What Islam really says about women | Alaa Murabit

  • Alaa Murabit's family moved from Canada to Libya when she was 15. Before, she’d felt equal to her brothers, but in this new environment she sensed big prohibitions on what she could accomplish. As a proud Muslim woman, she wondered: was this really religious doctrine? With humor, passion and a refreshingly rebellious spirt, she shares how she discovered examples of female leaders from across the history of her faith - and how she launched a campaign to fight for women's rights using verses directly from the Koran.

I'm an anything and it's perfect dont point out it's flaws though plz it's my fault it's not perfect after all... that's you if you didnt catch it. No religion is perfect they all have flaws because they were created by men like you. Know if you want to say god is perfect fine but you can't say god supports your religion because your religion isn't perfect and god is.

Equal to allah meaning if a man lied and a woman done the same they both have done the same mistake ,
The men and women are deferent , (iam a girl btw ) Women have different bodies than men. When you see videos of awards ceremonies, actors, you will find that men wear almost the same clothes (at most) and women wear different and immodest clothes to attract attention The question here is why men do not do the same ؟

She is a moslem woman who really inspires me that parental education based on her religion can make us be a strong women and able to uphold justice. With strong determination and direct verses of the Qur'an, she was able to launch a campaign to fight for women's rights. She searched for information about women leaders throughout Islamic history and she found Siti Khadijah as an innovative, strong politically, economically and even military woman leader. That's why she can fight for women's rights, because her base information is very strong and real.

so please read this verse and also the verse before it in order to know the truth, also if it meant what you said that means that there wouldn't be any unbeliever on earth especially during the Islamic caliphate.
the second verse is about men and women, it doesn't mean that men have authority, it means that men are ordered to provide safety and welfare for their wives and they are responsible, also the ironic thing that this verse is in chapter 4 which is called (women), so please check your information, May God guide you and me to the righteous path bro.

Abir Abirus in reply to your first comment:
so Allah made men superior to women on a muscular level, Allah was being unequal then.
In response to the second comment in that case the Qur'an isn't truely inspired word from your god, it is at most a bit of that with alot of contextual teachings mixed in. A true book of Allah's wants (is he wanted equality) would say to pay men and women equal and make them both work equally. Also your point is invalid, that doesn't mean that men would get more, if they were paid equal then the man would use a bit on himself and pay the rest to the children and the women would use the same sized 'bit' on herself and pay the rest to the children. Even if the man worked and then payed more to the children later, this would be not reason for the initial bias.

The hijab's purpose came to be because women of low status or slaves were taken advantage of at night. Since their attire was different from free women who could not be harassed because of their status( they had power to take the offenders to trial)The quran commanded the women to cover their heads and chest with a Khimar, the same way the free women did.
That way, offenders would not be able to differentiate between them at night and would think twice before harassing them k.
So yes the hijab's first purpose was to equalize btwn women of different status and to protect them from harassment.
Of course, some humans are evil no matter what, but It was an effective way to ward the creeps off at the time.

    Women in Islam
    - Heaven is under the feet of your mother
    - Whoever raises their daughters well will go to heaven
    - Mehr (dowry) is GIVEN to the wife, not to her family
    - A woman’s husband cannot force her to have children
    - Men are not allowed to hit their wives despite what many people think Islam says
    - Seeking knowledge is mandatory to everyone including women
    - A man has to spend the money he makes on his family, but the money a woman makes belongs to her, and she doesn’t have to spend it on anyone but herself, and if she spends it on her family, she gets rewarded
    - Men are commanded to lower their gaze (look away) whenever they see a woman who is not a family member or wife
    - The point of Muslim women wearing the hijab is so that others would judge her based on personality rather than appearance
    - On his death bed, Prophet Muhammad (s) said, “Take care of the women” several times throughout his life
    - The prophet used to help his wives with the housework
    - Khadija (r) proposed to Prophet Muhammad (s), not the other way around
    - Aisha (r) was one of the most important Islamic scholars
    - Sumayyah bint Khabbat was the first martyr in Islam
    - Fatima al-Fihri was the founder of the first university
So, to the many people in the comments, stop being racist and ignorant and do your research.

Just then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak. 21 She said to herself, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.”
Jesus turned and saw her. “Take heart, daughter,” he said, “your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed at that moment.

Just my opinion and no hate please
So here's the difference between a man and a woman
If you a woman and you wear hijab, but accidentally your hair is showed a little, and here you go, you will have the whole entire community attacking you mainly men as always
And they will "advice" how to wear it properly while themselves sin a lot even bigger than this
And if you see for a man, actually according to the dress code a man should cover his knees
But you will see men wearing shorts that doesn't cover their knees, but you will notice that they won't get attacked or something
But if someone notice he will obviously tell him that he shouldn't wear this but they will never be harsh over the man compare to the woman
    So, it's sad but true.
It's true that they will be harsh over the woman who accidentally her hair is showed very little compare to the man, they will never be that harsh for showing up his knees
Thank you so much for reading, have a good day !

    What she does is, has and will always be done by religions and all group ideologies for that matter;
*1) generalize*, speak from authority and in terms of facts (like
the title of the video) on topics that are quite obviously matters of opinions and interpretations...
Also don't even mention clear longstanding disagreements and debates,
just tell your view and of those who agree.
*2) but only do that when it suits your argument;* so it's "Islam/Christianity/Feminism" when
you're talking about something positive and accepted by wider society and it's "in the name of Islam/Christianity/Feminism"
or "some people" or "many who misinterpret/don't understand their own belief"
(blind assertions with no proof why your interpretation is apparently the correct one and not a distortion itself)
when it's something negative that clashes with society.
This to white-wash your ideology and many of its supporters (not merely a minority of extremists)
and chalk it all up to "misunderstandings/abuse"
*3) disregard both traditional as well as widespread other interpretations*
(already done implicitly using method 1 and 2) with non sequiturs and other fallacies
like giving examples of yourself or other people who believe a nicer interpretation,
without any reason why that's a more 'true' interpretation than so many others have,
including many leaders and scholars in your own movement/ideology with
much more knowledge on the topics.
*4) mislabel secularism, social progress and liberalism (moving on from and re-interpreting problematic texts)*
as something that was the 'true' and correct interpretation all along,
    usually again with no proof.
*5)* if you do make at least an attempt (although disingenuously) at proving why it's not
changing problematic beliefs but really 'understanding' what was meant all along, you do it by
*ignoring clear and specific texts and teachings* and cherry-pick some ambiguous/less specific nicer parts that
either don't even disprove whatever problematic teaching you were trying to disprove or - at best - would
prove a contradiction, which you don't believe in so it's more likely that it wasn't actually talking about the same thing after-all..
..but who cares, the audience who buys into it wants to believe there's nothing wrong with these ideologies,
only with individual people, and isn't interested
in critical thinking and honestly looking at the root of problems to begin with.
    *6) misrepresent critics.*
One typically dishonest and fallacious one is saying the people
who don't blindly buy into the idea that your white-washed interpretation is the 'true' one
(and everybody else is just 'confused') is by likening those critics to the people who believe
in the problematic version, who you label ignorant, extremists and literalists or 'confused' while failing
to prove your own view was anything more than just a white-washed re-interpretation
(and often while you actually embrace them as true believers all the time, outside these disingenuous
    apologist PR talks).
Somehow in order to move on, we shouldn't reform problematic ideologies,
no, you have to believe - without proof, without question - that there was never
anything wrong with the ideology in question to begin with and the root of the problem
isn't (in part or mostly) the ideology and its texts but simply 'confused/misinformed' people,
or else you're just like those who hold those problematic views or a bigot/racist..somehow

    • @HaganeNoGijutsushi
      @HaganeNoGijutsushi 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Robert LC - Digital Artist That is pretty much how ideologies and ways of life that are thousands of years old still somehow manage to get by even in this day and age. It all boils down to the presence of God really - if the religion wasn't supposed to come from God and hence infallible there would be no problem just reforming it like it happens with any other political/philosophical belief.
But all in all, I think it's better this way. At least people kind of rationalize and de facto separate their personal need to believe in a higher spiritual truth from their common sense that tells them how they should live. Is it a reasoning full of No-True-Scotsmen (well... Muslims, in this case)? Absolutely, but the fallacy is introduced basically to justify a need for a conclusion that is somewhat irrational in itself - namely, the existence of God. A need that some people feel (though I personally don't). So it's still better this way, at least bend the ideology to serve the needs of mankind than the other way around, enslaving mankind to the literally interpreted words of a parchment written by some Middle Ages or Bronze Age guy.

+Aisha Hirani You are incredibly ignorant. First of all evolution is a theory in the scientific sense:
"A scientific theory is a *well-substantiated* explanation of some aspect of the natural world that is acquired through the scientific method and repeatedly tested and confirmed through observation and experimentation."
In other words, saying, saying evolution (not Darwin) is just a theory is like saying it is just the most well confirmed explanation there is. Evolution IS a fact, it's not a matter of belief, it's true whether you believe it or not. It is CLOSER to the truth than a "historical fact". "Historical facts" are actually things we know from what is written in books years ago, in other words those are eye witnesses account. Eye witnesses is one of the *lowest* form of evidence, while evolution has the *highest* forms of evidence backing it up. This book is just a book, and there are countless other books countaining more truths and knowledge than it. Yet it claims to hold the perfect true divine word, it's a disgusting pretentious book.

    • @Sayfway
      @Sayfway 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

2CSST2 I just read your comment and thought I'd mention something.
The reason most Muslims reject the Darwinistic theory of Evolution is because it states (or is commonly thought to state) that humans evolved from apes, or another species entirely.
However, despite that most Muslim scholars reject this idea, they do agree that the first human is different in a variety of ways than the human today and has evolved through time.
We (many of the educated ones of us anyway) agree that man has evolved greatly, yet just reject the fact that we came from another species. Humans evolved in the structure of their skeletons, their brain capacity, their environmental tolerance, their tolerance of certain diets and conditions, their sizes even.
That's all I wanted to say. We believe in the concept of evolution, just not the idea that we evolved from another species entirely.

@@abdalrahman4969 not really, she just cited that there are muslim women who are strong and leaders and so on. This does *not* imply anything about their religion. The point being just because theses minority of women exist does not mean the cause is islam. Khadija for exemple had the money thats all, another women for exemple had strong sense of equality sure, or strong personality. This however doesnt imply it's islam's doing. And to be faire she only cherry picked hadith and verses.
Anyways i think this is a typical exemple of someone wanting something to be true (while being influenced with their *personal* experience *) rather the thing itself being true.

"It is true that you have rights over women, but the women also have rights over you." - Prophet Muhammad (s.a.a.w.s.) in his last sermon
Those saying she can't give this talk in other Muslim countries are just confirming her point exactly.
Just to make it clear for the easily confused, this is her point: These so-called Muslim countries have perverted the message of Islam so much because only men get to interpret the scripture. And that has nothing to do with scripture (i.e., the main source of the religion). BECAUSE WHEN YOU EXAMINE THE SCRIPTURE ITSELF, IT UPHOLDS THE RIGHTS OF WOMEN.
So yeah, I agree that some "Muslim" countries would frown upon this discussion. But THAT IS EXACTLY HER POINT. They frown upon women's rights because they are interpreting Islam wrongly.

i dont understand how ppl thinks that its alllll the damn time women are innocent. ..even being a girl...i think i am hating women because i was bullied by jealous , envious, toxic bitches at university. i know not all were bad... but majority were so damn jealous of me... whenever i see a women suffer anything. ..i dont have sympathy for her because what happened to me by girls makes me hate women so much. stop trying to defend women everywhere. . some are really as cruel as men or mothrr in law or whatever. i am very much done with girls... now i am ignoring them avoiding them..now those bitches themselves come towards me because they are affected by my ignoring them. but ill continue to ignore them to make them.. its quite sad but because of my experience i dont feel empathy for girls. please all of u stop acting like its women who are best everytime, everywhere. . some are very professional jealous bitches also..

You are mad and have the right to be. But as woman your rule it’s to show an example. There even evil men on this world. Sometimes they are more concentrated in one place lol. But the point of this video is more defined, she is talking about a specific people. I hesr you when you said that I just don’t think you should have comment on this comment and even this video lol. I do think Islam is a peaceful religion it's just the people who ruin it and give it and give it a bad example. I'm not trying to hate on Islam i'm glad to be in this religion but how men treat women in this religion is not okay us women in Islam should be treated the same as men. We should not be controlled, abused, (etc). I am not trying to offend anyone i'm just giving my personal opinion and share what i think.

Here is an idea: Why don't you go do a video on the church and put up verses that tell Christians to commit genocide...the ones that told the conquistadors it was okay to butcher your ancestors in the Americas because the "savages" didn't have souls.
Spanish Central America is the deadliest place in the world for women being killed due to domestic violence as well as drug gang related violence.
It has become a cliche that Eastern Europeans regularly beat their women in Vodka related violence; although alcohol abuse is usually a big reason for divorce.
I grew up watching COPS -- do you know how many domestic violence cases shown on a daily basis?
My point is not to point out Christian or Jewish or Hindu or Budhist faults....but rather that Humans make mistakes and all religious texts have been corrupted over the centuries with Human adding and taking away from the true message of peace found in the religious text -- except Quran -- 1400 years of preservation of each and every letter.
