American Airlines deserves credit for allowing these to be on the internet.

@@bf1255 pilots like him are extinct today in this 121 culture. Most captains today have a non training attitude; why you asking me? you should know that!
I miss these old school folks.

Amazing what this man could accomplish with a model plane, a couple of sticks, and a no-bullshit delivery. Sometimes old-school is the best school. 👍

I'm not even a pilot yet this is the 3rd video by Cap'n Van I watch. He knew what he was talking about and he sure knew how to give a presentation! Rest in Peace.

I cannot think of a more relevant time then now, June 21, 2020, to renew Captain Van's mantra of Fly the Plane first. We have seen two tragic accidents in the past year where automation continues to play a significant role in airplane disasters.

I was an A&P flight mechanic approaching into Albuquerque from the east, low over the east mountains. I was in the FA seat just behind the cockpit. I knew we were close to terrain but that’s normal. Suddenly I hear WHOOP WHOOP PULL UP TERAIN AHEAD
I didn’t think we were close enough to the mountain to kick off the alarm. Immediately I hear the engines spool up and nose aggressively up.
    Then I got nervous.
In the end we are good. But point being, my mindset was don’t react to the alarm, we’re good.
But my pilots were well trained and smart enough to react instantly. A life saving reaction

No one goes to as many mountainous airports as AA? Swissair, Austrian, Avianca, LATAM (LAN/TAM back then), the Chinese the Indians, the Japanese? Really? Not what I had expected.

    • @lm1584

Hes referring to number of flights per airline in a mountain airport.
