generation.
Hello from Indianapolis,Indiana,USA! I love your channel because I learn a lot of things I didn’t know before and I keep surprising people with stuff I know that I learned from you!😄Thanks and keep up the great work!
I have an old similar beautiful knife and shealth. Mine were handmade in New Zealand by a German man who was a local legend. He used an old chainsaw blade and NZ stag antler. This was such a cool series to watch.
I have a Voos hunting knife, about 70 years old. Was in with junk someone was throwing in metal recycling. Don’t think it was every used. Just cleaned it and sharpened it. It holds an incredible edge, better than any knife I own. That old Solingen steel is amazing.
Wonderful job on that restoration, Kyle, kept the feeling of the original blade but made new again. Hobbies are a way for people to dedicate time and effort into mastery of a skill outside their job. An essential thing for young people, especially males, to learn to do. Keep up trying to get them engaged :)
Nice work young man . I might take this up , the leather work anyway . In the UK there might not be too many big knives needing fixing , but maybe there are ? Thinking about it ! I subbed after watching two videos , liking your teaching style and how you decide to use process options . Thank you
Great Restoration, Kyle ! I Find Myself Looing While Hiking Along The Woods, Looing For Odd Looking Sticks Which I Turn Into Hiking Staffs & Give Them To Family & Friends. ATB T God Bless
@@kyle_noseworthy For years now. Especially in the outdoor world. I think there are two major things happening. One is parents are busy working all the time. 2. Is that the cost of things like sleds, quads and hunting tools , which most kids from the city environment are taught as bad. It’s not just the outdoor world either. Kids spend to much time on line or on video games. Having kids in sports is more expensive. The only kids that have a chance are from the rural life it seems where they learn of work and fun in the outdoors. Hard to turn a kid loose in the city, we all know what that leads too. That is my opinion.
I've been following this restoration. Good job! I'm particularly interested in the sheath restoration, since I do a lot of leather work. Best wishes to you!!
I like to build and tinker with making things especially woodworking so I own a couple of Dremel Rotary type tools including the original Dremel. But when I go to get out a rotary tool I more often than not I grab my Wen Tools rotary tool the same as the blue one in this video. I bought mine with the included extension and it has been very handy and I prefer it to the Dremel
I 100% agree about steels that are not too hard! I can get a Grohmann knife sharp in a few minutes, I've spent two hours on a new Swedish 14c28 beveling and edging and it's not sharp yet... I do admit I'm not willing to use a diamond or coarse stone on it as I don't want to scratch up the blade. A good a2 blade I can usually get sharp in 15-20 minutes max starting with a medium water stone. I don't mind some 12c27 knives I have but I may be done with 14c28!
Great video Kyle. Motivated me to refurbish a very simpler knife by the same company. Called the " Gator Hunter". It was given to me in pretty bad shape with grinder marks and dents on top of the blade. I'll send you a before and after picture when Im done. Thanks for the motivation.
Second time watching and now subscribed , Fantastic job . I just want to say ware protective gloves when handling chemicals of any kind no joke many can cause cancer be safe .
I have been teaching boys in the boy scouts for many years. I would agree that the amount of young people with no perspective or interests in life is growing. But there are also a huge amount of young people out there that are intelligent, motivated, eager to learn and change the world.
Agree 100% about today’s kids. The only thing my grandson gets fired up about is his iPad - if you want to see passion in him, turn the Wi-Fi off! Insane.
yeah not gonna lie young folks still have plenty passions and hobbies theyre just so vastly different from even 15 years ago. Lifestyle and culture changing very fast and so do interests in what people want to get themselves immersed in and learn about
Looks great. On another subject, recently i received the task of sharpening an axe for my mother in law. Any tips on that? It will be used to turn splitwood into smaller firewood
Hello Kyle, I stumbled onto your channel it’s great!!!! I’m a father of 3 and none of them have passion like you’re talking about. Just fake it until you make it kinda attitude
Are you familiar with a German kissing crane bull moose fixed blade knife? My uncle gave it to me when I was about 15. I’m 40 now and it’s just been sitting it the top drawer of my chest of drawers…😂 The sheath it’s in isn’t made for that knife… It kinda reminds me of a Kabar style sheath… It’s got the metal back plate and it wraps around the bottom of the sheath and it has the place for a sharpening stone on the front… I was just wondering if that knife is worth anything I think the handle is real antler. I’m guessing moose antler. It doesn’t really feel expensive but it’s still not a bad knife… I’m kinda thinking about making a sheath for it or possibly buying one… Any advice on how to make a sheath would be greatly appreciated. It does have sentimental value to me because my uncle passed away a couple years ago. Thanks in advance… I also just discovered the antler part of the handle is kind loose, I can twist it side to side…
Beautiful work and craftsmanship as always, my friend 👍👍👍👍 1:26: As an FYI, Sheffield is pronounced with the stress on the first half: More 'Sheh-field', rather than 'Chef-eeled', and pronounced almost as one syllable, rather than two clear syllables 👍👍👍👍 The double ff almost makes me think the name is of Welsh origin, as in Welsh, a double ff, is always pronounced as an 'eff', and a single f is pronounced as a 'vee'... However, it is also spelled 'sh', and in Welsh, that sound is written 'si'... The Welsh word for a shop is also pronounced 'shop', but spelled 'siop'... 🥴🥴🥴🥴 The female name Siân is pronounced 'Sharn'... Welsh is a Very phonetic language, and always pronounced exactly as it is written, it's just that those sounds are represented as different spellings to English... Once one knows how each spelling is pronounced, one could easily read a page of Welsh aloud perfectly, simply by pronouncing what is written... Equally, the ^ above some vowels makes that vowel-sound 'long'... For example, in Welsh, the Welsh word for 'team' (as in a sports or work team) is 'tîm', and it is pronounced 'teem' (Just as my Mexican penpal pronounces my name 'Teem' 😆😆😆😆) So long as one knows how each spelling is pronounced, Welsh can be read aloud very easily, as it is always pronounced exactly how it is written, with none of the 'same spelling but different pronunciations' which occur in English: such as 'please' and 'pleasant' being pronounced 'ee' and 'eh' respectively, despite being spelled the same way... 🥴🥴🥴🥴 Languages can be such funny things... 🥴🥴🥴🥴🙈🙈🙈🙈(and as you've probably guessed, languages are one of my hobbies/areas of interest 👍👍👍👍)
Do you take new customers for work like this, I did my best restoring a knife really similar to this one even has same sheath but I don't think I did a good job, it was for my brothers dad and he does like it but I know there will be rust under the handle and I accidentally put a recurve into it while sanding because it was so pitted
It can be hard for some, no dads hanging around, poor mothers who can't afford anything to help further knowledge, even books. I had to try flea markets, anything to get knowledge on interests and my area was not a place that promoted getting ahead. Just my thoughts. Nothing can stop the truly motivated. What sort of entitlement lead to smashing of a headstone. That is upsetting to say the least. All the best.
Marc, I didn't think I would have to clarify but the headstone clip was a joke. Haha I have a friend who worked at a headstone manufacturing facility and he would occasionally bring home these blocks of granite from botched jobs. Very useful! The 'no dad' situation is a real tough one, and statistics show that life will probably be pretty tough for them. Let's hope most find good male influences

That's an easy one. Walk into a major hospital and ask to speak to an administrator about lung cancer and emphysema. Get the data. From my own experience, I knew eight people over my life who smoked. None of them made it past their 50's. All of them died from lung cancer, and one of them got cancer in the mouth and it (and the surgery required to dig it out) killed some nerves around his left eye. Another got emphysema and used an oxygen tank for the last year of his life. That's just my personal experience. It's pretty messed up to work all those years hoping to retire and cruise, and have it all taken away. Just do the research.
Young people today have such a sense of entitlement. I know a lot of people that are in their 20s and 30s and all they want to do is play videogames and larp/cosplay. They don't want to grow up. My own sons are guilty. I've tried to teach them skills and they'd rather game.

What a beautiful restoration of a great knife ❤❤
Beautiful restoration Kyle and very sympathetically done to the original.

Came here to learn how to restore my father's Anton Wingen Jr Othello Bowie knife and your using same brand knife! Very glad I found your channel
Awesome preservation, Kyle. You have inspired me to try to preserve my Dad's Bowie style knife and sheath he carried with him in WWll.
Thank you for his service! Best wishes on the restoration, Karl!

Great video as always. I was touched that you read my email. Keep up the good work my friend. May the Lord bless you and your family.
Wise words Kyle, let's get these young folks involved. They won't regret it certainly. Beautiful end result on that knife, wow. Just awesome 👌
Involvement would probably play a huge role in correcting the problem! Thanks Chris
i think it is funny because i am 14 doing this
Nice work and some great tips like the heat shrink.

Very timely for me as I am working on a Schrade Old Timer and the sheath.
Both knife and leather are ... very compromised. But salvageable. Thanks.
Thank You!!!

A saddlers stitching clam would make hand sewing that sheath much easier and quicker
Those sheaths must all wear exactly the same , its a carbon copy of mine except mine had a smaller sheath stitched on the front for a small skinner .
yeah not gonna lie young folks still have plenty passions and hobbies theyre just so vastly different from even 15 years ago. Lifestyle and culture changing very fast and so do interests in what people want to get themselves immersed in and learn about
Any tips on how to clean the inside of a sheath that had a knife go rusty inside the sheath?
I have a stacked leather handle that the leather need rehydrated is there any particular product you would recommend
Looks great. On another subject, recently i received the task of sharpening an axe for my mother in law. Any tips on that? It will be used to turn splitwood into smaller firewood
For that task, you just need to make sure it has an edge. A file is just fine! No stone work needed.
Heat shrink nice tip
Where do you get your button snaps, I always have to deal with them being low quality and coming apart while using them.
Yessir, there is a lot of junk on the market! Find quality local sources if possible!

Don't just be a spectator....sage advise! I wish I would have listened to that much earlier in my life!
Lessons learned, friend. I think we all take longer to learn them than needed!
He's joking about the headstone thing right?
I was wondering the same thing
what was the story of the uncle's broken headstone? you guys broke it after you realized he didnt leave any money behind?
Jump in and do it
didn't leave money so yall smashed his headstone?
If your hands, teeth or facial hair turns yellow from smoking. I suggest proper hygiene.. I’ve smoked for 40 years and never had anything turn yellow.
Interesting!
Or.....Jaundice...get your liver checked!
I never had my fingers or teeth go yellow until I smoked heavily like on the meth heavy...then it's smoke stains for miles.
I bet your lungs changed colors.
Ur poor uncle, hope you weren’t a part of that, and you kept a part to honour him 🙏
What is wrong with being a smoker, Cave Men were smoking, sometimes even tobacco. Only in this day do people hate smoking!
That's an easy one. Walk into a major hospital and ask to speak to an administrator about lung cancer and emphysema. Get the data. From my own experience, I knew eight people over my life who smoked. That's tough stuff buddy. I hope you can steer them in the midst of all the junk that's fighting for their attention!
These sheaths are the worst part of Solingen knives. glove leather, no spacer the belt loop is crap. Shame because the knives are great.
To many pit marks still in it.
