Saw them in Salt Lake City where I grew up. Smoked a doob in the building hiding and inhaling frequently and loved every minute of this song always. Bless there hearts for giving us this great song that shall live on forever ❤😊

In 1968 I was in the 4th grade, my class had a birthday party for me. My teacher, Mrs. Goseco said I could play any music I wanted on her record player, I brought in my Iron Butterfly album and had her play all 17:01 minutes of In A Gadda Da Vida. She smiled. She looked at me differently after that.

In high school I had a , get this, a Lido Supreme drum kit. I learned this solo after months of practicing. On a cheap 5 piece kit I pulled it off at a high school dance. I’ll never forget the applause at the end. One of those moments that really paid off.

I remember hearing this song when I was small. I am speechless when I listen to it now. It is just so magnetic and awesome. These are the greatest men in the music world that I respect the most. Just beautiful music. Amazing. God bless them and their families.

It was probably a signal from God to let these beautiful people hear such a Godly song performed by these wonderful ( 1st psychedelical ) group Band.

Although this track suffers somewhat from overfamiliarity, it can't be denied this was a very adventurous piece of music for its time, and remains a classic ; nice to hear once a year and soak up those atmospheric 1968 days again..

When I was 16, the band I was in played this song. The audience knew it since it was current. They loved it and danced up a storm to it. So much fun!
Doug Ingle's voice and keyboards made this song. That's a voice you can't replace.
On the one hand, the song is nothing without Doug’s signature baritone. On the other hand, I saw the video of a 1995 SF show with Ingle back in the fold and it was kinda depressing to watch how way past their prime these guys were even in the mid-nineties. So I can see how Bushey wanted to continue to play out with some new blood standing in.
Hate to say it, but Iron Butterfly should’ve stayed disbanded after 1971.
I wouldn’t want to tarnish my band’s legacy to that of a nostalgia act. But it’s cool that they have fans still showing up to see them after all these years so that’s just me.

The first live rock concert I ever saw was in 1967 at Upsala College in New Jersey--main act Jefferson Airplane, opening act Iron Butterfly playing an unforgettably rousing and robust In a Gadda Da Vida. Bought their first LP (long playing, 33 rpm) album, which had a psychedelic cover art butterfly motif. IB still play and sing great.
...and just a year later the Airplane were the opening act for the Butterfly. I was I.B.'s roadie that year. '68summerofloveroadie

When this song came out, Doug Ingle was a 17 year old genius kid. Great band and an even greater song.
Eric Braun was the 17 year old guitarist
Ingle was about 23.

I saw these guys at a bar in Augusta GA. It was my 21st birthday 1982. Croud wanted an encore so they played this twice! Very drunk that night and a shuffle broke out between the band and the crowd....I was right in the middle buying drinks for the band 🙃 lol

My friend, the late Larry Rust, RIP, was on keyboards. I miss him. He died in LA on November, 25, 2016.

When I was learning to play drums you had to know how to do three things Wipeout Born to be wild and at least the first half of the drum solo for this song or you were not considered a decent player I love this music thank you

This album was my introduction to psychedelic rock back in 1970. I got a copy from my 2nd cousin, who at the time had an album collection that would rival most record stores, inside the sleeve was not only this record but Cream's Disraeli Gears. A solid double shot, I was hooked!

Larry Rust is a good friend of mine and we Produced a R&B Christian album on Mike Bell and also a Christian contemporary on Pam Jordan. Larry is one of the best musicians and producers I've ever worked with!!!!!

Legendary tale of the group missing their shot at Woodstock because of a foul-up in planning the helicopter transport by their manager. Most fans worldwide never got to see this group live in concert.

Iron Butterfly was never underrated. A string of great songs many with a message; "You Just Can't Win", "Real Fright". Great hooks in their songs such as this one, and 'Soul Experience". Metamorphosis was the very first time a "Talk Box" popularized by Peter Frampton was recorded. Mike Pinera, later of Blues Image, was the first person to use one. Bear in mind that very successful groups have a run for about 4 to 5 years and then they fizzle out as musical styles and tastes change with the new generation.
Grew up listening to this -what's even more interesting is that my cousin Larry Rust toured with them and is actually the one who is singing in this particular vid. Thanks for sharing.

There was no Wurlitzer (which I'm pretty sure is what you meant when you typed "Whilitzer," lol) used on IAGDV, Ingle used a Vox Continental, his instrument of choice.

The actual title of this song was supposed to be IN THE GARDEN OF EDEN. Only when they sang it is how it got it's iconic name .
Indeed! The true story is the band members got a little high then instead of the name being what you stated, it was titled to reflect/imitate the way it got blurted out.
