When I first time saw Miracle, I was expecting also match against Finland, because I knew it would be the last one. Of course the dramatic arc of movie demanded that the match against Soviet Union was the climax, and of course it was, but it would have been nice to see also something about match USA-Finland. Instead it was only mentioned. As I said, I don't remember exact words, but I am positive that he said how they made sure winning the gold against Finland, as they did. He said "complete", if I remember correctly, so it may have been just as you said.

    I thought I remember Nelson Mandela’s entire NHL career. Born in Montreal, Nelson Mandela fell in love with the game of hockey. His father wanted him to be a barber tho so there was some conflict there. But Nelson Mandela wanted to be a hockey player. Despite his fathers plea to go to barber school, he got drafted 19th overall to the new Edmonton Oilers out of the WHA. Some people report a guy named Wayne Gretzky playing on that team. Mandela claims that they were a victim of the Gretzky effect. After setting record after record with Edmonton, he was traded to Pittsburgh for Babe Ruth. Alongside Claude Lemieux and Jaromir Iginla, they led Pittsburgh to 5 straight Stanley Cups from 1991 to 1996. But after a Stanley Cup Final loss, Mandela would get a new personal coach, John Cena. Known as one of the greatest coaches in the history of sports, Cena took on a challenge by training the top NHL player to go to the next level despite not knowing how to skate. Cena was soon fired by Mandela. Gary Bettman took over along with Adam Silver. He wasn’t protected during the 1998 Expansion Draft involving the new Alabama Panthers due to an off season fight with Wayne Yzerman over a golfing match. The Panthers would win 3 cups in a row with Mandela. He then got traded to Montreal. His hometown team. His father found out about the trade and used the time he had in Montreal to question Mandela’s decision to not be a barber. Montreal finally got their first cup in their long franchise history with Mandela. After that, Nelson Mandela the hockey player, decided to listen to his father and become Nelson Mandela the barber. He was last seen cutting hair at a Montreal Barber Shop with no mention of his illustrious NHL career and going under the name Rick Astley. His slogan is: “I’m never gonna give your hair up!”

    I remember the USA had to beat Finland on Sunday to win gold. The 1980 USSR team was beating NHL teams by multiple goals, so when the USA beat them it was a huge letdown for the USSR. You have a great channel, great content, and I too and a life long Wings fan. HOWEVER, none of these are Mandela effects! There is a fine line between misconceptions and Mandela effects! Mandela effects are exact memories shared my millions and in some cases billions of people that 100% are sure they remember things different than how supposedly they actually happened. things like people assumed beating the Soviet’s for a gold medal is just a misconception shared typically by non hockey fans! big difference! However, still a good video! Mandela effect is real BTW. I don’t care what anyone says, Luke I am you’re father was the line! There is no way every person in history who’s watched that movie and made that line so popular just remembered it wrong! For fuck sake they made Chris farly say that exact line in another movie! Now what I think is going on? No idea. But the effect is real! It’s not a lie or anything! “Like WAS like a box of chocolates?”. Lol BS, we all just remember that wrong too I guess! every parody of that scene or comedy sketch done about that scene says “IS”. This is not directed toward this video! I’m just adding this because I’ve seen people say the effect is bogus but can’t explain it! I’ve subscribed to you’re channel btw. Go wings

    • @PabloGonzalez-hv3td
      @PabloGonzalez-hv3td 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      But if Chris Farley says the actual line "no I am your father" the audience wouldn't have a clue it's a Star Wars reference so it had to be adjusted for context. It doesn't really prove anything.

    • @111voodoo
      @111voodoo 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The question is why would people think it’s “Luke” and not “no” to begin with with? That’s the entire point. You have millions upon millions upon millions who remember the same line the same way! Not a couple people. I’ve literally never heard ANYONE ever say “no”. Why? Becusse that’s what everybody heard

    • @PabloGonzalez-hv3td
      @PabloGonzalez-hv3td 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@111voodoo Ever seen an optical illusion? Millions upon millions see one thing when it's really another. The fact millions are fooled doesn't prove anything.
      "Luke I am your father" doesn't even mesh with the dialogue preceding it. People added it to tie it to Star Wars and repeated it so much they forget the actual line.

    • @thetalkingstick9214
      @thetalkingstick9214 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      False memories, something created accidentally as a error, or misremembering. I just explained the Mandela effect as far as our limitations of knowledge in our current time. Just because millions of people misremember something or believe it doesn’t make it true, millions believe that God created humans perfectly, but a mad scientist decided to tried to this aswell and accidentally created other things that look like and acted perfectly like humans but were actually devils, but thankfully you could tell the difference because the devils had white skin and the “perfect beings from God” had skin that was any other color darker than white. I’ve seen people say this is bogus but can’t disprove it! ....see what I did there? Just because something isn’t actually provable doesn’t mean its true or not, scientifically everything we currently know could be false or a misunderstanding of reality.
      When you get into some quantum chances, a very less than 1% chance that the effect is true and some people are from an unknown but parallel universe with the only differences being very minimal or unimportant chances, with rest of the percentage going into an infinite amount of factors like everything being a simulation, aliens lifeforms being the reason, all of anything possible to think of being wrong and the other things I mentioned before in my first sentence, etc.. Your guess could be true, it’s just that to current knowledge its just very very unlikely compared to the vastly more likely scenario that something wrong with us humans are the reason it happened, mostly this comes from the fact human beings aren’t perfect (and I mean absolutely perfect) at information preservation naturally, especially compared to photos or videos. If we were, “r/tipofmytongue” wouldn’t exist (its a place where people go to try and ask others if they remember something they can’t exactly recall but have a vague memory of). Our brains catalog only small bits of whole experiences as to not overload your information processors. Do you think a species that can easily forget something that happened to them or saw 2 minutes ago because they drank a specific liquid or breathed in a certain gas (which even without it, is still not gonna give a perfect description) is also truth worthy of noticing and perfectly recalling if some board game drawing a stereotypical rich dude from when they were 5 had a monocle or not?

    One misconception I often hear is in regards to Mario Lemieux's cancer diagnosis. Some people refer to Lemieux's comeback in 2000 as when he beat cancer. The cancer was in 1993 midseason. He missed 24 games then came back to win the scoring title. He retired in 1997 and came out of retirement in 2000.

His last ever goal *was* in that cup clinching game, and it did give the Flames a 2-1 lead, but the final score of that game was 4-2 Calgary, with Doug Gilmour scoring the last 2 goals for Calgary, including the cup winning 3rd goal.

    Several reasons the 1980 USA team resonates and is remembered so fondly is because it turns out to be a sign of positive change. Team USA did the impossible and beat the communist heathens in decided fashion. Ronald Reagan was the new president and he represented positive change as well. You have to remember that the Vietnam war was a sore subject where the USA got chewed up pretty good by the communists supported by the USSR, and the conflicted ended poorly from the USA perspective. The Soviets and the USA had been fierce competitors since WWII ended, and US Airmen and Soviet pilots engaged one another in Korea. There was a healthy dislike between the two groups, and Jimmy Carter was an idiot that mishandled the mess in Iran, which left the average US citizen feeling unhappy and uncertain of the future. Mr. Reagan actually didn't completely defeat communism until later in the 1980's. Defeat, or push the Communist system to self destruction could be an argument, but the Berlin wall came down in 1988, I believe, which was the big sign that the USSR was KAPUT.

    I wouldn't go so far as to say that a gold medal was never on the line for the 1980 game. Winning the game doesn't win you the medal, but losing basically would. It was a round-robin with weird rules, but losing the game was basically a death sentence.

    The first two were only true on a technicality. The USSR game wasn't just for pride, it was also to win gold, for if the US lost to Finland the next game, the USSR would actually have taken home the gold on goal differential. But also, if the US lost to the USSR, then the USSR would also have taken the gold without a chance for the US. Yes, that game didn't directly give the US the gold, but it was a 4 team tournament to win it, if one team went 3-0 they got gold, if two went 2-1, then the winner is the team with the best goal differential. because the US went 3-0, this is still a gold medal game. the second one with Bourque is also a technicality. As the video stated, it wasn't his first season in Colorado that he won it, but it was his first FULL season in Colorado. When talking about players, it is generally uncommon to consider a player traded at the deadline as there is only a quarter of the regular season left. Ray Bourque specifically would only play 14 regular season games after being traded to Colorado at the trade deadline. So, the technicality lies in people omitting full when describing the season he won the cup. Not really mandella effect, but rather just technical errors.

      Just nitpicking but USA finished 2-1-0, since they tied Sweden. But good thing that you know the format of that tournament. Most people think USA-USSR was the semi-final and USA-Finland was the final. But it was like you said, a four team medal round.

    Well technically wouldn't Disney's movie Miracle correct the Mandela Effect since it flat out states at the end they defeated Finland for the gold medal? Also the win against Russia could have influenced the game against Finland anyway? I mean you're facing the team that defeated the #1 team in the world. It would be intimidating for Finland and the win against Russia would be a real confidence booster for the US team. I can only speculate because I wasn't alive then and only know what is portrayed in the movie. Though it is extremely accurate since according to the team Disney really did their research before making it.

    Saying that the 2007 Oilers team was "a really bad team" isn't entirely actuate either. That Patrik Stefan mishap happened in January 2007. Given that the Oilers went to the cup finals in 2006 and missed a playoff spot by only 3 points in 2007, "really bad" is a bit of a stretch. Not that they were "really good" either but it's not like they were a last place team then. I think your Flames fan is showing a little bit in this video 🤣
