That was the level of rhyming back then, you gotta realize that just in this same city at the same time, people were listening to new verses from Biggie, Nas, and Jay Z. So its not crazy that the radio hosts here said the first verse was pretty good.

Nas's style on this album is not very punchline heavy, its more focused on storytelling. This album takes you back to his life and his neighborhood. You can SEE it through his poetry.

The other thing that makes this album the GOAT is the producers Nas got to make his beats, its a who's who of NYC producers of the time. Large Professor, DJ Premiere, and Pete Rock are the big 3.
