Dude, thank you. This game is new and smaller than Smash, so there are less creators out there making high-quality videos explaining its nuanced mechanics and gameplay in depth. You are one of the highest quality content creators for Smash on TH-cam--could not have asked for a greater blessing than you making videos for Rivals 2. I'm excited, you're going to help so many in this community and I cannot wait for more. Subscribed!
4:02 I'm not sure if they changed this but I believe if you don't change your controls the only way to do strong (smash) attacks is via the right stick, you have to turn on *Tap Strong* for it to work as in the video. If this video is meant for beginners I would recommend explaining that as you only go over changing controls quickly at the end.
Dude I have watched pretty much all of your smash guides and they are my absolute fav! I was thinking about getting into this game and seeing you playing it I'm buying it right now!!! Keep up the great content!!
Amazing video. I think this is the only video covering the basic mechanics of RoA2 Short clips showing perfectly the mechanics and even recommending some techs. Good job I will keep an eye for future videos
Thanks a lot, all these tricks at the ledge are super interesting. Notably the ledge grab into wavedash for invincibility until shield, that is very interesting.
I've been seeing your content since smash ult came out i learned a lot from you and also you learned a lot from your link and seeing this new era with rivals 2 is exciting!
While I don’t really care about this game it’s cool to see izaw back at it. U have one of the best tutorial guides out there. Quick to the punch, each section doesn’t overstay it’s welcome, detailed, and nicely edited.
While i knee alot of things cuz of smash getting proper info on ledgehogs and options was very useful! Can't wait to see more guides here as i love the character guides you make for smash
Hey Izaw, long-time fan of your "Art of" series from Smash. Glad to see ROA 2 bringing everyone together from such a diverse series of different games. It's an incredible time for the community and I'm thrilled to see more of your fantastic guides!
Crazy how a single video can get my rank up so much. I've been stuck at one rank score basically since launch and just a few tips and I've climbed almost 200 rank more than where I was in just a couple hours. The ledgehog dash input with shield I didn't know about, the normal ledge attack being invincible until the htiboxes come out I didn't know, and parrying with shield + special I also didn't know.
@@Arabesque01 100% They need more tutorials on the official channel anyway, but maybe they playing the long game and have all that in an in game tutorial down the line
I think before character specific tutorials, it's better to teach beginners what to do in a match. As in the objective of a match, and break that into more basic objectives. Generally speaking what buttons to press on neutral, how to approach your opponent, general tips on how to use platforms, the importance of stage control over offence, what to do on advantage or disadvantage. Options to edge guard You know, little milestones that can lead to securing a stock in a general way regardless of character. Sajam just released a video about how difficult it was to understand what to do in a match, He knew the basic movement and the attacks, but he didn't know when to use them.
Never even heard of you before and wish I did! This is exactly what I have been looking for. Will you ever have a video on controller binds? I want to make sure to build muscle memory that covers everything
@@ArtofRivals great question! Benefits/Cons of: - Having tilt on the right stick - Walk button - short hot button - how to easily to shine dashes - hitbox, keyboard, GameCube controller, Xbox controller - stick sensitivities Just to name a few
I was just thinking about how epic an Art Of series would be for this game, and then I was like, "nah, that would never happen." Then I literally see this. What a wonderful day.
it does smashes on the ground and tilts in the air. Wrastor can do air tilts and air smash attacks so it's useful if you want to use the same player tag to play both wrastor and another character
I am so bad at fighting games. My friend from work gifted me this game for playing together. This looks so complicated even as a Beginner series, I am just mashing buttons and doing cool shit that I like. But God it looks cool as hell to see how people control their characters.
So this vid is a great outline of all the components that you need to learn to be a better play, but i feel it falls a bit short for facilitating actual beginners via implementation of these components. As a noob player but someone who follows multiple competitive platform fighter circuits and knows how game play works, it’s hard to find ways to practice these tools in a way that allows meaningful implementation while playing. you sort of cover this in a sentence at the end of the vid by saying “learning and mastering all of these” but how should we master them in a useful way? against a level 1 bot and increase? but then what specifically should we practice? should we practice by wave dashing in a specific pattern around a map until we can perfectly move from each platform? what about hit falling, is there a good method to practice it with a bot so that it feels normals during actual game play? hopefully this isn’t coming off as rude because i do really like this vid and your previous smash content. it’s just hard to know how to actually practice any of the individual components in a way that’s useful to getting better.
please make a video about how it is optimal to use air Perry to do neutral air because that way you can buffer them out of a jump and not get a JC grab and you can also have a near button so you don't need to make sure your stick is neutral
I believe ledgejumping is when you're on ledge and press jump. Double jumping from ledge means releasing ledge first by flicking away on the control stick, then jumping (and usually holding in). This lets you drop ledge and jump in with an aerial. For doing wavedashes out of these I'm not sure the difference but I'm guessing double jump is faster while ledge jump gives I frames?
Ledge jump Wavedash you just press: Y into directional airdodge in - gives no invincibility Double jump ledge dash you: Let go of ledge, double jump in and wavedash in - gives invincibility
Rivals of Aether is my first time playing any fighting game, unless you count mortal combat when I was 10 lol Subscribed, this was a beautiful guide, I do have one question though, is there a way to make forward tilt a bit easier? I always seem to move the joystick a little too much and dash attack instead, I tried replacing one of my shield buttons to tilt but I can't seem to find "Tilt" anywhere in the control options
He mentioned at the end to set your right joystick to "tilts" which are just called attacks in this game compared to smash. My left trigger is set to short hop for easy out of shield options.
Do I I need to mash to "counter" the pummels while being grabbed, or can I just press the button once? I've heard different things from different sources.
I talk about it briefly in the Shield section, perfect shield is when you initially shield an attack, and your shield won't get damaged that way. Then there's Parry, which is different
@ does it cancel the shield drop frames like powershield canceling in Smash? Also from what I can tell with up B & ustrong OOS, you have to let go of the shield button first and then those 2 options will cancel the (rest of?) shield drop frames
Regular run covers distance faster, but wavedahs is good for when you want to do jab or tilts quickly. It just depends on what kind of attack you want to do after movement I guess
Could you explain how I can tech Chase and jab or down tilt? And ultimate I can just down tilt with c-stick while running or stop moving and jab but in Rivals I always dash attack. Are players wave dashing to jab down tilt?
Wave dashing is easier to do for positioning but a bit more on the startup side. Most are implementing a technique called baby dashes where you input dash and let go really fast (idk how many frames but its very tight). It lets you basically dash very slightly while being actionable for tilts and stuff immediately after. You can still tech chase normally but some characters have different initial dash timings I believe

Very excited for this channel !

the rightmost face button (like b for xbox or x for gamecube) is for strongs too
@@twiilit_ Yeah you're right, I just remembered you could not do strong attacks like done in the video from the get go
you can also have tap strong off, smash attacks not on the stick BUT have a button dedicated to smash attacks

@@cappnplanetcappnplanet3237 shouldn’t be disabling any options. you can still jab and do all tilts, smashes, and aerials.

I'd say it's better you play with an analog stick. Some people would prefer to play this game with digital controls but it's kind of complicated
Definitely stick otherwise you can't do all the angles which will eventually hurt. Best to build the muscle memory from the start.
