You got that right......ribs are hurting from laying on the door frame and kneeling on a replacement knee is no fun either. I replaced that screw with a slotted head sheet metal screw and used about an 8" long screwdriver instead of an allen wrench.
Leave it to an American engineer. All my cars were Japanese or Korean and they were all in the glove compartment. Super easy. This is the most complicated way. Just horrible. Glad I don’t buy American!
I recently was working on my in-laws 2013 Escape. I learned one thing and that is I will never own a Ford. Everything but the brakes seems to be ridiculous.
I just changed the filter in my fiancé’s Escape. The filter that was in the car was backwards. Your video was not only helpful in showing where the filter was, but also in determining which direction the filter was supposed to face. Not really sure what the difference it makes since there isn’t a support on one side, but I did it right. Thanks!
@@tinman9093 So if both of you found filters installed backward...was that done originally or has the filter been changed before and someone other than the factory put it in backward?
@@tinman9093 Good call probably being a used car. I suppose the previous owner didn't have this great video to watch before changing it. I hope it wasn't done by someone that should have known better but in this day and age, you never know.
Third video I've watched for this task because others were poor description, no lighting. Thanks for clear instructions along with the tips and tricks.
Dear PYR Automotive and Ford... my replacement filter did not bend like this video. I did manage to find Fords little sharp pieces all in the fuse area. I'm attaching my Man-Card, as it may be invalid now. BTW, THIS VIDEO WAS GREAT! Helped me bunches. Thank you.
This video provides very clear instruction. Unfortunately it is super difficult to do yourself due to very tight and awkward location of the air filter - really bad car design to make it so difficult to change air filter.
The worst cabin air filter design Ford could have ever thought of. All the dirt gets trapped in that channel and there's no easy way to access it and vacuum it or whatever. Jeep Wrangler is worse, they don't even give you an air filter from the factory on the sport model. Prob same on other models too. Car manufacturers are scammers
Commenting to say THANK YOU for this vid! I have a 2019 Escape, and your clear, concise instructions helped me change the cabin air filter myself. $15 for the filter, and about $20 for the screwdriver set; I saved a LOT of money!
You saved me, I had a whistling noise that was loud and driving me crazy. I followed your instructions and replaced the filter. Now its virtually silent. Thanks for posting this video.
My sister has really bad allergies & asthma so im going to change out the filter on her 2014 escape. This looks pretty wonky trying to get the filter back in. But, definitely looks easier than changing the filter on my 2019 fusion. Check out a video on that. Ford definitely gets a big "F" on this design
Such BullSh*t that Ford chose to use a Torx screw to hold on the access piece. The average Joe doesn't have a Torx bit set. I'd just yank the old filter out and not put another in. Cars didn't have these filters until now. Just another government mandated gimmick.
Excellent vid.... But that fliter housing door tho.... Had to get right up in there to see of the top pin was interfering with the sealing of the door.... Ford engineering 👎... OP's video 👍
Why did they need to make those screws be a pain in the ass to get to. All the old cars I've ever changed these on popped out of a plastic holder, like a refrigerator
Only ford would design something like this! CRV is in glovebox and takes less than a minute! This and battery placement on escape is why i didn’t buy another one.
Ford makes everything difficult to do on the escapes....had to do a battery change and it was a pain to do had remove wipers just to get to the battery.....anything to get more money out of the customers
Best video ever. I put my laptop on passenger seat to replace cabin air filter on my 2019 Ford Escape SE just now. No way I could have done it without this video. Thanks, brotha! Oh. When I removed old filter, it was clear Jiffy Lube installed old one upside down, and 1/4 of it was bunched up like an accordion. Glad I can do this myself now, the right way.
This was an excellent overview, providing step-by-step instruction, and tips on what to watch for in the process. We were changing the Cabin Air Filter for our 2017 Ford Escape. Everything experienced in completing the replacement was “as shown” and (as you mentioned) inserting the new filter was the most difficult step. Much appreciated and well done with your video! 👍👍
I have a 2019 Escape and it seemed that the space was a bit more constrained. I had to do most of the work by “feel”. But I got er done. Considering the dealer wanted $60 to replace this item, I think I save myself quite a bit of money. Thank you.
Thanks for the video! Decided to change the cabin filter on a road trip due to a musty smell. Had a small biodiversity that only had flathead and Phillip so I grabbed a t20 bit with the filter at the parts store we stopped at! Thanks again!
@@PYR-Auto thanks for your reply. I bought the screwdriver as you suggested. Took out the thingy under the glove box. Looked for the screw....keep in mind....this is a 2019 Ford Escape....no screw! I was worried about it being screwed in too tight but...no screw. I did get the little door thingy off and now I'm waiting for the filter to arrive tomorrow. The old filter is fairly dirty. But, my question is: if they forgot to put a screw in there...where else on this car are screws missing?!?!? Oh well, at least I didn't have to struggle with a too tight screw 😁 The dealership said it would cost $60....I'm doing it for under $20, thanks to your GREAT video! Where should I send a tip?
Thank you, thank you, thank you. Perfectly done video. Clear. Concise. Well lit. Dealer wanted $128 to do this job. Had been searching for this how-to video & you sir, should be commended here for a job well done. TY!
Looks simple enough. My only fear is making sure the filter expands once you put it the slot. So I started to do this and noticed the cover and clips were missing. Any idea where I can buy replacement parts?
Leave it to an engineer to put that in such an awkward spot

As a woman this *almost dumbed it down enough for me. I spent 15 mins trying to put the cover on backwards. 10/10 would follow again.

This is how you change the Ford Fusion cabin air filter. Lol
Just pull the filter out and run it without one. It's government mandated crap.
Very good job showing & talking through how replace the cabin filter. 5 Stars
Thanks!
Terrible location and design from Ford

What’s the name of the screwdriver set?
Agreed. Very well done. (commenting to give the algorthym a bump)

Truly, made it super easy - for one of the most poorly designed vehicles in history. Bumping for algorithm, as well.

Are the filters designed to whistle when dirty? Some furnaces do that.

Explained well, but damn who designed this it's so hard to change lol.
Could you share the size (thread diameter and length) of the screw to fix the cover, mine is missing and want to buy a new one
not sure on that
This was the best help video I found. Step by step. Giving the 20 torx size was great. Thank you

Ford absolutely sucks for the design of this.
I went in for an oil change and Ford offered this service for $119 lmao.

1/4 inch straight blade works on the torx.
Use it for oil change.
