The cutscene sucked it look like something out of Gmod animated my mom's car you've seen two times in a mission it's just a terrible cutscene slow mo it's just lame it's not dramatic it's lame I'm sure if the boss pulled the gun out slowly would have made the cutscene way better and the mariachi band playing in the back round that would have totally made the cuts seem more dramatic
Cause Carlos was a real nigga. Tha boss even had his doubts 'bout him during their first meeting and he came thru despite all dat. Boss had high hopes for him and saw him as a friend
Carlos' death actually shocked the hell out of me. SR3 was my entry in the seriesback in the day and we all know from that point forward, all of the characters are basically bulletproof gods and vulnerability is not on their dictionary, lmao. But then I played SR2 and noticed how relatively grounded and dramatic that game was, total polar opposite with the sequels. And thats why I love SR2, more than any of its sequels. It managed to keep the perfect balance between over the top stuff and dramatic stuff.
You know what makes this scene in the reboot crappier crappy mariachi music playing in the background and crappy slow motion I don't think of the background Carlos's death scene I don't think it'd be better if they had crappy mariachi music playing and a slow mo of the boss pulling a gun
@@Sammy_the_best_there_ever_was yea, that reminds me i forgot to mention another thing that makes 2 better than sequels, subtlety and restraints. Very good point there.
I'll be honest, I was laughing my ass off because Carlos was flying everywhich way from the back of the truck, and, like you, I was figuring "ah, he'll be fine, I'll take out the driver, he'll pop back up on his feet, right as rain, and he and the Boss'll just spawn into w cutscene back at the mission house and throw back a couple of 40s." Then the cutscene started, I saw how bad he got fucked up, and I was like, "oh, shit, he _did_ just get dragged across several blocks, but I just spent the last hour willingly throwing myself into traffic, he managed a breakout with a fresh shank wound, and we just survived a helicopter crash, like, a mission ago. He can pull through, right?" Then I remembered how Jyunichi put Gat in the hospital with a stab wound earlier, and before I knew it, the Boss shot Carlos.
Not really the panteros don't have a personality the leader is killed by someone else that's not a good story that's lazy riding like in Saints Row 3 Where Philippe is killed by a giant ball you see him for three missions that's the panteros three missions they actually should have done something more than go to this random Place take my car the story was so under developed the fact it was only 25 missions shocks me

@@Sammy_the_best_there_ever_was Yeah. The story was good, especially with the secret mission Revelations. It's a testament to just how far the Saints and playa had devolved, starting as a noble cause after the failure of the Vice Kings when they became no better than the Los Canales (Sorry Dex lol), to becoming the very thing they sought to destroy. SR1, you were a young kid on the streets (something around 19-20 years old because of one of the snatch activities mentions the boss going to the spa back in high school) that got caught him a gang war and almost killed, so you joined the Saints to make the city a better place. However, as the Saints grow more and more greed and power goes into their head until they become a sociopath. They went from a smart ass introvert who barely spoke, to a sociopathic who will do the most brutal shit to get his way. Funny thing too is that they are also the type of person who will laugh at how the mechanic is called Rim Jobs (Male 3. He is my favorite voice as a hispanic). That's why I will always treasure Saints Row 2
I get why she's sad about the car, but there was something about the delivery that just made me not care about the situation. Plus the slowmo wrench drop and non realistic explosion just made it hilarious😅
"Oh no! how does this car destruction be dramatic!" "I don't fukken know, say a lot of stuff about grandma chemotherapy. That's sure to grab the player. Not, yknow, putting a fellow gang member out of his misery even after he's the only reason you're out and not on death row."
Thing is, Carlos is the entire reason you got to have this adventure, according to him, he purposely puts in himself in the prison’s hospital area because he heard what a legend you were and even better, you’re awake. He had a plan to escape from the get go and decided to bring you along so you could fix Stillwater in the Saints image. The trope of having the first character you meet, who is also the one guiding you through the game before you get your own handle and style of gameplay, is also usually the saddest one to watch go down, because you remember the first mission and thinking how cool this character was and you can’t wait to get into more shit w them, but then the game throws you curveballs every now and then
Not only that, but Carlos was also very green He wasn't as developed as a lieutenant as the other saints, and the boss was really looking forward to make a decent gang banger out of him... then he died
"and decided to bring you along so you could fix Stillwater in the Saints image" That's just not true. He literally says, there's no Saints, and "keep your head down" after you escape the prison. So it's clear it wasn't part of Carlos' plan to have Playa "revive the Saints", sure he wasn't against that either, but just saying, "fixing Stillwater" wasn't part of Carlos' plans, he just wanted to get out of jail, and no one else was willing to try so he hoped Playa would be desperate enough to go with him. I also would argue that due to the small amount of screen time, it's hard to say "what a cool character Carlos was", because he didn't do anything particularly cool on the screen that we saw, he acts like any other character out of cutscene, so how is he cooler in that sense i don't see either.
Hell between Boss's revenge and Gat's revenge I say Saint's Row 2 holds up for being how ever old it is 2 story missions that always made me want to finish both the Brotherhood and the Ronin in the most drawn out brutal way possible
SR2 customization is still better than reboot, especially the clothing system… that game is over 10 years old and they can’t seem to put effort into anything after that. People are rightly pointing out how the silence in that cutscene makes it much more powerful, but let's not forget the absolute terror of "Get up" from Gat. No tone, no shouting, but with the writing leading up to it, it strikes fear into you
An industry-wide problem with modern writing is the automatic assumption that "grounded" character drama is the best fit for any story. A lot of modern takes on older stories ironically feel less captivating than thier predecessors because instead of having the audience learn to care about the characters through thier actions, modern stories instead choose to sit the viewer down and tell them they should care by having characters go on long rants about thier emotions instead of just putting them in situations which will make the viewer care without asking them.
The big problem is that, this only works in a book because you have to actually explain what the character is going through how they feel. Which may get a reader invested, but in a visual storytelling perspective.. it doesn't work because you already have the visuals, why stop everything to talk about how people are feeling? We know what they're feeling, and they need to act it out accordingly.
Things that could have made this scene better/more impactful if Neenahs mom was in part of the game like we see her taking care of her sick mother then later the panteros kidnap her from the hospital and trunk her then push the car off the cliff.
That's the problem the reboot was more focused on crappy story crappy gameplay they didn't actually develop the story in the slightest can you name anything about any of the gang leaders the leader of the panteros is wiped out by one of those newer members of The Saints that's basically like if Saints Row 2 was like Pierce took out marrow for you oh yes this guy who tortured my lieutenant yes thank you random guy who I've seen for two missions

Here's the thing. In SR2, the Boss is trying to help Carlos become a good Lieutenant, and not generally taking The Brotherhood seriously. The missions, in the greater scheme, are small time, some destructive antics at best. But, when Carlos is killed, there's a definitive change in the Brotherhood missions. The Boss becomes more cruel and viscious in the missions, even stepping into the realm of perhaps going too far, and that's what makes it great.
I disagree entirely. The Playa in SR2 is fucking insane, there's just no other words to describe it. When Maero didn't basically fall on his knees and started kissing Playa's ass, Playa immediately gone to war with The Brotherhood, obviously things are heated at that point, but Maero didn't do anything serious against the Saints beside general gang violence. He didn't had any acts against The Playa in particularly, it's The Playa who decides to throw shit at the fan, when he, with Carlos, steals nuclear waste and puts it into tattoo ink which is used on Maero scarring his face. Like tell me with all seriousness, that at that point, you wouldn't be pissed at two guys who did something like that to you. So yeah, The Brotherhood kidnaps Carlos and mutilates him, but it's The Playa who kills him. Let me be clear here, that my point is that The Playa didn't need additional motivation against The Brotherhood, they wanted to take over whole Stilwater and The Brotherhood were in their way. Thus the only thing, you could seriously argue, that the death of Carlos changed, is that The Playa was willing to basically kill Jessica without a second thought, but i argue that there's no reason to think that The Playa wouldn't kill her anyway. So in reality, Carlos' death was on The Playa no matter what way you look at it, and obviously since the other part of the game needed to happen, The Playa didn't learn anything from this death, instead using it as a justification for their brutality.
@@Nick_Vendel I would argue that even if The Playa had opted for a more diplomatic approach by accepting the offer to begin with, The Playa would still call forth Hellfire against The Brotherhood as a Message for the disrespectful Terms. Maero knew The Saints had disbanded after claiming Stilwater, and KNEW The Playa had a Substantial hand in claiming the City. Knowing this, He still had the guts to tell the very being that helped dismantled the 3 Gangs prior that 20% Earnings would go to The Saints and 80% for The Brotherhood and that he should accept it "On their hands and fucking knees." Of Course The Playa declared War and did so on The Brotherhood's own turf with Only Carlos as Backup. Maero didn't even bother with 50/50 knowing enough about The Playa and their exploits and proceeded to reap the benefits through perpetual beef. We know The Playa is known for general violence and other sadistic cruelties against any gang they face. Only limiting the extent of their violence by reactively responding in kind, or when spurred by a funny, psychopathic notion by his Superiors and Later his Subordinates. Even if during an attempt to make Carlos a Wonderful Lieutenant/Protegé by instilling their Doctrines while working on taking out The Brotherhood with a 20/80 agreement towards them, I fully believe Maero would still make the decision to Terminate Carlos regardless. He figured that Carlos was Important to The Playa on a Gang Business related standpoint. Figured Carlos was The Lieutenant leading assaults on his Territories. To him, Without a Lieutenant leading the Assault, The Saints would need time to recoup efforts. Thus allowing for The Brotherhood to reclaim any losses in the meantime and diminish the Influence of The Saints in his territory. Coupled with the notion of payback for his face, That Fragment of Causality in Maero's decision alone would still be enough for the events play out to the conclusion of Carlos' Death. Maero had the Foresight to see the Implications of the Death of a Beloved Saint and possibly knowing said Lieutenant was going to die in the Process. In Turn, just like with Linn, The Playa couldn't save Carlos by the time The Brotherhood got to him. Denying a Fair Trade upon the first encounter, and proceeding to jump the gun by Torturing Carlos which led to him being put on Death's Door. This is what makes Kidnapping Jessica, Hogtying her to where she couldn't escape, and letting Maero kill her Unknowingly by crushing her in a Trunk by his own Truck so potent. It's a Severely Vicious Inverse of what Maero did with Carlos in my opinion. Had Maero made a different Choice, Jessica probably would've died the way that Bartender did (that being with little to no regard), but Maero opted to pursue with force with all the hindsight in the world. If Carlos' Death was on The Playa's Hands, then Jessica's was definitely on Maero's in the end.
@@fearlessrock0000 first of all, and that isn't about your points, i just need to say it, random capitalization makes it very hard to read your message. From what i understand we in many ways agree with each other. I'm not trying to say Maero was a good guy, SR2 shows how bad gang violence can be, and that when two gangs set on controlling the city come to blows you can't really have a good ending. Basically nothing you said really contradicts my point about The Playa being violent psychopath who, even if they cared for Carlos, failed to learn lesson from his death, instead choosing to continue "eye-for-an-eye" cycle, which affects even SR3. And yes, Jessica's death was partially on Maero as well, but i would also argue that knowing you killing someone makes a difference, Maero didn't kill Jessica because "he couldn't see her suffer", he did so unknowingly, meanwhile The Playa kills Carlos as "a mercy", even though Carlos didn't ask for it, even though we can assume he was conscious during the cutscene, so we can only guess what Carlos' perspective on that would be. I'm not saying The Playa literally killed Carlos in cold blood, since intention does matter to me, but still, there's a big difference between the two kills.
@@Nick_Vendel I know about the Random Caps thing, and I do Apologize as it has been a habit for Years. I would like to point out that I never had intention of Contradicting anything, rather Reinforcing Most of Your Beliefs. However, I realize that: 1) I made the Mistake thinking that it was Maero's Decision to kill Carlos, as it was actually Jessica's but Maero had a hand it in. Played it again recently and thought to correct that. 2) I never got to Propose the Question of why you think The Playa learned Nothing from Carlos' Death. The only Instance I can see that being the Case is when The Playa winds up choosing to pursue Killbane thus leading to Shaundi's Death, which wasn't the Canonical Choice that the Writers decided to go with based on SR4's Story. SR3 winds up pitting The Saints against a Syndicate who are, honestly, a lot less Ruthless compared to the likes of the SR2 Gangs as they fight The Saints. To me, Carlos' Death wasn't meant to Instill an Immediate Lesson of Ending the Cycle of Violence since SR2 details the Absolute Extremes that The Playa's Innate Affinity for Carnage can reach. When it comes to an "Eye for an Eye" for Rival Gangs, as I said, The Playa's Involvement ensures the Cycle ends with a Personalized Casket for that Gang, Their Leaders, and just about Anyone Involved who doesn't Stay Out of Sight as all beef becomes Grounded to the last Bone. Even then, if an Immediate Lesson in SR2 was regarding his choice for a Lieutenant against The Brotherhood, the Pettiness of Jessica would've just led to a different Lieutenant Dying anyway since any attempt on Maero's Person will lead to her scorn. I genuinely think that The Playa did care for Carlos, being a Contribution to the Revival of The Saints, and possibly seeing a bit of them in him before the Psychopathy set in with Violence and Betrayals. Otherwise, Jessica's Death wouldn't have been Designed to the most Sadistic Detail. The same could be said for Avenging Aisha with The Ronin, as Johnny's Suffering was Pain in Full with Coincidental Interest as a Bonus. To me, Carlos and Aisha both become Contributions to the change in conduct as time went on, and Johnny's...ahem..."Death" in 3 further solidified this change even more as they Claimed Steelport. Mostly because the same Spite isn't given to 4 of the 5 Leaders. The Playa spares Matt, Kiki dies by Killbain leading to Viola joining the Saints, and Killbane straight up escapes canonically because The Playa saves Shaundi, Viola and Burt. The Playa in SR3 only winds up killing 1 of the Leaders of the 3 Gangs and it was a lot less brutal than what we see in prior games. I'm willing to believe since the Death of Carlos (whose Death was more personal for The Playa), they've ensured to have each others backs so that the Death of Rival Leaders doesn't take the life of another Saint.
@@fearlessrock0000 1) yeah, Jessica wanted to get revenge for Maero, but it doesn't really matter i think. 2) I didn't meant they didn't learn it "in SR3", i meant in general, the lesson here is that due to their violence and hunger for power The Playa lost a person who cared about them and stuff and that its not a good way to live your life, but obviously game has to continue, so instead of learning that lesson, The Playa just uses that death as a way to only reinforce his idea that The Brotherhood must go. "the pettiness of Jessica", i again, disagree with the idea that it was petty, Carlos and The Playa literally put toxic waste on the face of her boyfriend, like at that point all bets are off. But yes, it might be that The Playa felt something for Carlos, etc, it just to me doesn't change anything what happened. Aisha's death was different, because you couldn't really say that The Playa was at serious fault, like Ronin could go after Johnny, but instead chose innocent person. + Aisha's death has a big influence on the story, which is mentioned multiple times both in cutscenes and in gameplay. Pierce is the only one i believe who has a line about Carlos' death, but Carlos' death basically does nothing and is barely mentioned in the second game, only returns in SR3(or 4, now that i think about it, i can't remember exact point that it was referenced, even though i played the games in like last year or so) to haunt The Boss when villain mentions "mercy-killing" which enrages them (showing that yes, The Boss is somewhat conscious about the death of Carlos, but The Boss is way less psychopathic than The Playa, and has more of a "celebrity that doesn't care about their reputation" vibes).

We would have cared about Nina's car if the developers cared enough to clue us in on its importance. Carlos was new to the game game and put all of his trust into the boss only to be met with a horrific fate Shortly after things were getting good.
For people wondering why Carlos's death hit hard - Carlos was the one that got shanked in jail, just to get close to the PLAYA and broke him out of prison. Carlos was the first point of contact in Saint's Row 2. To a certain degree, you could see Carlos being loyal to the Boss and even looked up to him and that's why the Boss respected Carlos. The scene also shows the Boss's weakness where he wants to save his lieutenant/friend but there was nothing he could do (before trying to break the chain as shown in the video, the Boss tries to pick Carlos up but Carlos is in a lot of pain, which really made the scene a whole lot worse). It showed the Boss's vulnerability and really made the character grounded.

Honestly, the new characters would’ve been great if the writers actually WROTE them great. That was such a dumb time to introduce Neenah’s backstory about her car
Yeah, they could of built it up beforehand you know her talking about it beforehand, maybe a couple more missions involving her car etc. Honestly on that point they dropped the ball with Kev making him a wannabe Johnny Gat almost minus the badassery. @@xsammy6644 Honestly, it could’ve worked if the writers actually gave a shit instead of writing half assed people ur supposed to like off the bat. They should’ve DEFINITELY changed the character design for Eli right off the damn bat and tweak Kevin
@@501stCloneTrooper True, the game has issues finding it's ground, I hope some added story DLC would help it a long. Neenah's story would have worked if they added some scene prior like her car gets a ding and she flips out leaving the player wondering what was about, then have them need a car and Neenah panics and tries to convince them to use another car prompting the boss to steal a car. Maybe have Neenah mentioned something like it's her mom's birthday and she needs to get some flowers and the boss goes and get some and gets into a fight with the one of the gangs because they want them too because they can be used to make drugs, then you get to the events where they try to kill the boss but Neenah defects, THEN her car is stole and the event that follows happen, hey for added effect before all that we see her working on the card during idle times and the car is always present and before start the mission we see the both car and Neenah is gone a bit of foreshadowing there, Hmmm? The story I can't say I'm not not enjoying it, but I can see it need direction. I will say this, SR2 kind of struggled with that too, especially with Carlos's death, You can see it coming a mile away when you notice he's isn't present when the Saints are dealing with the other gangs which is a huge clue that he isn't going to make it.
The contrast between the two scenes is a perfect example of how to write a powerful, emotional scene...and how not to. In the new SR, we literally need whats-her-name to tell us why the car is so important, we're never given a reason or shown through actions. We have to be told it, and as a result it doesn't have the same impact - we, the player, have no real reason to feel bad about this whole event because we're never shown just how important that car was to the character. Hell, even the Boss character feels like they're just going "Well...that sucks". But Carlos' death...My god, does it hit home. It shows us how much pain he's in, how desperate the Boss is to try and get him free, and then just how hard it is to make that final decision to end his pain. Only the barest of dialogue. I don't know if other players felt this way, but I know that the first time I saw this scene, I honestly felt like I had fucked up, like I had personally failed. It HURT. This is why SR2077 fails - the writing just doesn't have the same emotional weight that the others did.

I want to think this since at its core Saints Row is such a unique series with a lot of potential left in the right hands.... buuut these decisions are usually more corporate and this game lost them a ton of money so they'll probably want to scrap the series. Just the feeling i'm getting
@@trevordollinger6569 The funny thing is I see a good story in between the mess they made with this last game but its been butchered to hell and had its soul ripped out so no one sees it: think about it, a young boss working for an Ultor-like company wanting to make a name for themself quits their unforgiving corporate job and joins up with their only close friend (Eli who would be more of a Johnny Gat and less of a pussy) and a former gang leader (that guy who the boss arrests in the first mission), they aquire the help of two members of gangs they take down (Kev and Neenah) and slowly creat an ass kicking gang empire, but the former gang leader is pushing them into a murderous rampage like the classic saints and the young boss wants to be more like the fun loving SR3 boss, Eli dies like Carlos after things get dangerous and the boss and the former gang leader have a face off like SR2 boss and Julius, only the morals are reversed this time, it could have alot of that classic Saint feel and still push that "self made" idea they were pushing the whole game
Funny enough, the devs literally went out and said to the fans that they are just haters, and all the fans were asking for is a good Saints Row game, like Saints Row 2. As far as I know, the current remnants of Volition hate the original Saints Row games and the reboot is what they think Saints Row should be... we all know how that turned out to be.
The scene composition and dialogue in the reboot is hilarious. Seeing the tire iron drop onto the low poly dirt, and the camera cuts to two gorilla looking dudes across the cliff saying, “oh no,” like they just broke their moms “I ❤️ NYC” coffee mug with a baseball, and then a looney toons style explosion to top it off. I also love how the girl next to her just says “who?” Like some clueless sack of meat. (Correction, the gorillaesque mfs are actually cheering. Which makes it even funnier, I can imagine while the camera cuts to the girl dealing with the traumatic experience, those dudes are just in the background air thrusting and flipping her off.)
Bro, Saints Row 2 is fourteen years old. Anyone who didn't play the game already got spoiled with Carlos' death. At that point, might as well go all the way in.
Setup, depth, and investment give weight. Weight gives impact. Impact gives an impression. Without these steps, you have an early scene like Neenah's. The story for it I think is actually good and sympathetic; her car was a tragic keepsake, a reminder of who gave her strength and it was something she in turn got strength from. But the player at that point likely doesn't have any sort of investment for her character, so the scene on the screen is just that: a scene in a videogame. But Carlos? Carlos had investment, and setup. Maybe not depth, depending on who you ask, but the care from the player was there to hit them in the gut when he was brutally, horrifically murdered.
Carlos, Aisha, heck even some of the events in SR3 like the death of Viola and (insert name of syndicate boss here) also the story with Angel. All of those seem more weighted than anything in Saints Row 22.
to be fair its not about the car, its about the meaning behind the car. a lot of things dont really have very high monitory value yet people care about them more because of sentimental value and help us remember people and things we cared about. just from what i saw in this scene shes not upset because her "fav car" was destroy but because he moms car was destroyed, she can easily buy a car, but she can never get back her mom's car and reminded her of her, thus lost something of extreme sentimental value and is impossible to replace.
@@scorch2155 I'd care if there was actual character development provided through out the game, but they slapped us with this scene in literally one moment and that's why I literally don't care. How do you expect for the player to care for the characters if you just shove all the plot related points about why they are sad or upset over something in a single moment instead of subtly showing over the time how they are facing obstacles and are slowly degrading until they break down? This is lazy writing. The car is just emotional weight, it's strictly a plot device for this mission and that's it. I literally couldn't give a single fuck about it because it didn't matter. If you want to do sentimental value stuff, you gotta do it right... not like this shit.
SR2 was the pinnacle of the series. It was a silly, fun game but it knew when it had to be serious and it knew how to deliver jaw dropping moments, from the heartwrenching to the straight up awesome. Taking down the disturbing villains in that game is something that never left my mind. All of that was lost with 3 and beyond And I always felt it was a shame.
I just played this part last night and almost forgot the terrible lines and cheap attempt at making you feel for the girls car I forget her name but yea momma got chemo what a cheap shot that's what bad writers do when they cant write up something actually heart wrenching
idk if this is off-topic, but to me Carlos is the Saints Row version of Ben Carmine. Both were really young, showed heart and dedication to what they did & had the saddest deaths in their games. RIP to both of them 😞💯
And let's not forget Aisha. A shout to warn Johnny, a splat of blood, flowers scattering, and Johnny screaming out for her as he realizes her shout wasn't the only thing that got cut short.
I haven't played the new Saints Row, but if the rest of it is like that cutscene it appears to have been completely castrated. That cutscene looked like something you would see in Life is Strange lol
You know what I would've liked in the Reboot? Actually getting to know the characters i'm hanging with. Forming those bonds with them. But when you start the game you're all already friends with eachother. Everything is pre-established. Oh, and when you call them to help you do stuff, they're practically fucking mute.
Saints Row Reboot makes you feel sad for a girl's broken car, but Saints Row 2 makes you feel sad, bitter and angry because you're the direct cause of Carlos' death and at the same time Maero is the direct cause of Jessica, Matt and his own deaths which is ironic
No no I still back to how it was just like how the DEVS wanted it and us the actual fans who don’t like it we really wanted hiphop only 25 missions bad story buggy game and horrible looking game with neon
@@louieplays9229 For game called Saint Rows you would think it would be about Gangs and street life. Criminal underworld all that snaz, but it seems development team doesn't understand that and should just make entire ga me with different name at this point.
Drama: SR2: You're following the truck dragging your friend (who got you out of prison) over the road, gunning it down, trying to save Carlos. You stop the truck, but he's too far gone. He's in extreme agony. All you can do is hold his hand and put him out of his misery, showing your remorse. SR2022: Quick! We have to get to this project car! Oh no my car thrown off a cliff! Waaahhh my chemo grandma you didn't even know about!
You know what's even funnier about the reboot that car scene means nothing this is the only Mission it's brought up it's like if Carlos didn't exist until that one mission I'm sure it'd be just as emotional this guy you never seen before just appearing about the cutscenes in the reboot though they look like Gmod animations
What a cliché and forced reason for her to love that car. It would have been more “relatable” if Neenah was a real character we could learn to appreciate and that her own unique reason for doing things is something the player warms up to over time, instead the writers just make her out to be a placeholder instead of a character by giving her a lowest-common-denominator “backstory” with cheesy editing.
Of course she's going to be sad. It's her mom's car and meant everything to her. It's the only thing she has that keeps her close to her mom that passed away.
would've been better to show the boss's desperate attempts to free him, than the realization that theres not much he can do for him without causing intense agony, this scene always gets me when I go back and play Sr2
SRR: Look at this shocking and dramatic cutscene of a character! we'll really drag it out for the sake of forced implementation of character development at a very VERY inopportune time! If you don't have any emotion at this sequence of events you won't appreciate this game! SR1/2: Here is a more grounded and realistic approach to a gang war. A side character you cared for (Lin/Carlos/Julius/Aisha) is killed in a spectacularly shocking and surprising way that will stick with you whenever you remember this game. And they wonder why we're shitting on the reboot lol
With Carlos Mendoza being the ideal best friend in Saints Row 2, his sad tragic gang related death will make anyone value a best friend. You remember what Don Vito Corleone said in the beginning of The Godfather video game cutscene about holding on to your anger and releasing it when the timing is right this is what he meant. I didn't cry during my first playthrough of Saints Row 2 years ago, instead I gave the rival gang The Brotherhood hell for killing my original customizable protagonist's bestie.
This and the Julius death scene were fucking hard to watch, man. SR2 was such an amazing game, it’s so sad to see Deep Silver burn it all to the ground.
I was secretly hoping the new game would start shitty and cringe but take a dark turn and have all the friends die and do a 180 flip into being the gritty saints row
I think you mean funnier but I have the same idea I literally wrote a script that was 10 times better simply because it gave your character a purpose to be angry when my enemies don't attack me why do I care what they do
It still amazes me how in 2022, 4 years after RDR2 and God of War and 9 years after TLOU and GTA 5, we still have character models that are this awful, there really is no excuse for this
Fucking love this.. I am currently always gathering some great Saints Row 2 gameplay footage and thinking of a video to showcase how awful the Reboot is :)

Then the cutscene started, I saw how bad he got fucked up, and I was like, "oh, shit, he _did_ just get dragged across several blocks, but I just spent the last hour willingly throwing myself into traffic, he managed a breakout with a fresh shank wound, and we just survived a helicopter crash, like, a mission ago.

That's just not true.

The classic case of "Show. Not tell".
Exactly
@Bon cade That's also a big issue.
That's the "theater kidification" of modern writing.
Things that could have made this scene better/more impactful if Neenahs mom was in part of the game like we see her taking care of her sick mother then later the panteros kidnap her from the hospital and trunk her then push the car off the cliff.

Yeah, they could of built it up beforehand you know her talking about it beforehand, maybe a couple more missions involving her car etc.
Honestly on that point they dropped the ball with Kev making him a wannabe Johnny Gat almost minus the badassery.
Eli also feels like such a "akcshually 🤓" sometimes

Hell nah, the only one that had potential was Neenah.

Everyone has the right idea measuring up this game to SR2, maybe it'll give the devs an idea of what we really wanted in a saints row game, then again we've been saying how much we loved SR2's formula for years now and they pretend not to hear it
I want to think this since at its core Saints Row is such a unique series with a lot of potential left in the right hands.... buuut these decisions are usually more corporate and this game lost them a ton of money so they'll probably want to scrap the series.

(Correction, the gorillaesque mfs are actually cheering. Which makes it even funnier, I can imagine while the camera cuts to the girl dealing with the traumatic experience, those dudes are just in the background air thrusting and flipping her off.)

Carlos death is most painful to watch
Instead losing fav car still can replace as long you have money
But if person??? Its impossible!
to be fair its not about the car, its about the meaning behind the car. a lot of things dont really have very high monitory value yet people care about them more because of sentimental value and help us remember people and things we cared about.
just from what i saw in this scene shes not upset because her "fav car" was destroy but because he moms car was destroyed, she can easily buy a car, but she can never get back her mom's car and reminded her of her, thus lost something of extreme sentimental value and is impossible to replace.

All of that was lost with 3 and beyond And I always felt it was a shame.

What you're telling me adding crappy slow mo doesn't make a scene Intense or good it just makes it lame yeah obviously we're crappy music too
So she's being emotionally dramatic over her car being pushed off the cliff? Wtf wrote this pos like it's just a fμ©king car. I get that they tried to do a backstory but holy hell that "No" had little to no emotion to it at all like even Johnny Gat's "No" in Saints 4 during his nightmare simulation with Aisha's death had more emotion and it was the overly dramatic Darth Vader like "Noooooo"
Plus the bad guys on the other side are just watching them like it would've been better if there were more and they were actively shooting at them and the Boss is tryna get her to get up and leave as they're out numbered. Then on the ride back to base or something she could've then explained the significance of the car to her and why she's gonna fμ©k up the people that destroyed the car

Why is she so sad her car will just respawn at rim jobs, oh wait I mean "jim robs"... kill me.
Carlos man, scene still carries a lot of weight.
Of course she's going to be sad. It's her mom's car and meant everything to her. It's the only thing she has that keeps her close to her mom that passed away.
Here's the problem though, nobody was driving it.
