    I really really love this channel, you guys are so authentic and true it is great, usually when this type of channel starts gaining traction and becoming successful they change, all of a sudden the Astons and the Ferraris start to flow, you guys are going the opposite way and it is really great to see, the content you can relate to as a viewer, it is a vital ingredient that a lot of successful channels completely miss.
    What a fantastic relic to find, great to see if breathe life again and I really think it will not be too shabby at all by the time it has had a decent wash, that rattle has to be a pulley or tensioner no way it is engine mechanical running that well, it wants to live! Looking forward to seeing future videos on this and as ever guys, great content, thank you and have a great weekend :)

    The noise is the cranckshaft damper pulley. For the suspension leave the door open untill the compressor fully builds pressure in the tank. However, those airsprings are probably shot and the compressor needs an overhaul. Great project, good luck!

    Guys, nice video. Few corrections. The bmw m51 engine has an electrockly regulated rotary injection pump. On bmw-s there is no supply pump only an one in the tank which levels the amount of fuel in the tank on both sides. Recently watched a video, a bloke in Ireland has tha same car, and the horrible sound was the crankshaft pulley. It is mad of 2 pieces seperated with a rubber padding to absorbe some vibrations. If it gets old, it seperates and makes this noise. Should be an easy fix. These engines are pretty good, but they are very eensitive to being revd when cold. The head can crack. So be jentle with it. Good luck, it will be an amaising youngtimer!

      @@someone28 - Chain tensioner usually gets worse when revving to 1500RPM's this one goes as soon as it's off idle. Also, the chain tensioner is worse when cold and gets quieter when the oil begins to warm up.

    This Range Rover is really good. Don't worry about spending money on it, you will get it all back with interest. Suggest you first sort out a correct battery. Clean it up as you do typically. The heater will not switch off! Push the fan knob to turn 'Auto' on then wind the temperature up/down using the buttons on each side of the display. There is a button on the right side of the display to turn the A/C off/on. Check the crank damper. If removing this you will have to remove the outside part of the water pump pulley first. The more you use this RR the better you two will like it!

    Such a sad looking rangie. Glad you picked her up. It's a diesel but they are going up in value a bit since more and more ending on the yard. And being a DHSE in Epsom Green/sandstone leather helps. Also, the air compressor is electric don't need to rev it, just let it idling with access mode enabled the lowest setting and give the compressor time build pressure. If all bags are good and height sensors are healthy it should raise.

    • @paulsz6194
      @paulsz6194 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The air suspension compressor is also known to fail, which gives you the impression that one air suspension airbag s faulty, but it’s just the air Compressor not having the strength to keep all four bags inflated.

    • @slammerf16
      @slammerf16 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Open the tailgate or a door while the engine is idling and the pump is running - that'll give it time to charge the reservoir with the bags empty because EAS is disabled by a door/tailgate/bonnet open signal. A healthy pump should fill it up in about 8 minutes or so from nothing. Shut the door and watch her rise up in 1-2 seconds. Or not :)

    That M51 is pretty bombproof. As it is a turbo it will be a TDS.
    It was used in 3, 5 and 7 series between 1998 and 2001 in BMWs , Opel Omegas 2.5ds between 1995 and 2001 plus these Range Rovers from 1995 to 2001.
    A relatively simple engine, relaible and torquey.

    Rattles your crankshaft pulley, rubber corrodes, only rattles on idle, easy replacement, heater blowers on full is the fusebox, tracks corrode to relays 6 n 7, pull them n check for burning, make sure you get the right replacement for the car, there's many and there's been a few bonfires due to fitting the wrong one.

    Hi rob and chris. I have had one of these as a rolling project since november last year.
    The rattling noise will most likely be the crank pulley, the air not coming up fast enough will most likely be a weak compressor, check the air intake filter on the compressor and make sure its not blocked, you can screw it off completely to test if you like

    What a cracking save from you pair. I'm not surprised it took little effort and time to get it running as those engines are brilliant for their time and also very reliable. These are one of the OG SUVs so it definitely needs saving and I look forward to what you guys do with it next 🙂

    Great to see Rob and Chris keeping good cars going. The World's slowly realising that it's wrong to keep scrapping perfectly salvageable cars. Same with many many electrical and White Goods items. The makers want us to buy new this and 'improved' that and be un-satisfied with what already we have! Today's internal combustion engine cars will be collectors items pretty soon. Good work guys.

  • @brianwhittington5086

    It sounds like sticking injectors making the clattering noise. I used to clean my mechanical injectors by removing the feed pipe, suck any diesel out with a syringe. Then fill each with carb cleaner using a clean syringe, leave an hour or so, then repeat with diesel injector cleaner. Then fill each with neat injector cleaner again before starting. Even a tiny bit of stale diesel gunge, or the dreaded diesel bug will cause injector clatter like that.

    That engine has to be the best most reliable engine ever put into a car. Had the pleasure of having a few BM's with that engine.. Never once ever had any problems. If only they put good engines like that into the cars made today.

    • @aylesburynumptydrivers9672
      @aylesburynumptydrivers9672 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The engine is bulletproof but he injection pump will fail between 130k and 160k which will start off with slow to hot start then a diesel leak. Every 2.5 p38 it will happen the same as every BMW 525d and every vauxhall omega 2.5 diesel

    • @iansonnyblack2624
      @iansonnyblack2624 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@aylesburynumptydrivers9672 luckily never had that happen to any of mine, them engines where very easy to work on anyways, especially for a big engine. My e39 m sport had 402k on it when I first bought it, quietest 6 cylinder engine I've ever heard, still had all the power my 88k Omega had

    I know where there's a 4.6 HSE - it's been sitting for about 4, maybe 5 years.
    Probably asking for trouble.
    Too many complications, but it's super-tidy.
    Around the corner is a LWB Chevy Suburban - it's got the hell engine, but it's probably been sitting for up to 10 years.
    Might be easier, as it's relatively primitive...
