Hi so I have a 7 month old heeler rescue I got but I already had a 12 year old dog and she’s been the only dog in our home. My heeler is very playful but my older dog really doesn’t want anything to do with her but when I make them interact the older dog stay away as much as possible she’s a very good dog and I know she can get along with other dogs she’s done it before just not at get own house. So if you have any tips on what I should do to get them to get along I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you and thanks for the great videos I’m leaning a lot from watching🙏🏼
Loved this video - Chop is gorgeous! My son and I fell in love with Inertia when you did her series and I was wondering if you are going to do any follow up on Inertia and how she is doing?
I've never read a book so fast! th-cam.com/users/postUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU Learning about his dogs and experiences was just the icing on the cake - bed this book through and through. We're working with our new pup and Brandon's advise was just what I needed. Wish he'd just come and train for me haha but it's good for us and happy to have this new set of tools to use on our pup.
There are going to be people and other professionals out there criticizing this video and Zak. What I like about this content and this video and that is shows that even with training, expertise, and knowledge we as dog owners make mistakes and errors in judgement. I don't want a dog trainer that got everything right at the beginning and from the beginning. I want a trainer that has shown self growth, improvement, and problem solving skills. The average dog owner will make mistakes and does make mistakes regarding the welfare of their animals from time to time. It just happens and we should not be condemned for it. We should take the lesson, and grow and learn from that so we become better Keep going Zak, I know this is a challenge for you but keep going and keep giving us hope that we aren't the worst dog owners in the world because out Pomeranian took on a Doberman without us watching.
Oh please. The whole "positive only" WOkE movement is a joke. Even in this video, Zak is trying to brush against balanced training and pretending that he's not saying "NO" to the dog. It's such a joke. Admit the obvious. You can't only tell a dog what you want. You also have to tell them what you don't want. Is there anything more obviious????
@@samwdavis Slow down. My comment was very specific. I like that Zak showed his mistakes. Talk candidly about what he did wrong and what he can do better. He admits that he failed. We all fail at some point within our training regardless of what training method you choose to use. I personally ascribe to the whole 'unlimited" method, meaning I am not bound by any method or tool. I wouldn't consider Zak George a purely positive trainer. In older content he has used things like small leash correction, verbal markers like "no" (which is a positive punishment). Furthermore, like any good consumer you must look at all sides and cherry pick methods and tools that work best for your animal, whether it be a cat, dog, horse etc. I am also a close follower of Beckman from Beckman's Training (balanced) and also Tom Davis at Upstate Canine Academy (unlimited) in addition to Charlotte Harvey at K9ology (balanced), and I also follow the Dog Liaison channel which is all about cognitive behavior in dogs (trainer is purely positive but I like her research). You don't have to be so aggressive my friend. It is okay not to agree with a trainer and their methods. I don't always agree with what Zak does either.
I am going to be honest here: I was preparing myself to get some good bellylaughs when Zak said it is bathtime for Chop 😅 Well it didn't go like I thought but I still enjoyed it. Chop is a confident boy and that is really good to a homeless dog, mine were really shy and kind of still are even after many years. Looking forward to the next episode 🤗
Very glad to see a more detailed video walking through the initial meetings! While I’ve read through different tips, it’s always great to have the REALITY shown. A great part of these series.
He looks so much like an Anatolian shepherd to me, the ear position, long legs, massive paws, and that posture -- as well as that confidence just are all there. And the fact that he survived on his own in such a remote dangerous area!
i used to watch you then for some reason i stopped but i now really enjoy this series. i love seeing these more behind the scenes videos . they feel more real and like showing that not everything always goes according to plan.
Street/village dogs tend to have great dog-dog social skills and Chop is, so far, awesome with Inertia. I don't see a canine social skills issue in the park video, just a dog who is accustomed to socializing as he pleases suddenly being leashed around other dogs. In the same way, warning Inertia off his bone was very normal behavior and he used a minimal demonstration of "I have no interest in sharing this bone" and then went right back to relaxed and chewing, versus a reactive/guarder leaving the bone and continuing to escalate the aggression. If I had a stranger come up to my cafe table and sniff my sandwich I would tell them to buzz off as well. That wasn't a shocking or problem behavior, unless as they get to know one another it escalates instead of decreases. Street dogs cannot afford to passively let other dogs take their food. Will be interesting to see what caused things to go off the rails--my guess from this video is that Inertia doesn't know how to de-escalate her play energy. Here we saw Chop deliberately ignoring her play solicitation after she told him she was uncomfortable. I think Chop was saying, okay, but you need to chill out a little more because you're just going to get overwhelmed again if we get right back to it. So I wonder if as he gets to know her he's less cautious and more willing to let her ramp things back up and get more rambunctious. If other viewers have a dog who struggles with de-escalation of excitement, Real Dog Yoga (book) is all about helping the dog practice calming down, and kikopup on TH-cam is really great at capturing calmness exercises. I tend to struggle with making training too high-energy myself (because I find it fun and exciting too) and these resources have helped me work on that with my incredibly enthusiastic large dog. We still have quite a ways to go on this... it's not either of our favorite things to practice lol but not getting enthusiastically punched for every paw target is worth working on for me!
I tuned you in when I inherited a very traumatized pom-chihuahua mix from a friend in a terrible dv situation. The most important thing I learned was life-changing for the little doggie. Always, always positive. THANK YOU with all my heart. He still has little unpleasant tendencies, but I have never ever hollered at him or hit him...EVER. Your books and videos helped me support this 'rescue'. The original owner? Stayed in the dangerous situation, suffering serious injuries, until her 'partner' ended his own life. I think my happy little doggie baby is truly a rescue! And you helped more than you will ever know.
Being patient and positive works - we adopted a very reactive dog with a traumatic background. It took time and environmental management while he was learning to trust. But he became a different dog. I felt like I wasn't adding to his trauma. He's passed now, but he was such a great guy. Our new rescue spent his life in a shelter and is afraid of everything (even a leash), and using these positive methods is bringing him out of his shell and giving him confidence. I appreciate what we've learned about this approach.
My dog, Sparky, would have so much fun playing with inertia. He LOVES chase, he plays it with small and big dogs, and if he gets too excited he takes the signs other dogs give him very well and he'll slow down. Love seeing chop and inertia getting along for now, I know chop will be even a better good boy than he already was after his training program :)
I think inertia's playing style unfortunately makes her very prey-like and probably triggers chop a little, that's why he started getting a little more dominant
Yes I was thinking the same. She is a high energy dog and sometimes that can be a little problematic ,for example in dog parks because it gets the other dogs up in high energy too. High energy play can get competitive and then turn into aggression.
My BC/ACD puppy has the same body language when playing with big dogs: ears pinned, stiff and fast movements, air snaps, tail down/tucked, mixed with occasional play bows. Unfortunately it doesn't seem like play as much as an overflow of nervous energy... and she ends up getting pushed around by the other dog,, making her even more nervous and submissive.
This video reminded me that it is often better to go slowly when working with dogs. I imagine had you simply put Chop in the tub and started wetting him down he would have reacted much differently. If I learn nothing else it is go slow and be patient.
Inertia is so fast. Border Collies are notorious. Good thing. They are fun to watch. I love your videos and I get such good information for my own 2 dogs.
I loved the brush training part. one of my dogs are terrified with everything , especially brushing. So this is going to help me train him to be ok with the brush
Nice! Chop seems to be doing really well so far with your dog and his training, but I know the future previews of what's to come and it's not all going to be smooth. It will be interesting to see what sets him off and why he chooses to jump off the balcony. Keep the good work, Zak! Love these videos!
May I recommend an undercoat rake for Chop’s double coat? It’s great to use before brushing. I have also used the Furminator and that’s good too but Chop should get used to brushing and raking before that’s done. I had a pair of Malamutes who blew their coats two to three times a year, that was fun!😀
My Swissie has a double coat and sheds constantly… even in winter. I love our Furminator for tackling the under coat shed. Really really helps. A great recommendation!
@@NikhilAditya25 Zak did a DNA test on Chop and he goes over the results in one of his videos with this dog. I am sorry I don’t remember which one as it was awhile ago. I do remember he was mostly Labrador Retriever (surprised me!) and I think husky and a couple other breeds. That’s all I have🤷🏻♀️
idk why but I got a little emotional hearing that intro to Inertia's training series music playing in the bg at the beginning, she's come so far and grown into a lovely young lady !
I love watching you work and reward and bulld the trust and communication with Chop ( the previous dogs too) I seem to reward a bit to soon or a bit to late but I'm getting better 😃 the more I work with my dog the better we both become. Thank you both for the wonderful work you do.💖
I love the explanation of patience and going slow, something that will help build the relationship over time. Sometimes I forget this with my dogs. ❤️❤️❤️ Like “you need a bath, it’s happening, get over it” 😞 I feel so bad. 😬 Will be gentler with bath time in the future for our younger dog. Maybe have the older calm dog in the tub with him.
@@iyamwhatiyam547 true But the older dog doesnt mind and is not stressed being in the tub. The other dog is very dependent on him. Good thing is I don’t have to give them baths often, and have started only bathing maybe just the paws or under the belly, which is completely fine with the pup. I brush him more instead, lessening the need for bathing the whole body. 😀
Hi Zak, i usually don‘t comment on videos but I have to tell you that i absolutely LOVE your videos. ❤️ I recently got a dog, a lab (18 weeks old) and your videos have been sooooo helpful. I really appreciate these videos and sometimes I binge your videos for hours and hours and I have learned soo much. Thank you soo much for your help and i can‘t wait for future videos! 😊
As the owner of an Alaskan Malamute, I absolutely love this series. Chop definitely has a lot of arctic breed tendencies and it was fun seeing Zak handle the fur! Great stuff!
Great video again. Really professional filming. The details are very helpful. Introducing two dogs is a very delicate matter. Your video make it easier. Thank you.
I'm loving this series! I first found your videos while doing some research on dog training on TH-cam. We found your George series! It was so nice to see you training a dog fresh from the pound that my partner and I are looking into adopting a pitbull mix ourselves! (fingers crossed!) Thank you for opening my eyes to the possibilities with dogs and how even training a big dog is possible and 'easy'! (I know it takes a lot of patience and work, but it seems a lot more doable to me after seeing your videos.) Thank you!!!! Also- can't wait to see more of Chop! The little teaser clips of the future make it so refreshing to see that even when things are going well we have to be ready for setbacks in our training! It can happen to anyone, and we should expect as much and not get discouraged!
Inertia is showing Chop very good , how she likes to play , she is inviting him to run with her , jumping in front of him , he tries to understand what she means , both are very much focussed on successful play . 👍
This is like watching a Netflix series specially with some glimpse of future. Really excited!! I have been loving all the episodes. Love from India🇮🇳 ❤️
Who else thinks Chop is a softie underneath that big boy exterior? I can imagine him loving running alongside a bike to get out some of that mushing energy. Also seems like he would be a great cuddle ☺️ can't wait for the next episode!
Wow! I started watching your videos ….10+ years ago! Just thought about your channel as I remember you telling me when YT was first approaching you about the Partner Program! I had 2 border collies back then! I actually still do! My eldest was about 3 when I first started watching. He literally turned 16 years old last week (October 20th)! So glad to see you still putting out great videos!
This is such an awesome series. I love watching these videos. Watching is for more my entertainment, nut I still need to look for the ones that will help me with what I’m looking for. 😄. Thank you!
Love giving my dogs baths! I hand feed and just love doing what I do to tighten my bond. I don’t take my dogs to the groomer. I am the groomer. I find it rewarding and therapeutic I love talking to mine. Literally make conversation with them lol while bathing
Enjoyed watching you giving Chop a bath, you made it look so easy, wish me luck, when I get the nerve up to wash Bronte, my teenager! I also loved watching them play!!!!
I loved this video. Loved it when him and your dog were playing. Chop was great in the bath and when he was having his hair brushed. You were so kind to kiss him after the bath and to ease him in gently with the hair brushing and the bath too. You are so good with him Zac. Great video.😊😊😊😊😊😊
What another great video, we love the way you break things down into easy steps! Inertia is so lovely with Chop, well done her 😘 The bath time was so good, really thought he'd stress out, we can tell you guys really care about making every experience the best you can for each dog! Thankyou for making our puppy training so much easier 💕 stay safe & look forward to next weeks episode ☺️
With a dog like that, flood insurance is probably a good idea 🙂 Chop seems to be a really intuitive dog from the way he interacts with Inertia and responds to human training. He picks up fast. All the dogs you've worked with so far acted in a unique way to brushing and baths, it's helpful to see.
My new recuse dog must have medicated baths 2x a week and she hates it . I have always done the slow and steady approach its wasn't possible this time. She freezes and wont take treats of nothing. I try playing soft music and just talking to her slowly. She has to be fully dried after her bathe but the blow drier is a no go so I spend about 30 mins towel drying her which she seems to slowly be liking that part. I just hope me having to give her the baths isn't hurting our bonding. I have always had dogs like George or Chop this is my 1st super shy and scared dog. Not going to lie it has been a struggle.
😄 Chop might have enjoyed the warm shower , it is much more pleasent and comfy than the cold rain in Alaska's wilderness . He looked as if he would have waited for the bath to start .
@zak, I recently learned from a groomer that if you wait until the very end of a bath to do a dogs head (including getting him wet), he’ll do much less (if not at all) the shake off. Until his head is wet. I thought about that as I was watching you bathe him and sure enough, he started the shake off as soon as you got his head wet. I can’t wait to try this out with my pup. He shakes off so much throughout the bath and gets everything wet and soapy!
I actually don't agree with your aproach to Inertia and Chop playing while indoors. I don't think that it's bad, but if not done correctly it can do a lot of damage. They were playing and the moment Inertia freezed and showed any sign of discomfort you called Chop over. In that moment I would occupy them both for a bit, even if it's just to have them both sit. The way you did it by just calling Chop over, Inertia immediatly went after him again and started the play again, only to freeze and have you call Chop over. And even when Chop started wandering around and not being interested she still kept pushing him a bit. I have seen a lot of dogs in Inertia's position who take this behaviour as a "okay, I can go be a menace and when I get in trouble or start feeling uncomfortable I'll run to my owner and they'll make the other dog stop so I can go harrass them again". I have also seen a lot of dogs in Chop's position who just stop playing with other dogs because of the experience ofthe other dog constantly starting the play and then acting all panicky so they "get in trouble". Here it works because Inertia is a well behaved and trained dog, but with other dogs it might not. I'm not saying you should just let the dogs figure it out themselves which might lead to a fight, but if you call one for a time out, make sure the other gets the time out as well, and if you have to call them off all the time then move them back outdoors or just end the play entirely for a longer break.
Wow Chop sure did well in the bath, My dog not so good so ive learned how to go about it. hmmm he jumped off the balcony oh boy hope he wasn't hurt . it seems to me like he wants to try and escape. Looking forward to the next video. love how chop and inertia's play time went for the first time
My dog behaves exactly like inertia around other dogs, could you do a video update on her training? on how you deal with her being "shy" with other dogs?
Well, let me just say this... Chop is better at getting a bath than our 2 dogs! He sure seems to be open to all sorts of new experiences. You guys are doing awesome with him! 👍👍😊
Thank You Zak. I just learned by watching this video, that my puppy is fear biting my older dog. He goes after the face the same as Inersha did. Thank You again.
Love your videos Zak, thank you for sharing. Biggest problem we have is our male Aussie can get very bitey when interacting with and our female aussie, when she gets excited she can bite alot as well. In time we'll get it figured out. Thank you again.
Hey Bree and Zak! My family and I love your content. We named our newest family member (English bulldog) George, after your last name and the George series! Oddly enough, he LOVES watching it ☺️
when Zake said its bath time i was thinking of goeages first bath when he was trying to run away i was expecting that to happen but it didn't cant wait to see what breed he is Ps love the videos been since moura
7:49 Just brushed my dog for around 45 minutes today, very similar experience lol. She's only a medium coat dog but even then there's just SOOO much hair.
I'm loving this series so far! This first bath was a dream and to think I still struggle to bathe my 35 lb Shiba inu. 🙃 she is NOT a fan of baths. Great episode!
But what DO you do when they get too rough? My daughter and I have female boxer litter mates that haven’t been able to co-exist without getting too rough. Help, please! Oh, and Bree and Zak, when I have seen you cry in various episodes it breaks my heart. All that love you have for your pups poured out.. Sending love and gratitude to you both for all you do.
Before them interacting excercise them so that they are a bit tired. Don't stand still but walk them together because moving forward following you, smelling and seeing new stuff takes the attention away from the other one. If they still get too rough put them on the leash for a while and once they get chill you can take it off again. Also adding more dogs can help, even though that might sound contradicting. They play with multiple buddy's rather than focussing on the only other dog and end up winding eachother up. So go to a dogpark/off leash area. Also boxers just tend to be a little rough. As long as they are both enjoying it i wouldn't worry too much. In the house just teach them that that isn't playtime. If needed leash them until chill and give them both a bone so that they lay down and chill chewing.
Love your series training rescue dogs! We just adopted a dog two months ago, and your videos are very helpful. Since you've been training big dogs so far, could you train a small dog next, like a Chihuahua? They're so small and people don't think they need any training, or worse, just think their bad behavior is cute. Plus, there are so many Chihuahuas in the shelter that need love too

@@topcatwarrior Wow! Really? Seems way too aggressive for a Lab.
idk why but I got a little emotional hearing that intro to Inertia's training series music playing in the bg at the beginning, she's come so far and grown into a lovely young lady !
Me too 🥰🥲 I was wondering who would notice that!!
I love watching you work and reward and bulld the trust and communication with Chop ( the previous dogs too) I seem to reward a bit to soon or a bit to late but I'm getting better 😃 the more I work with my dog the better we both become. Thank you both for the wonderful work you do.💖
thank you, another great video. Chop is really a strong confident boy, but so willing to love, you can see it coming through.
He's soooo chill !! Even in the bath, he seems to know its for his benefit!
It's crazy I see so much of my own dog in chop, the way he plays and his mannerism . Kinda warms my heart 💗
Just a toss out…if 1 dog in a bath is stressing u, 2 r going put u over the top, right?
Zak (and Bree too!), you both are the absolute BEST! Thank you for another exciting and knowledge filled video! ❤️🐼
Looks like we get to see the balcony episode next week, and I’m looking forward to it!
Finally, huh?
Lol he is as tall as me! Bree encourages him with he kinda is!
Fun clip thanks for sharing.
Chop did so good with his bath👏👏👏👏💜
As the owner of an Alaskan Malamute, I absolutely love this series. Chop definitely has a lot of arctic breed tendencies and it was fun seeing Zak handle the fur! Great stuff!
Leonberger owner listnening to how impressed Zak is with Chops size and his feet, and laughing.
With fur like that, Chop is definitely reminding me of my shepsky, Apollo. GSD, Husky, and a touch of Canadian Inuit dog.
That bath went crazy good! He seems to be doing well in, like every way! Him and Inertia playing was great! They both did so well!
OMG the little tailspins Chop does when he's playing ❤
Great video again. Really professional filming. The details are very helpful. Introducing two dogs is a very delicate matter. Your video make it easier. Thank you.
Inertia has really pretty and healthy fur, like a raven or freshly painted lacquer.
Love the detailed bath coverage in this episode!
My dog is exactly same like chop in terms of behavior....so really excited to learn and get the knowledge to train my dog
Can't wait for the next one. I do hope it all works out
I'm loving this series!
Hello beautiful people Zak and Bree...Chop and his fur...gotta love him xxx
That was great method tnx
Great video! Lots of good information. Can’t wait for next week.🙂
Who else thinks Chop is a softie underneath that big boy exterior? I can imagine him loving running alongside a bike to get out some of that mushing energy. Also seems like he would be a great cuddle ☺️ can't wait for the next episode!
Thanks for your videos it helped me a lot and made dog traning more easy to understand and teach.
The bath experience was brilliant
I can't wait for more!!! Such a good boy
😄. Thank you!
I really needed this video!!! My family just got a dog and we're having trouble introducing him to our 3-year-old dog... THANK YOU!!!!
I’m getting a dog… will this work with lizards lol
I need to introduce my new dog to my lizard
Love giving my dogs baths! I hand feed and just love doing what I do to tighten my bond.
I don’t take my dogs to the groomer. I am the groomer. I find it rewarding and therapeutic
I love talking to mine.
I love how y'all gave Inertia her own leitmotif - the Inertia Theme - when she plays with Chop
Now I have to go re-watch. Hadn't noticed this.
🥰🥰
Inertia always in a different position in the background 😂 at first I thought she was a pillow!
I love Chop, he's a good boy 💙🐾🐾😘
With a dog like that, flood insurance is probably a good idea 🙂
Chop seems to be a really intuitive dog from the way he interacts with Inertia and responds to human training. He picks up fast. All the dogs you've worked with so far acted in a unique way to brushing and baths, it's helpful to see.
"A lot of dogs lose interest in eating during a bath because it can be stressful." My dog: MOAR SMOOTH BROWN NUTTY SPREAD, SERVANT!
Thank you so much for your videos
My new recuse dog must have medicated baths 2x a week and she hates it . I have always done the slow and steady approach its wasn't possible this time. She freezes and wont take treats of nothing. I try playing soft music and just talking to her slowly. She has to be fully dried after her bathe but the blow drier is a no go so I spend about 30 mins towel drying her which she seems to slowly be liking that part. I just hope me having to give her the baths isn't hurting our bonding. I have always had dogs like George or Chop this is my 1st super shy and scared dog. Not going to lie it has been a struggle.
I REALLY would've liked to see Chop And George interact.
😄 Chop might have enjoyed the warm shower , it is much more pleasent and comfy than the cold rain in Alaska's wilderness . He looked as if he would have waited for the bath to start .
Chop seems to be a lovely boy for an untrained street dog.
Scrub a dub dub, Chop made it through the tub! Good boy. Thanks Zak for sharing your episode
Love this series and Chop! :)
"..because we don't have flood insurance on this house."😄
You got this !
I can’t wait for the next video (I never can)
How do you do that!!????!!!!?!?!??!??!
Love your videos ❤️
Wow . I just got a 10 month old kengal mix, and she looks exactly like chop! Just found your channel excited to go through all your videos.
Zak you and Bree are always amazing, love your videos .
I'm not saying you should just let the dogs figure it out themselves which might lead to a fight, but if you call one for a time out, make sure the other gets the time out as well, and if you have to call them off all the time then move them back outdoors or just end the play entirely for a longer break.
after the bath the shot of him on the deck I bet he was an adorable puppy
Inertia and my dog would love playing together! My dog loves chase too!!⚡️
Wow Chop sure did well in the bath, My dog not so good so ive learned how to go about it. hmmm he jumped off the balcony oh boy hope he wasn't hurt . it seems to me like he wants to try and escape.
Inertia’s favorite game is chase because she knows she can outrun any other dog she plays with 🤣
Love your videos Zak, thank you for sharing. Biggest problem we have is our male Aussie can get very bitey when interacting with and our female aussie, when she gets excited she can bite alot as well. In time we'll get it figured out. Thank you again.
I think it went pretty good. Little steps👍
Hey Bree and Zak! My family and I love your content. We named our newest family member (English bulldog) George, after your last name and the George series! Oddly enough, he LOVES watching it ☺️
The thumbnail made me wanna run over to Alaska with my first aid kit to help lol
when Zake said its bath time i was thinking of goeages first bath when he was trying to run away i was expecting that to happen but it didn't cant wait to see what breed he is Ps love the videos been since moura
“it’s like washing an SUV” 😂 He behaved very well for his first bath 🛁
I’m loving these series’s. I would love for you to do a series with a reactive dog.
Zak I hope that you ever decide to make frisbee series on TH-cam. It would be freaky awesome
It’s really funny to see every time Zac does the voice over inertia has moved
Love your series training rescue dogs! We just adopted a dog two months ago, and your videos are very helpful. Since you've been training big dogs so far, could you train a small dog next, like a Chihuahua? They're so small and people don't think they need any training, or worse, just think their bad behavior is cute. Plus, there are so many Chihuahuas in the shelter that need love too
