Thanks everyone for the feedback on the audio. I was testing new equipment and didn’t catch some issues until too late. All the issues will be resolved before the next video.
Many people believe Alaska doesn't have many good bow woods, and well this is generally true, you can make a rather good bow out of pine or spruce, which is what many northern native peoples did in Europe, Asia, and North America. The trick is to make the bow out of the underside of a leaning tree or a tree branch. using the underside IE the compression wood you can make a good hard compression wood bow provided you back it properly to relieve the tensile strain on the back of the bow. I can't describe this process in full but if you look up "compression wood bow" there is much to learn, and many bows to be made!!!
I really love that your taking your son with you hunting. The best memories I have of my dad is him bringing me with him duck hunting when I was around 4 or 5.
How interesting. Saw you post, without the video attached of course, this on FB. So happens to come up in my YT feed. Guess I'll leave a sub. Cool video
Great video! Is there any risk for overdoing the fire harding? Obviously you dont want to burn the wood but if you do it many times can the wood become britle or something in that nature?
Either is fine but I would Debark it and get it somewhere super dry because it’s prone to rot from its own internal moisture. I usually just rough them out the day I cut them and clamp it to a form.
It’s a issue with my editing software. If you’re using headphones it likely switched to the other ear. Thanks for the feedback. I’ll do better next time
You're videos are awesome man, but the putting the diesel or gas on the fire like that is incredibly dangerous. Seen countless unnecessary burns because of this. You and your wife and son don't need you in the hospital for this mistake. Just looking out for you is all man!

Amazing build. I enjoyed this video very much. Sure makes me wish I had tried making some bows when I lived in Alaska in the 1990s.
This was a fantastic video! Thank you for sharing and taking us along!
Thanks for tuning in!

Really cool. I want to give this a try.
I’d be happy to help
Svaka čast... Bravooo
22:11 That’s because bears don’t trample people, they claw, bite, and otherwise attack them. 😂

I have had them catch on fire but never broken one. I use color to tell how charred it is. Light brown is ok, but no more than that
Very cool.
If you weren't doing a 1 day bow build and had cut that birch section would you dry it round or split it?

@Benjamin.stevens Thanks so much for the reply. I found your channel and am inspired and binge watching your video's!
Do you store your bows strung or unstrung?
Unstrung

Confirming what the other guy said I don’t think your voiceover made it through. All I heard was imagine if your bow breaks.

Why did you break the bow in the start!?
So I could make a new one
yes
Luar biasa
Hola cómo se llama el árbol del cual hiciste el arco
Birch
I can't hear anything but music.
Thanks for the feedback
@Benjamin.stevens is there supposed to be a voice layer?
@@Benjamin.stevensI'm getting some voice further in. Great info!
Yeah, I can’t see any reason you shouldn’t hear me talking.
@Benjamin.stevens you cut in and out a couple of times throughout. No big deal because the video is good and informative.
maybe first learn bow shooting before go for a hunt... :)
i'm just joking, i'm pretty sure you're a good bow shooter !!! 👍👍👍
I did whiff quite a few times in this one. Definitely need some practice.
nahhh, you made a good bow at least... 👍👌
