Thank you for this review, it is refreshing to hear such a review from a man because so far I’ve seen a lot of reviews by men saying how the representation is not “realistic”, because all the men in the movie are creeps. But I feel like that is the whole point. And unfortunately, it’s not even about decisions, sometimes, as a woman, in certain phases of your life you will be surrounded by creeps, it has happened to me as well. It is literally all about being lucky in a patriarchal system, what I liked even more was how the seemingly “nice guy”, is actually the worst one, and it kind of encapsulates the whole essence of the film, and it just shows a dynamic that happens even now in real life. Like, how men sometimes ask you out on a date and when you say no they get upset at you for saying no, or how paying dinner is supposed to be a way for also paying for other things. This movie just shows this kind of dynamics, in another setting and another time. The movie was terrifying, I feel like the most scary part was the parking lot scene, I’ve rarely seen any other movie depicting something like that in such a raw and direct way.
I agree! It absolutely happens sometimes where almost every guy in your life for a time will be a creep, creepy or dangerous in some way. It's terrifying and overwhelming and women shouldn't be shamed for acknowledging that.
Wow awesome I absolutely love your analysis and review. It's soo nice to see men express genuine understanding of women's issues, very commendable and I legit feel lighter after this video because of it.
Excellent review, insightful and accurate. Thank you. The way women are expected to smile and laugh and make men feel comfortable, even desired, despite the women's own feelings of discomfort, lack of interest, and even fear is real! Ask any woman. Most, if not all will tell you she has experienced this. Potentially most of these victims could have and should have been protected. They would have been sheltered from this monster if the men holding the power had listened, cared, and done their jobs.
I so agree with your points! You summed this up very beautifully. I did not enjoy the non linear timeline, but your explanation helps it make sense a little more. I enjoyed this movie a lot and cant wait to see what else Anna Kendrick puts out!! subscribeddd
As if movies play true to the facts, especially Hollywood movies. I was of dating age back then. The emerging serial killer trend against women was chilling to live through. Women are not safe. You learn the tricks to stay alert to your surroundings. Youthful naivete and gullibility in women can be dangerous. Still, today, if I have to walk at night, I walk far from bushes, even in the middle of the road. Women read 'The Gift of Fear' by Gavin de Becker.
We still do that, It's important (when alone walking) to not to leave earbuds/headphones in, or keep them low enough to hear something as light as footsteps. Although I was speaking to my relative and she was saying her kids (kids in general) and young women with overbearing parents, wouldn't know how to get away If they were being followed or chased, and likely just stand there shocked. When we were kids, we knew how to jump over gates like nothing' and weave between houses\buildings with stealth. Shoot, we did it for fun anyway. We knew the neighborhoods in and out.
You are very self aware and insightful. Thank you for this very honest and transparent review. The audacity of this man is what’s so horrific bc how many men like him have gotten away with behavior like this?
I have to say I didn't watch it because I knew it didn't happen like that as I watch a lot of crime docs. So was interested to see what someone thought about it. Still won't watch it probably as it gets people to believe things which didn't happen.
To each their own, I personally believe a movie should have full ability to tell the story it chooses and not be dictated by truth, but totally understand why the approach would annoy people
About 20 minutes in to this movie even my wife was put off by how every single male character was being portrayed. She's not even the type to analyze movies, it was just painfully obvious. This is a very poorly written movie. Some of the acting was ok.

Guy who’s never heard of google or media literacy before
I thought it was okay...very Lifetime-ish but not horrible.

Girl what?! Your wife has a problem with men acting like the creeps that they are? 🙄
