There's a few roads around my area that I wanted to record driving on, and this gave me a few ideas. Also I was wondering with the tripod method if you ever tried using a bungee cord for extra stabilization?
Thanks. Yeah, there's extra levels of vibration absorption that probably could be achieved. It's kinda down to the camera too. I may do another video about this stuff and look into that.
Damn I love your videos - I really am going to come to Ireland one of these days, such a beautiful country and just right for expressive film making..... Until then I will make do with your excellent film making tutorials and aspire to be as good as yourself....
Thank you for the inspiration Hugh, some really helpful info here. Terrifying to see your big cameras on the mounts outside the vehicle though. I guess that's what camera insurance is for !
Excellent video. Fantastic information. I mount a GoPro on the dead center front portion of the hood of my car all the time to record videos. I have been shooting 4K lately 60p. I’m going to try that back seat tripod setup with my full frame camera. Thank you for this.
Thank you for sharing Hugh! I'm just wondering there seems to be quite a few action cam options on the market, how would you recommend? Is DJI better than others(Like gopro and insta360)?
Great results! I’m try to produce exciting driving footage for fun. I do some very respectable cornering speeds but the footage looks slow, even when zoomed to a standard perspective. I’m Using windshield mounted compact camera but don’t think equipment is my problem. Subbed to get some more insights 👍
Hi! Amazing video! I live in Ireland as well and am trying to stream road trips. I did a trip from Mayo to Cliffs of Moher today but I noticed the video is very shaky. I use an iPhone Xs and cant really afford to be spending hundreds. Any tips on equipment thats just for a phone to take away that shakiness?
It would be nice to have some mirrorless camera mounted in the car but that’s not an easy task . On another note, what kind of mount do you use for your iPhone in this video ?
Clever! Although, I don't want to risk any breakage-damages in my car. Ha! The cost of potential accident outweighs the savings with using my tripod and gimbal. 😂 great idea though. 👍
I would be concerned about the police pulling me butt over and I'm a TH-camr beginners and I'm still learning about filming in my car I only have a camcorder nothing else.
yo i had to ask u i am starting to post pov drive video i have made one and the angle is really good with this head mount but the issue is in actual video it looks i am driving really slow is there a setting which can make like 40mph look fast i was driving at 40mph but looks like 10 in video i recorded at 4k 60fps
Great tips! 🚗🎥 Which method do you think works best for capturing smooth footage on bumpy roads? Also, do you have a favorite camera setup for night drives?
I wouldn't use an ND for an action camera that relies on fast shutter to achieve stabilization. Instead use software like RealSmart Motion Blur which blurs by pixel vectors and add it in post. Don't bother using frame blending its crap.
I’m so concerned about the fact you noticed the side of the road but not the side of the driver. Even more that it didn’t make you question the whole thing. You need help?
Excellent tips Hugh, thanks!
Thanks Jason, appreciate it!
You CLEVER MAN! I have a tripod and it did not occur to me to use it in the car! Thanks bro you just saved me dollars!! X
I was just about to comment the same thing, blew my mind. Having a sunroof also gives you more options but I'm not lucky enough to have one.
Me neither lol, I was thinking to buy one of those windscreen holders for the phone again 😂
@@KryptosChain haha same, but they completely suck, fall for no reason (specially for heavier phones) and leave that sticky mark
wonderful video with lots of examples... don't forget magnets for extra holds with the suction solution
Awesome tips. Thank you.
Excellent video- thanks for sharing and your landscape is amazing.
Fantastic video even the vibes of the video were great I usually don't comment but couldn't hold my self.
Great video! Thanks Hugh!!
Thanks a lot Richard, glad you liked it.

@@HuFilms Thanks Hugh

Always nice to see your videos. Can't wait for the next horror video. Greetings from Bavaria!
How do you stop the camera from shaking or vibrating on the hood?
Thank you for the inspiration Hugh, some really helpful info here. Terrifying to see your big cameras on the mounts outside the vehicle though. I guess that's what camera insurance is for !
Thanks man, yeah and thats what action cams are for too I guess. I just need to figure out a way of getting more stable footage.
Nice work
thanks for sharing,very helpful
How did u initially get motivated to put videos, and record alone

Does the heat from the bonnet affect the suction mount? I want to mount the camera to the bonnet for a front facing POV.
Damn, where are all these beautiful locations filmed?
It would be nice to have some mirrorless camera mounted in the car but that’s not an easy task . On another note, what kind of mount do you use for your iPhone in this video ?
I'm using an ifootage product here. It comes with their slider and you can probably get them from their site.
Hey Hugh nice video nice tips!!
The phone holder u use for the iPhone is from the same company?
I also want to know the answer to this.
Thank you for sharing 😊 great video
Very good 👍
great video, thanks
Thanks for watching, appreciate it.
Nice one Hugh, hope the new Mavic 3 is working out well for you.
Excellent advice and video thank you
No problem, thanks a mill!

how to do one where your just recording the backseat?
Every mount i have got makes every video shaky and bumpy. What is one that stays still and is a smooth video
Will a ND filter stop the picture going so dark when filming on my Sony ZXE10 when driving in the sun? I am trying to learn what best settings to use
What are you using to mount the iphone on the windshield? Is that the same thing you used to mount your DJI Action 2?
iFootage mount. Plus a suction cup from their vehicle mount system.
I’ve just bought a GoPro with a window mount for the passenger window. Any tips or advice so not to get in trouble with the police whilst filming?
I think you should be entitled to it. Maybe just keep it discreet. No different to a dash cam really when you think about it.
I would be concerned about the police pulling me butt over and I'm a TH-camr beginners and I'm still learning about filming in my car I only have a camcorder nothing else.

What wide angle do you use?
Great tips! 🚗🎥 Which method do you think works best for capturing smooth footage on bumpy roads? Also, do you have a favorite camera setup for night drives?
And, how are you recording voice audio??
If your video is shaky, you can use the stabilization feature in FCPX to smooth out the footage.
I do already, thanks
What size lens do you use though?
Wide angle usually, 15-35
But remember that every country has restrictions according to high way cords, so new TH-camrs be careful please? I wish you the best
But what was the mount your iPhone was on?!
iFootage accessory
What mount are you using at 5:09 to hold your phone?
Those are iFootage accessories
do you have the link for the tripod?
It's a really old Manfrotto tripod. There are much newer better ones on the market.
@@HuFilms thank you so much for responding to an older video
9th tip is live in Iceland
What is your tripod ?
Where are you from having right hand drive car ?
Ireland!!
👍
How is he filming himself from behind?
Quite easy with multiple cameras! I have 3 GoPros and 1 old cell phone that I sometimes use for differing views!
02:39 --- sponsorship admitted
but why mirroring the footage?
I didn't
remember to angle the turd leg.....hehe
I wouldn't use an ND for an action camera that relies on fast shutter to achieve stabilization. Instead use software like RealSmart Motion Blur which blurs by pixel vectors and add it in post. Don't bother using frame blending its crap.
You're 100% right regarding the stabilisation but losing natural motion blur of the side road whizzing past is a pity.
PLEASE: DISABLE THE AIRBAG when you have the tripod in the front seat like that!
Or buy a $25 dollar cellphone dash/window holder and use the camera on that phone; almost all newer phones shoot in 1080p and 4k now. 🙄
Did you actually watch the video?
Doesn't seem like it
The most dangerous factor he needs to be aware of while he films himself driving, is that he's driving on the wrong side of the Road XD
If I was you, I'd keep out of the UK, Canada, Australia, NZ, Japan, India etc...
Here in UK we drive on the left side of the road . American they drive on the right which is weird and wrong
@@HuFilms i personally am scared to go over seas for that very reason 😂
