Your video production skills are amazing. This was a very informative and well documented process and I even enjoyed the aborted attempt to replace the end links. Lots of people will try to "make do" with the wrong part; You did exactly the right thing and when you found the dimensional discrepancy in components you stopped and backed out the change. That speaks to your judgement, maturity and professionalism as a mechanic.
I think that's one of the reasons I like to watch . You do jobs I do or consider doing and I can get an idea of what's involved. And you are aware of the cost like most of us doing things at home . Some TV shows are all sponsored and just put on or do super expensive projects. And I like that things don't work out and you don't edit because that's how everything goes for me too ,so frustrating. Sometimes I think it just me and get discouraged.
Well that was a timely video. I was going to cheap out on my Forrester and get a seat cover, I didnt know you could buy a kit and reupholster it. That looks like a fantastic solution, mines is ripped in the same position. Thank you Sarah!
Some nice hustle in here. Getting that seat done, saving the mr2 from that wind, getting this video edited up perfectly. Glad it all worked out and you got that very necessary day off without video stress on your mind.
Hi Sarah Kirk here. My friend has an upholstery shop. I work for him years ago very complicated work and you have to have a special machine I didn't know if you knew that hey love the informational videos that you make. Have a blessed day
Hi Sarah, i just found your channel as I'm trying to figure out how to remove the seat upholstery on a different Subaru ( 1999 JDM Forester). I just bought an industrial sewing machine and am planning to practice by repairing the upholstery on the drivers side. I can see from this video the sewing will be the easy part! Thank you for explaining the hog rings etc. That part looks challenging. Thanks from Kirsta in Victoria BC.
I have to admit, I'm jealous. You really are a true gear head. I miss being that. I see you wrenching on your project cars and remember that passion I used to have. I hope you never lose yours.
Good work on the seat. I believe that hog rings are called that because they used to use a bigger version to go through a pig's snout so you could lead it around.
Great job with the seat, new skill unlocked! The next one will be so much easier too. For those little wrinkles that are left, save an iron as a last resort, you can usually massage them out. The hogring is somewhat floating, so there's a usually enough play for you to shift the cover to bar position, just need to get in there kind of hard with both hands and rub one out. Past that, try shifting the plastic clips on the cushion tray a little bit, the wrinkles are just a little bit of uneven tension, so playing around with it some should tighten it up nicely.
WOW!! That new 4K video makes your eyes look so crystal clear, that I can see right through one of your pupils and to the back of your retina :-) Seriously, if you plan to do your own reupholstery work then you probably require an industrial sewing machine with a 1.5-2mm needle (not sure of the exact needle size.) I just sold my mum's industrial BROTHER DB2-B755-3 sewing machine for about AU$300 but you could possibly pick one up cheap enough in the US.
Upholstery is kinda fun, I'll agree. It was hard work, but I took the upholstery off of the seats in my old P71 and washed the stank out of them in a washing machine. If you're too lazy to buy hogrings/plyers, zip ties are quite effective.
Got to admire the work ethic of this lady and her skill and knowledge of all things cars is impressive as is her fearless ability to tackle anything that came along. I would have slapped some duct tape on it and bought a car seat cover to hide it. :)
The picture was remarkably betterwith your new cam. The seat looks great. Wanna do my Mustang, it’s a convertible, so it’ll be way easier to get the seats out.
Just a heads up, whenever you go to remove seats it's always a good idea to disconnect the battery. The last thing you want to do is upset some sort of sensor and set off an airbag. An expensive and potentially dangerous situation. Great job on the upholstery replacement though. My 2015 Forester XT had a small tear in the same place I caught early and fixed with one of the kits.
I am a bit of a package nerd too - to the point where it is hard for me to throw the nicer ones away... 😅 That's what being a graphic designer has done to me...
Back in the day I tried to swap JDM STi seats into my 2004 USDM STi. A straight swap wasn’t happening, so I ended up swapping the JDM seat backs, bottom cushions, and seat covers onto the USDM bases. What a royal pain in the ass that was, but it looked awesome in the end, and the JDM seats were a lot better at holding you in tight.
Besides all of the other things, you're also great at editing! Very very well done, as it can be a time consuming process. Great music match too. I loved the rocket launch part 😂
We have junk yards for seats it’s awesome. I bought two 8 way power leather seats for my sons infinity for 20$ And we got a wheel bearing and two rear calipers, a full set of super clean touring floor mats and a passenger front seat belt reel all for 70$ from a wrecked car.
Over the winter I went through a similar experience with my 90 vette, new custom seat covers and new seat foam, covered myself 1st time, will make some adjustments to them when I put new carpet in later this year.
I'm loving "Moore motorsports " he is doing some excellent spraycan paint jobs . Zx3? Then I can live vicariously through you and not have to get all covered with paint. I want to try it so much .
Saw on your video that you realy love your Forester Gump. Very nice car. Recognized the Nürburgring- Sticker on his rear window. Very difficult race track to drive. like to see you there with the MR2. Always impressed by your skills. You can repair anything on a car. 🦸🏻♀️ 😉
I used to do upholstery. I remember making seat covers for a Subaru Brat. Bet you dont remember those. I also made covers for a jeep including the top and Vynal windows.
did alot of seat covers when i worked for lexus in 2003-2004. need a sewing machine that will cost $2,000 dollars so it will sew leather and fabric. just the seat bottom at lexus cost $1,000 dollars back then. this is the company that tought me alot about interior on cars with all the rattles and tares and smells, o my!!!!!
Interesting Subaru's seat assembly is similar to my Mercedes GLC. I recently had to remove the back bench when my OCD got the better of me to deal with my nephew's car sick. 🤮 Your new camera is great. Out of the box it has a lot better colour balance, richer sound and is in sharper focus. But you can't look any better than you already are 😊
Ayo Chica... Hella difference in audio and video with that new cammy! Your voice sounds so much more crystal clear. Good investment. Keep on rockin' (in the free world...)
Great video, Sarah. I appreciate your detailed instructions and the proper use of the tools to do the seat cover. It's really a bummer that the seat cover didn't last all that long. Subaru should be better than that??? I guess the good news is that an original replacement is still available. Keep up the great work. Love your channel.
Yeah I got to do that to my Subie too Sarah, funny how our bottom ends are all the same😝 Bad punt intended , but it’s funny how all Subarus are pretty much the same underneath in fact I could run the same swaybar I have the same everything underneath except I have the flat 6
Nice job, I've got to do that on my car. A noticeable different in image quality with the new camera much sharper and colours look better sounds good too.
Good job on that seat. Some of us lazy types substitute zip ties for those hog rings. Anyway, now you'll know what to do when the seat heater element fails, which is inevitable if you keep the car long enough.
Damn that new quality of that new camera we really could really see the freckles on the face needed white balancing thought as you hair colour became darker but sharper. Another good video.
Great to see you as always Sarah. Nice job on the seat re-fabricking. I'm glad you took the time to explain about the hog ring pliers, too. I was going to wonder about that if you hadn't. Too bad about the sway bar end links, though. I'm sure you can find another substitute or mod to make it work if you really need to. Love from Michigan!
I just found your video and I love you so much!!! So many questions/comments that I don't expect you to answer but here goes...I'm very handy but don't know if I'd feel confident tackling this by myself but SO APPRECIATE your thorough (and funny) vid. The side of my driver's seat is cracking and tearing so I thought to either buy a quality cover-up seat or use a quality HTV and iron over a whole side panel. I was told by the entire seat would cost almost $1k to replace because of all the wiring etc AND that a cover would NOT work because the seat has airbags and I'd be covering the airbags. Is this true?
New camera looks real good, hope it's an easy learning curve, or at least that you make easy work out of a hard one. Congrats on the new toy! Even uploading in 1080, shooting in 4k will let you zoom way in while performing your editing magic with no quality loss, so you can really capture those fun faces when something awkward happens! Or maybe figure out how much storage the 4k is going to eat up first.
Right tools for the job .. GET the angled hog ring pliers and the stainless steal hog rings .. or your F’d like i was .. had to do mine twice . once . Then the correct way with proper equipment… i did the upper cover also replaced foam
(My favorite for sure) The Seat came out great always want to try to do upholstery work i’m a lot less leery the next time something like that needs to be done I will give it a try thanks to you. The new camera looks really good I could see the problems with the focus but I didn’t think the sound was bad but the sound is much better as well on my end I’m watching via a Apple TV most of the time with built in flat panel speakers those are notoriously not the best but you can definitely hear the sound improvement no question so👍👍 P.S. thanks for saving MR.Dos john from MI.
What a coincidence I'm putting my new Goodyear seat covers on my Sonata and your upholstering also. Good job Forrest Gump looks good. I was hoping you wouldn't get a hog ring through the leather and have a show
Hey Sarah, your channel is my favorite because it’s informational, entertaining and you work on and review different makes and models. I wanted to order new upholstery, Where did you order the upholstery from?
Trust me, don't use an iron. Let is sit in the sun with the windows closed or use a hair dryer on hot and high with concentrated focus in the areas of concern and the material will stretch, configure and relax.
Hey Sarah you should consider recording the videos in 4k and upload in 1080p. Not to get technical but recording in 1080p, then editing it and reencoding it to 1080p you will compress the video twice losing quality. 4k has about 4 times the pixel density so when you edit it and reencode it to 1080p it will look amazing. May be something to think about.
One thing to realize about taking seats in and out of cars. It is okay to leave the battery connected, but whatever you do, DO NOT start the car with any seat equipped with an SRS airbag. Your airbag light will come on and then you have to go to the dealership, or get a code reader and reset the light.
Nice seat! The one in the car looks good too. FYI! If you try to make your own seat covers, don't use the typical "Singers" brand. They have too many nylon gears and you will ruin it. I got a "White" machine. That is short of buying a commercial sewing machine. And be sure to get very string needles.
Nice to see someone actually working on their car, rather than just spending money to have someone else to it.
You're amazing Sarah, you fearlessly attack each job and are 99% successful.... Way to go!!
Ya. Our girl Sarah is always putting in the work. That's why her channel is so great. Duh.
Well that was a timely video. I was going to cheap out on my Forrester and get a seat cover, I didnt know you could buy a kit and reupholster it. That looks like a fantastic solution, mines is ripped in the same position. Thank you Sarah!
I am watching thinking “maybe I could out-source this for my car”. I admire your DIY Can-do. Exactly why I watch.
Have a blessed day
Yes new camera looks good clearer, and sound good.
"Lift with your butt and not with your gut." Sounds like a new T- shirt idea! Great video Sarah, as always!
Sarah, that’s a project , some frustrating moments but victory in the end and knowing you did it yourself! Thank you for the video and inspiration!

Just stumbled upon this channel..GREAT MECHANIC AND ADVISE.. way to go sister.
WHAT'S NOT TO LIKE
Sarah has no fear and certainly doesn't need to fear the 4k. :) Ready to tackle anything, always inspiring to watch. Thanks.
Didn't even break a nail, impressive. You truly are exceptional.
Simp
Patient, dexterous, beautiful Sarah does it again. The difference between cameras is profound. Your future productions will be even better to watch 👍🏻
I have to admit, I'm jealous. You really are a true gear head. I miss being that. I see you wrenching on your project cars and remember that passion I used to have. I hope you never lose yours.
You make changing that seat cover look so easy...I am thinking it was not that easy. Great Video!
I just added foam to my bolsters in my '11 legacy. It fits me now
Good work on the seat. I believe that hog rings are called that because they used to use a bigger version to go through a pig's snout so you could lead it around.
Sound quality is much better, no echo
Nice job Sarah, seat looks perfect. Glad you rubbed on Mr. Gump and made him happy. The new camera looks and sounds good too.
Sarah, I just love your sense of humor. You make me laugh so hard! Nice upholstery job by the way... I hope you have a safe, and FUN trip!
Working on cars is always an adventure!
OMG, some of the things you say, I watch your videos on my lunch break, with my headphones in, and I just laugh out loud......😂🤣
Thank you for inspiring me to work on cars again
I’ve really enjoyed your editing lately. Your hard work is definitely paying off.
Funny Guy I edited this on a plane, it’s by far not by best! But thank you
Honestly, I actually had no idea that a car seat was anywhere near that complicated. Learn something new every video :D
Great job with the seat, new skill unlocked! The next one will be so much easier too.

Sarah Hogg Rings are actually used in the nose Of hogs to keep them from Tearing up the ground
Did a nice job on that seat

Well done and outstanding use of power tools. Great replacement job and NO broken nails!!!!!!!
New camera is killer. The audio sounds really good. Love the Knight Rider music.

Just bought my wife an SC400 to mod. Front seats are trashed...as if the previous owner wore sand paper overalls, but the rest of the cars immaculate.
Amazing difference on new camera. Well done on upholstery
Seat replacement was through Subaru Dealership in case anyone else was wondering.
love the Night Rider music. The new camera looks and sounds amazing.
Great job on Gump, keep bringing in the videos, love watching you
You know what 🤔 you and Chris fix could make a perfect duo
Saw on your video that you realy love your Forester Gump. Very nice car. Recognized the Nürburgring- Sticker on his rear window. Very difficult race track to drive. like to see you there with the MR2.

Stoked about the new camera! Canon makes good stuff congrats and thanks for the commitment to excellence
Hey Hey Hey! A new vid - Sunday Sarah, with my breakfast, in 'Striaya. Sweet as...

I have new respect for auto upholstery shops
Great VLOG

Better image! Better sound! Makes you look years younger
I am a new viewer and think you are great. Love the videos. Definitely one of my new favorites. Sound on the new camera much better.

Yay new camera!! So excited for some 4k content!! The seat looks great Sarah! I think I might try to fix my passenger seat now :)
Nice camera upgrade. Have motivated me to fix my seat issues.
Even if you render in 1080p, working with 4K footage will look better, especially when you do any zoom-in during edit. Looks good!
You've got way way more patience than me. I seriously couldn't have done what you have.
You’re very talented, im always impressed with your ability!!
Great video is always in so informative. This helps me a lot in my industry. And of course, I love the new camera and audio.
When Sarah talks tech specs about sway bars....be still my heart!
Thank You Sarah ... and Butters and Ping and Charlie and Sneks outside and lizards and Sarah2

Thank you for this video. Same issue with my 14xt. Might actually give this a shot now! Much appreciated.
Nice job, Sarah! I wish that you could change the driver side seat cover on my Subaru Tribeca in PA.
Nice job! Your nails make me want Hawaiian shave ice.
Some of the music sounds like Knight Rider’s theme music...cool!
I hope you had a good time on your trip like the new camera
Well done Sarah, and yes.....you can really see the difference btwn. cameras! Looking forward to the next vid with the new camera!
Forgot to *tap* the bell notification! Another great video. Hope you enjoyed your trip.

Waking up and no morning beverage so you are a little weird?
Sarah you are always a little weird, but that’s what we love about you!
😊
Hey Sarah, your channel is my favorite because it’s informational, entertaining and you work on and review different makes and models. I wanted to order new upholstery, Where did you order the upholstery from?
Yes I did laugh at the knob gag , but I found the almost got nut in my hair a fair bit funnier lol

Your multi colored finger nails like pretty cool!
You made that look easy Sarah! 😆👍
One thing to realize about taking seats in and out of cars. It is okay to leave the battery connected, but whatever you do, DO NOT start the car with any seat equipped with an SRS airbag. Your airbag light will come on and then you have to go to the dealership, or get a code reader and reset the light.
New camera is sweet...and time to get some new swaybar endlinks..
Monster amount of work. Amazing
Nice seat! The one in the car looks good too. FYI! If you try to make your own seat covers, don't use the typical "Singers" brand. They have too many nylon gears and you will ruin it. I got a "White" machine. That is short of buying a commercial sewing machine. And be sure to get very string needles.
You are truly amazing you can do it all and it looks great. I used to use a 70D but the new cam yeah for sure hugh improvement.
