Either on an LP or an 8 track I'm guessing. Man, I wore out so many 8 tracks during that period, that it's ridiculous, but I don't regret a single dollar I spent, or the memories they gave me.

I wore out one record and three tapes of that concert. You know, water and electricity don't go together, I can't get into that at all.

Wow....this was such a bittersweet show to watch and listen to. If I saw them onstage without an introduction, I'd have had no idea who they were, but when they got going, I knew exactly who they were. I was part of a band in High School(after hours) and Rare Earth was one band we tried so hard to sound like. We had permission to practice in the auditorium, but we wanted a live crowd to practice in front of for feedback. I did vocals and tambourine, sometimes playing it like a bongo, my best friend Steve was on lead guitar, and we had a bass man and drummer. Such memories and shear fun, during the days of integrating and consolidating the two high schools, and I was the only "spot" in our little group, but we were like a band of brothers. Race wasn't an issue with any of us. On Sundays we'd play in a Church after services were over, and always had a spill over crowd to listen to us, and build our confidence up. We never got far, but man was it fun while it lasted!! In watching the video, they've all aged so much, and the guy on lead guitar looked like he'd forgotten his bottom denture, and was wearing a 2XXL t shirt, but when it was time to kick it, he did exactly that, with grace and that "kick ass" style. I guess never judge a book by it's cover, 'eh? The drummer wasn't the original singer, but did he knock it out of the ballpark or what? He had that original Rare Earth sound and quality to his voice, and drumming while he sang. I hope he loves the bands music and legend enough to carry on the name for decades to come, and for future generations. Rare Earth was, to me, always left behind by some other groups of the same time period, but they hit your heart and mind just as powerful. As one commenter put it, they were "one of the most under rated, but talented acts ever", and I totally agree! Having been through hell with health issues, and now trying to start a ranch for homeless youth, "I just want to celebrate, another day of living!" We all should! ❤❤❤

Indeed it's a crying shame Peter Rivera's MIA here. His drum playing and his voice were the very trademarks of Rare Earth. But hey no man is indispensable, for whatever reason why he ain't here the music still has to go on. Still love the guys left. Being able to effectively play any musical instrument and sing with out screwing one or both up incredible. In doing so, and damn well. In doing so Pete Rivera places himself in elite company. Ringo Starr, yeah I said it Ringo Starr, Ginger Baker, Phil Collins ECT. Prob harder to drum and sing then anything else. Just the other day was watching Susan T. (Ted/Trucks Band) absolutely smoke a guitar 🎸 while wailing vocals as only she can and was amazed at her performance. This is why they do this for a living and we play in the back yard. Till the neighbors call the cops!

Kills me that the MC asked the crowd "who remembers these guys from the sixties?" when in fact only ONE guy on stage was in this band back then. A fucking legalistic crime that the sax player gets to own the name when Peter Rivera was the heart and soul of Rare Earth!

Just so you know ….. Pete left the band twice because of the same stuff he pulled that split the band the first time. When Rare Earth was at the very top of the charts, Peter had a bad case of the lead singer syndrome. He wanted the band to be called Peter Rivera and Rare Earth, and he wanted to fire some of the band members. All the guys were writing and they wanted to sing their own tunes, but Pete wasn't having it. That's just one of many things I'll share that happened. Pete froze the accounts and Rare Earth broke up, which left five men and their families without work. Litigations began and while awaiting trial over the name, it finally come to court in New York. Gil won the name of Rare Earth, and he worked all of his life doing what he loved best, making people happy with his Rare Earth. They were fantastic! They played to sold out crowds all over the world with cheering fans constantly jumping to their feet with joy for love of the music of Rare Earth. Gil was the one and only member of Rare Earth to play on every tune ever recorded, including when they were the Sunliners in the 50s and 60s, of which there were two drummers before Pete. Everyone that was ever around Gil knew that he was a kind, humble man who was one of the greatest sax players I've ever heard, and he had such a beautiful voice. He was a quiet man, but he knew that all the members of a group makes the band, not one person can stand alone. Gil's history and his legacy speaks for itself. His family reads this stuff, and we know that there are (the same) trolls posting the same ugly stuff on anything that’s uploaded regarding Gil. I ask you to refrain from negative comments. Just because he is gone, please don’t think his family won’t defend him.

Que bueno escuchar al Tierra Rara, yo crecí haciendo y escuchando su música, esa influencia musical de los 70. Se extraña la voz del baterista Pete Rivera. Gracias por este concierto

This is not the original drummer Peter Rivera, but he also sang while drumming. There are actually a lot of drummer singers, Levon Helm, Don Henley, Phil Collins. Just to name a few and to honest even though I don't play the drums I do sing and I think might be easier to sing and play the drums than it would be to play the Bass, since you have to stay ahead of the pocket. Meaning you have to delay you voice till just after playing you notes, something Paul McCartney does incredibly well.

I’ve played bass and sang. It’s hard but it’s not even on the same planet as drumming and singing. Most people can barely mumble while playing an intricate beat.
There’s actually a scientific reason for it. There was an article in Modern Drummer about 15 yrs ago. Basically crossing the left and right hemisphere of the brain. It’s a rare talent.

It's cool that these guys are out having fun and making money, but I agree with several of you, who say that it isn't Rare Earth without the original drummer/singer. But I felt the same about Van Hagar, Journey, and remember Foreigner during their Unusual Heat touring? That wasn't Lou Gramm. I loved Rare Earth when I was very young. Had them on 8 track tape.
