Welcome to the Dreamworld! Dreamcatcher are very unique. They are the dark angels of Kpop and the only girl group who consistently incorporate Rock and Metal in their title tracks, fusing that with Kpop into something that basically is a new genre. They also are drenched in horror and social criticism, which again is special. Plus, they are massively talented, all of them. And while the girls look like they could rip out your spine when they are on stage, off stage they are adorable crackheads. 😉
Scream is part 1 of the Dystopia trilogy, which is about cyber-bullying, hateful comments and people losing themselves in the (fake) online world. It is mostly showing the victim's perspective of (cyber)bullying, comparing it to a medieval witch hunt and a burning at the stake. The tree is the tree of language, and it grows black fruit for every hurtful thing people say. Note also the hand gesture, it is the devil's horns introduced by Ronnie James Dio as a symbol for metal, but it originally was a gesture in the middle ages to ward off the evil eye, tying into the witch hunt theme. I really enjoy the music, it's rock mixed with EDM. Dreamcatcher are always very creative, and they are in their own genre by this point.

Dreamcatcher is the face of rock in kpop
Kpop has a habit of smashing genres together and finding a way to make it work. Dreamcatcher are known for their rock fusion. Every title track is rock-influenced, but they continue to come up with ways to make it interesting. Scream in particular is a combination of psytrance and rock that came about because their psytrance bside Silent Night was received positively by fans.
One track that might arguably be the most genre-dense song to come out of the kpop industry is Guerrilla by ATEEZ. I think that one is worth checking out if you like new sounds.

Dreamcatcher is part of kpop but they are their own genre! They are the first kpop group to incorporate rock and metal into the kpop sphere :)

I just wanna put out there that they have a new album ("mini-album" with 6 tracks, probably like an EP?) coming on May 24th. If anyone wants to support them the preorders are still going obviously and we want to make them cumulative million sellers. The older albums like this one with Scream are mostly out of print and hard to get so... buy it while you can🙈
Streaming the mv for BON VOYAGE on the day and weeks after and listening on streaming platforms is also greatly appreciated, it's free and kpop is a lot about these numbers too.

DreamCatcher is basically their own genre as far as Korean groups go. They are the Black Sheep of K-Pop because Koreans just are not into Rock or Metal. This stuff is harder than 95% of K-Pop. These seven ladies perform the harder choreographies than the greatest number of girl groups on a regular basis (I actually cannot think of a girl group with harder choreo than I have seen from DreamCatcher) and even harder than some of the boy groups. I hope you continue reacting to them and I hope somebody in your Patreon knows what to ask for next. :)

Dreamcatcher is still an insider tip - unfortunately. They have been active since 2017 and have released tons of great songs. They don't get much attention in Korea because they don't like anything heavier there. It doesn't matter, they are now valued for that, especially in America and Europe.
Allow me to make a few recommendations: "Wind blows" (Play color version), "Odd eye", "Vision" and "BEcause".
B-sides maybe "Fairytale", "Red sun" and "Black and white". Actually, everything else is good too, without exaggeration. And thank you for your entertaining review of "Scream".
PS: Dreamcatcher will release their new album on May 24th. Maybe have a listen. Best wishes from Germany.

Dreamcatcher are unique in Kpop for their use of rock and metal in their songs. Hip hop, trap, and rap are quite common among boy groups, but Koreans have never liked rock music. Dreamcatcher take a little bit of something from most American music genres and mix it up with a heart of rock and the strong melodies that Kpop is known for. They're more popular outside of South Korea than in because of their use of rock in their songs. Their popularity in South Korea is growing though and driven more by their personalities and extreme on and off stage charisma than the music.
The big difference between dreamcatcher and most kpop Bands they always change their style. They mix kpop with synth Rock, edm and even Rock/metal and that's why they're so unique.
