Nas just did 6 albums in 3 years at the age of 50 magic1,Magic2, Magic3,Kings disease 1,KD2 and KD3 and they all are classics he's been rapping for 30 years and he still on his game Nas is the GOAT 🐐 you'll understand as you get deeper into his discography
You should continue the Nas journey thru his Catelogue. It was Written was his 2nd album. His lyricism went up another level and his content expands to a more worldly relm.
Great review. You have to check out Big Pun - Capital Punishment. He was one of the best lyricists. Nas had to change a verse when they collaborated in "John Blaze" because of how good Pun's verse was.
We need his next album "It Was Written" next!!!! Also, we definitely need "I Gave You Power" - one of the most creative songs ever! Great reaction though 🔥🔥🔥
The rhyme schemes used to be much more complicated in the 90s compared to today. They rhymed more used harder words and had originality. Today there are still rappers on that level like kendrick, j cole, denzel curry, jid and more but the average rapper today is worse than the average rapper back then. I also recommend reacting to Big L album The Big Picture or Lifestyle ov da poor and dangerous. They are bangers with constant punchlines and you won't regret it.
The “It was written” album and the Illmatic album are the 2 best Nas albums. People often argue which one is better. When Nas made “It was written” his intention was not to make an illmatic 2, but to bring flows, concepts, and lyrics that have never been done before by any one in rap. I think he succeeded. That album has words that exceeded the vocabulary of the average rapper of that time. I recommend using a dictionary if you listen to any songs off that album because they are very complex.
@ …It depends on who you ask My favorite Nas album is Stillmatic. I know people who are divided between it was written and Illmatic. Lupe Fiasco has said It was written is his favorite and gave a detailed explanation why. Not arguing if Illmatic is the best.
Illmatic was watershed moment in hip hop. There really is the before and after Illmatic. There were great MCs prior but Nas really elevated what being a lyricist is with this one. Personally I don’t think anyone ever really topped lyrically what Nas did on this and his next album It Was Written. Closest was perhaps Biggie but 30 years later despite so many great rappers, nothing really ever got this level again. Eminem mentioned a rhyme scheme once from the song Halftime and basically said ‘there’s rhyme schemes on Halftime, rappers still to this day can’t do’
Nah. No limit hot boys and lil Jon probably did more to shape modern rap. This era was the climax of east coast hip hop artistically. If you go check, it wasn't really listened to by people outside of the east coast back then. This album took seven years to go platinum. Same for the infamous, only built for Cuban links, reasonable doubt, etc. The best analogy is classic rock
Oh yeah I forgot sooo… Q Tip is a legendary member of the group A Tribe Called Quest (their Midnight Marauders album is top 10 album in my option, they have their own sound), “Son of Sam” was a mass murderer back in the late 80’s I believe, and the mention of BDP (KRS 1) and Roxann Shante was referring to an old school rap beef between the Bronx and Queens…
This was the esoteric street warrior vibe from the 90's NY Hip-hop scene. If you like Illmatic then check out these albums: Gza - Liquid Swords Ghostface Killah - Iron Man ODB - Return to the 36 Chambers Gangstarr - Daily Operation (Primo = DJ Premiere. He started here.) If you want to go real old school lyrical battle rap then listen to both versions of LL Cool J - Rock the Bells & the remix. Basically 2 totally different songs but hard for the 80's.
You already started with NaS first album. You might as well react to his sophomore more album, IT WAS WRITTEN next & keep going on through the journey in chronological order. 🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🐐
Just watching vid and great reaction. There were punchline rappers around (check Big L) but Nas was never really a punchline rapper. He obviously had some great ones but his style way more storytelling and rhyming about life in his projects with great technical ability (flow, rhyme scheme).
Illmatic is my favorite but “It Was Written” is a more polished Nas… Illmatic was literally the transition from Old School to New School, Rakim and Kool G Rap I’m sure had an influence on him but Nas raised the bar with his story telling and flow, and even though there is a gangster vibe he also added a conscious context to it as well… His influence on rappers to come after him goes without saying. 🐐

There is a documentary on TH-cam called "Time Is Illmatic." Its fascinating. It talks about Nas growing up. Maybe do a reaction.
The 🐐, all of Nas albums are incredible, as you grow you will understand, his albums are ahead of their time.

Nas is the best living rapper. This is a classic album on every level.

Another classic

Bro I didn’t like you skipping the end of the songs, like that trumpet solo on life’s a bitch, glad you liked it tho
Best reaction video I have seen...
Nas wrote this album when he was like 16 or 17 years old. And it is ONE of the greatest hip hop albums of all time, to this day.
Nas is the one who brought rhyming and lyrics in this time which changed how other rappers rhymes

Ye I would say kool g rap was the main influence
It was written, lost tapes, stillmatic, gods son, distant relatives, life is good, all the magic and kings diseases are must !!

ILLMATIC = THE BIBLE OF RAP MUSIC
🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🐐
When you get a chance, watch the NaS documentary called,
TIME IS ILLMATIC
🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🐐
I think you skipped the end of Life’s a bitch !! The trumpet playing at the end is Nas’s father!!
You need to listen to The Notorious B.I.G. - Ready to Die and Life after Death. Both are amazing albums.
Just watching vid and great reaction. There were punchline rappers around (check Big L) but Nas was never really a punchline rapper. He obviously had some great ones but his style way more storytelling and rhyming about life in his projects with great technical ability (flow, rhyme scheme).
When he said he's out for presidents to represent him he means money cuz all presidents are on paper currency
Nas one of the favourite Eminem rappers growing up
You need to start listening to notorious b.I.g or biggie smalls some say the best rapper of all time
New York State of mind was recorded in 1 take lol that’s why he says in the beginning “I dunno how to start this”
J - COLE is a NaS fan.
