About a year ago at one of Steve's shows, my body chemistry randomly decided that on this particular night, 3 drinks would be enough to put me in a state of black-out drunkenness and I made a complete ass out of myself right in the front row. I'm pretty sure I ruined every bit of footage he was trying to film that night. Every once in a while, brief glimpses of my memory come back from that night of the look I got from Steve at the end of the night and I'm here to say that not a single drop of alcohol has touched my lips since going to Steve's show. Still a big fan of the man and watch every video he posts and looking forward to seeing him again if he ever tours near my area again. I wonder how many other people out there Steve has helped sober up with his unique instrumentation of language.
Good on you. I've done the exact same thing at a live stand up comedy show. Felt like a total ass the next day, especially because I was in university and two dozen of my peers were there with me at the time to witness my drunken stupidity. It takes a big person to admit their mistakes and learn from them. Never stop learning.
Over serving is very common in bars and clubs, because it can be hard to prove little can be done and the servers live off of tips so there’s that too. DUI sentences should include a mandatory visit to the coroners to assist in an autopsy to help reassemble the remains of a body mangled in a DUI fatality. Maybe a ride-a-long with a rescue crew to hear the painful moans of a barely alive occupant calling out for their dead friend during the extraction?
Half of me wants the hecklers to stop and respect your show. The other half loves it so intensely I want it to happen more. He's just so good at destroying them.
I love that dude was literally instantly like oh no as soon as steve looked up during the merch pitch lol i have been to comedy shows but i don't want someone who is witty for a living and holding a mic to be mad at me while they are doing their thing you should know ahead of time that will cause embarrassment
Had the opportunity to see you when you hosted Comedy Juice on Wednesday nights here in LA years ago and had the chance to talk to you in person after the show. I think part of the problem is that crowd work videos do well on social media and as a result are disproportionately seen compared to the rest of the show. As a result, some people think the whole set is like that.
Christopher Titus has a good bit about dealing with hecklers on one of his specials, where he includes the phrase, "How 'bout you take a long drink of a shut the f*** up?" I've seen some of Kyle Kinane's heckler takedowns, he's rather merciless too. Steve here is a lot nicer than many hecklers deserve.
This is one of the reasons why I like watching sets on the "Dry bar comedy" YT channel. The audience ISN'T in a bar that just happens to have comedies on, they go to the venue purely to watch comedy shows............ Hofstetter has at least one full set uploaded on there, and it's well worth watching.
"Purple!" "Light purple!" LOL. Clips at the bottom of a Jack Daniel's bottle lol And John's line about the IP lawyer was fantastic. At least the three comics were funny because those ppl chiming in from the audience were not
Steve, thank you for this video. I'm so glad to see a video from you that isn't a 2-minute short of stage game show stuff. I know a bunch of people like that, and it's still good material, but it's too short! I love your longer stuff, especially when you show a heckler the error of his ways. If you ever get into the Philly area, I'd love to see a show, but the chances are small since I'm disabled and don't travel much anymore. But I did want to let you know that these videos are among my favorites of yours. They make me laugh, and that's rare these days. Your specials are AMAZING, top of the line, truly works of comedic art. But the 10-15 minute videos are, to me, just the right length. You've got them dialed in and they're wonderful. Thank you so much for these.
I would love to come to a live show, but honestly I never go out much anymore. This is as close as I will probably ever get to one of your shows, but I can tell I would have a grand time there! Love your humor and that of the gentlemen you perform with. Thank you so much for sharing this with us!
If you have someone that likes him as well, you should team up and go to a show. I have pretty severe depression and anxiety, and a friend talked me into a Greg Davies show, since I’m madly in love with him. It was amazing and I’m so glad I did it. If you don’t like attention, I suggest middle to back seating, and if you’re like me and hate going past people, grab an aisle seat as well. Makes it much better if you need a break. 🥰
Really hope I can catch your show in KC soon! I'd be surprised if you got any trouble at the KC stop -- but maybe another challenger will present themselves. I hope not -- while I love your shutdowns, I truly enjoy your sets in their intended form. You're a damn great writer and a truly awesome comedian. Thanks for all the joy during lockdowns!

i see all these heckler videos. 1st stand up comedy show i ever saw was at my college auditorium in 1997. college paid some guy to come so students had free show. i was sitting front row and at time didnt realize being a heckler at a stand up show was even a thing. i wasnt trying to be a jerk. i just had adhd or add or something back before those were things. i forget what it was but i said something out loud in response to comics joke. i got some laughs. then comic spent next 5 minutes roasting me and omg it was the funniest thing ever. i could not stop laughing! the crowd loved it too. i was the cool kid the next day. i forget who it was and he was real funny but i think i made show even better. he was good to come up with all that stuff on the spot too. i finally met my match on trash talking. 1 my best memories of college. im so happy he made fun of me instead of tossing me out cause i really was enjoying the show. i just had a problem with blurting things out sometimes. i enjoyed the show more after he made fun of me. i felt special like i was part of the act.
You may think you made the show better, but please wait for the performer to invite interaction. It must be quite frustrating to be in the middle of a carefully polished memorized story and have someone interrupt.
